Norwegian Cruise Line bets on a surprising US port of call
Norwegian Cruise Line bets on a surprising US port of call originally appeared on TravelHost. As more U.S. travelers decide to stay closer to home for their next vacation, domestic destinations and road trips are emerging as top travel trends in 2025. And for some travelers who live within driving distance of a cruise port, a cruise voyage is a vacation option that offers even more ease than some trips to U.S. cities. Thanks to the foresight of their deployment planning teams, many cruise lines are capitalizing on the road trip trend by offering a wide range of cruise itineraries that depart from convenient U.S. ports around the days, vacationers can also find a variety of cruise options that even stop in sought-after U.S. cities that haven't traditionally been featured on cruise itineraries — like San Francisco, New Orleans, Boston, and Portland, Maine. Several cruise lines, including Princess Cruises, Virgin Voyages, and Celebrity Cruises, have been driving this upsurge in U.S. ports of call. Norwegian Cruise Line, a line that's well known for its Alaska and Hawaii cruises, is big on New England, too, and offers convenient cruise options for travelers in the Northeast with departures from New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia. With its recently released 2027 cruise itineraries, Norwegian Cruise Line is enhancing its offerings for vacationers sailing from those East Coast cities with new itinerary options, including voyages that stop in a historic city not regularly visited as a cruise port of call. As Norwegian Cruise Line boosts its lineup of Bermuda cruises for 2027, travelers will find new itinerary options that offer more time on the island with overnights at the Royal Naval Dockyard, plus a new port of call. In addition to offering those sought-after overnights in port, Norwegian's seven-day Bermuda sailings from Philadelphia from April 8, 2027 through Sept. 2, 2027 include visits to Norfolk, Virginia. Although Norfolk is a cruise home port for Carnival Cruise Line and occasionally welcomes calls from cruise lines like Princess and Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line's season of weekly calls is something the cruise port rarely sees. The 2,400-passenger Norwegian Pearl will call to Norfolk 20 times during the 2027 season. Norfolk's Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center reports that it's one of the biggest port-of-call commitments in the city's history and will bring about 49,000 additional cruise passengers to the region. Norwegian's new commitment to Norfolk comes not long after Carnival Cruise Line increased its presence at the port, upgrading Norfolk from a seasonal departure port to a year-round home port in February. Carnival Sunshine now sails weekly from Norfolk's cruise terminal. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. New Norwegian Cruise Line ship will sail to Bermuda from New York In 2027, three Norwegian cruise ships will sail to Bermuda as part of the cruise line's seven-month season. In addition to offering new cruises to Bermuda and Norfolk from Philadelphia on Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian will deploy its newest ship, Norwegian Luna, to sail new five- to seven-day Bermuda voyages from New York City. Norwegian Luna launches in spring 2026 from Miami. Rounding out the Bermuda cruise season, fan-favorite ship Norwegian Breakaway will return to Boston in 2027 following her debut in 2026 as the largest Norwegian Cruise Line ship to sail from the April 18, 2027, Norwegian Breakaway will sail seven-day Bermuda cruises departing on Sundays and also calling to Halifax (Nova Scotia), Canada, one of the highest-rated ports in Northeast Canada. After the Bermuda cruise season, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Pearl will sail Canada and New England itineraries from Aug. 29, 2027 to Oct. 17, 2027 calling to New England ports such as Eastport and Portland in Maine and Canadian ports including Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Quebec City. Nude Cruise To Set Sail From Florida
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Bare Necessities Tour & Travel has announced a new cruise, which will set sail in February of 2026. And passengers will be able to pack light for this journey, dubbed the "Big Nude Boat." Newsweek has reached out to Bare Necessities via an online contact form for comment. Why It Matters Cruises are an immensely popular endeavor. In 2024, approximately 34.6 million passengers sailed on a Cruise Lines International Association member ocean-going cruise. North America makes up the largest cruise-going market, accounting for 19 out of the 34.6 million, according to Cruise Lines International Association. Norwegian Cruise Line's "Norwegian Pearl " returns to the Port of Miami in Miami, Florida, on January 5, 2022. CHANDAN KHANNA/AFP via Getty Images For 2025, passenger volumes are expected to grow 4.5 percent from 2024, though this increase is slower than last year, when there was a 7.7 percent rise, as per Reuters. What To Know The cruise has chartered the Norwegian Pearl boat for the trip, which will last 11 days, including Valentine's Day. The ship departs PortMiami on February 9 and will include stops in Aruba, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. The ship will return to Miami on February 20. And there are some rules for the nude cruise. Attendees are required to wear clothes in the dining rooms – but not at the poolside buffet. Clothing must be worn when port authorities are on board inspecting the ship, and guests must exercise modesty while they are in port. Individuals are also expected to be clothed during the Captain's reception and introduction. The cruise line employees will not be nude. Room rates begin at $2,000 for an inside cabin, but go up to $33,000 for a three-bedroom villa. The website advertises "theme nights," "workshops," and the "unique entertainment you've come to expect and enjoy on a bear cruise." And while the cruise itself is nude, there is a line of merchandise promoting it, which includes tank tops, T-shirts, and hoodies. These bare cruises have been running for more than 35 years. Part of the answer to the 'Why Cruise Bare?' question on websites FAQ's section reads, "It has been our experience that people who are able to leave their clothing behind in a social setting are more able to be themselves, rather than who they think others would like them to be." What People Are Saying Bare Necessities Tour & Travel, in a post on their website: "The Big Nude Boat has become a beloved tradition, with a high percentage of repeat cruisers each year. Many passengers return to reconnect with friends made on past bare cruises, creating a warm and welcoming community atmosphere. Every Big Nude Boat offers wonderful food, entertainment, and new friendships waiting to be forged. Join us once again aboard the beautiful NCL Pearl in 2026 and create memories to last a lifetime." What's Next According to the outlet, the Tampa Bay Times, there are fewer than 25 percent of cabins left available for the cruise.

Thunderstorms slam I-95 corridor, soaking evening commuters as flood threat spans Appalachians
NEW YORK – Showers and thunderstorms pushed through the Interstate 95 corridor Wednesday, producing heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. The severe weather soaked evening commuters and knocked out power across parts of the regions. The storms were associated with a nearly stationary cold front draped across the region, which allowed for an influx of Gulf moisture to stream northward. According to more than 9,500 customers remained without power as of Thursday morning in New York, concentrated mostly in the mid-Hudson Valley, and some 5,000 customers in Massachusetts were still powerless, mostly in Norfolk County. How To Watch Fox Weather Localized road flooding was seen stranding drivers in low-lying areas in Lawrence, Massachusetts Wednesday night. Police in Scranton, Pennsylvania had to block off flooded intersections as water quickly rose during intense thunderstorms. Rainfall rates of 1-3 inches of rain per hour were possible in the strongest cells. Areas around higher terrain, including the Poconos, the Catskills and the Appalachian Mountains, were especially vulnerable to flash flooding, as runoff can occur more quickly in steep landscapes. During the height of the activity, significant travel delays were reported across the region. While storms snarled travel in New York City, the rain helped put a small dent in what has been one of its driest summers in the past 15 years. New York City only picked up 0.71 inches of rain and is currently about five inches below its average year-to-date precipitation. 3 Dead, 1 Missing As Flooding In Southern Tennessee Prompts Chattanooga To Declare State Of Emergency While the East Coast storms were causing travel headaches, Tennessee was still reeling from deadly flooding that took place on Tuesday evening. The deluge swamped roads, inundated neighborhoods and forced numerous water rescues, including along Interstate 24, which was shut down for an extended period. Jellyfish Swarm Forces Shutdown Of French Nuclear Power Plant Forecasters stress that just 6 inches of moving water can knock an adult off their feet, while a foot of floodwater is enough to stall and even sweep away some vehicles. The combination of the slow-moving frontal system and abundant tropical moisture created an ideal setup for torrential rainfall, a pattern that the FOX Forecast Center expects to linger into Thursday. After the front essentially rains itself out, conditions are expected to turn hotter and drier, with temperatures soaring back into the 90s for much of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic into the article source: Thunderstorms slam I-95 corridor, soaking evening commuters as flood threat spans Appalachians
