The cricketing world bowed down to Ravindra Jadeja for his bravery at Lord's on Monday. He was India's only hope after the top-order crumbled in the stiff chase of 194 against England. The spicy surface, the chirping English player, and wickets tumbling at the other end couldn't distract Jadeja from his ultimate goal – pulling off a victory for the country. But despite showcasing a world-class act, he was left stranded at 61. An injured Shoaib Bashir knocked over Siraj and sealed a 22-run win for England.
Skipper Shubman Gill didn't hold himself back in praising the veteran all-rounder. Addressing the press conference after the heartbreaking defeat, Gill called his senior India's MVP – 'Most Valuable Player'.
'Jadeja is one of India's most valuable players. The experience that he brings in, the skillset that he brings with his batting, bowling and fielding, he is someone very rare and hard to find. The kind of composure he has shown today is tremendous to watch," Gill said on Monday in London.
Jadeja's grit was massively challenged by England's relentless pace trio—Jofra Archer (3/55), Brydon Carse (2/30), and the player of the match, Ben Stokes (3/48). But the ace all-rounder was determined to take the game deeper and finish it gently. But unfortunately, he lacked support from the other end.
In the final session, when India needed less than 30 with just one wicket in hand, Abhimanyu Easwaran was spotted standing at the boundary line, seemingly passing on a message from the dressing room. However, Gill said no information was passed to their most-experienced player.
'He (Jadeja) is very experienced, and didn't want to give him any message. I think he was batting really well with the tail and I just wanted him and the tail-enders to bat as long as possible," Gill said at the post-match presentation.
With this defeat, India now trail 1-2 in the five-match series. There is an eight-day gap before the start of the fourth Test in Manchester from July 23.
