Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard: West Coast Fever re-sign superstar goal shooter on one-year deal
The West Coast Fever are hailing the return of the player they have declared the 'best in the world', with Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard locked in on a new contract. The superstar shooter on Tuesday put pen to paper on a fresh one-year deal, ensuring the Super Netball runners-up will again challenge for the title next season after the heartbreak of their one-goal grand final defeat. It comes after The West Australian last month exclusively revealed that a contract was imminent to have the 36-year-old back in a green dress for ninth campaign in WA in season 2026. Fowler-Nembhard has experienced a year of adversity like no other. The Jamaican was set to sit out the Super Netball season after announcing her pregnancy, but suffered a miscarriage in January. Having missed the first two matches of the season, Fowler-Nembhard opted to return to action and dominated the competition to claim an eighth consecutive league scoring crown and spearhead West Coast's run to the grand final. 'Jhaniele has inspired us all with her strength and resilience this season and has been a driving force behind our team's great success,' Fever coach Dan Ryan said. 'She's our spiritual leader and instils so much confidence in those around her with her passion, presence and positive energy. 'She's had an enormous impact on everyone in our team and we are so grateful to have her on board for another season.' Ryan said he was confident Fowler-Nembhard could soar to even greater heights despite the veteran having already accomplished so much. 'This was one of the best seasons of her career and, like a true champion, she continues to challenge herself to keep getting better,' he said. 'She is the best in the world and there is still so much more great netball and growth left in her.' Fowler-Nembhard poured in 726 goals in 2025 on her way to securing a seventh-straight Stacey Marinkovich Medal as Fever's Most Valuable Player. The sharpshooter said she was thrilled to have finalised the new deal as West Coast seek grand final redemption. 'Perth has truly become my second home, and I'm beyond grateful to wear the green dress again in 2026,' she said. 'I can't wait to get back out there with my Fever Family and chase another championship with our amazing Green Army behind us every step of the way.' The re-signing sees West Coast well-placed with their roster in the early days of the off-season, retaining the core from the squad that reeled off 13 consecutive wins to finish atop the standings. Key pieces Jess Anstiss, Sunday Aryang and Alice Teague-Neeld are all locked in for next year, while the club this week announced the recruitment of Sasha Glasgow from the Melbourne Mavericks. The Fever parted ways with Jamaican goal attack Shanice Beckford.

Charles Bassey wants to play for the Boston Celtics
Former San Antonio Spurs big man Charles Bassey wants to play for the Boston Celtics. But is the interest mutual, or is the lack of a camp invite for the Sin City Celtics center standout more a product of the need for cap management on a Boston roster right up against the edge of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)'s second apron? The Celtics could of course sign Bassey right now with their roster spot vacated by the move that got them under the second apron -- waiving 2025 NBA G League Most Valuable Player JD Davison. But doing so would theoretically put them right back over said second apron, negating the point of having made the move to part ways with Davison in the first place. Could another move to clear salary and open up some cap to bring on Bassey be in the works, or is Boston focused on other things at this point in the 2025 offseason? The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! Lakers jersey history No. 1 — Maurice Carter
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. We now take a look at Maurice Carter, who had a very brief stint with the Lakers during the 2003-04 season. It was a season that started out with tons of promise, but ended up being defined by soul-shattering turbulence. The team had signed future Hall of Famers Gary Payton and Karl Malone during the summer of 2003, only to find out that Kobe Bryant had been charged with sexual assault in Colorado. The 2003-04 campaign would be a peculiar rollercoaster of superficial hot streaks sandwiched by frustrating slumps, key injuries and interpersonal drama. Carter had been a decent player at Louisiana State University, where he spent four seasons. He went undrafted in 1999 and spent the next few years playing in the International Basketball League and the Continental Basketball Association when the Lakers came calling in January 2004. Bryant had just suffered a mysterious finger injury, and the team's bench was thin to begin with. Carter, a 6-foot-5 guard, would sign two 10-day contracts with Los Angeles and play in four games with it. He would finish with a total of 22 points, three rebounds, two assists and six turnovers in 50 minutes. Later that season, he would appear in six games with the New Orleans Hornets. That would be it for his NBA career. He did, however, help the Dakota Wizards win that year's CBA championship and was named the Most Valuable Player of the CBA playoffs.
