IPOH: Two senior citizens were killed while five others werevinjured after a car collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle on Jalan Kampung Kuala Slim, Slim River, about 100 kilometres south of here on Wednesday (May 21) night.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director Sabarozi Nor Ahmad said the two men, both aged 73, who died were the driver and passenger of a Proton Saga car.
He said the driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, a 30-year-old man, along with four foreign passengers, sustained minor injuries.
'We were alerted at 8.19 pm and deployed eight firefighters and one fire engine to the scene.
'The road accident involved a Proton Saga colliding with a Toyota Hilux, resulting in the deaths of the car's driver and passenger. They were pronounced dead at the scene by medics,' he said in a statement today.
He added that the bodies were extricated and handed over to the police for further action.

SANDAKAN: A tense moment unfolded when a mother's two-year-old son was accidentally locked inside a Toyota Hilux at the Petronas Batu 8 petrol station on Wednesday. The incident occurred at around 12:39 pm while the mother was refuelling her vehicle. Realising her child was locked inside, she immediately contacted the Sandakan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for assistance. A rescue team from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sandakan, comprising one officer and eight personnel, rushed to the scene with an operations vehicle and an ambulance. Arriving at 12:51 p.m., the team used specialised tools to unlock the vehicle and within just five minutes, the door was opened and the child was safely rescued without any injuries. IPOH, Aug 10 — A disabled man died after the three-wheeler motorcycle he was riding skidded into a drain and trapped him in Pekan Lambor Kanan, Seri Iskandar, last night. Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Sabarozi Nor Ahmad said the emergency call was received at 8.03 pm regarding the incident involving the 63-year-old man. 'The accident involved a Honda EX-5 three-wheeler motorcycle that skidded into a drain, trapping the disabled male rider beneath it. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by the Health Ministry,' he said in a statement. Firefighters successfully extracted the victim from the drain and handed him over to police for further action. The rescue operation concluded at 9.50 pm. — Bernama

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old year old man was fined RM4,000 or seven months jail by the Magistrate's Court here Friday for threatening to kill his wife. Kamirin Ebit pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence against his 39-year-old wife by saying 'Ku sembelih kau pun boleh bah (I can slaughter you too)', on June 12, this year, at 10pm, in front of a house at Angkasa Apartment, Menggatal. The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both and if the threat involves causing death or grievous hurt, arson, or outraging a woman's modesty, the penalty may extend to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The court heard from the prosecution that on the night of the incident, the complainant was at home when an argument broke out with Kamirin, who is her husband. During the quarrel, he threatened her with the said words, causing her to fear for her safety. She later lodged a police report which led to Kamirin arrest on July 4. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to seven months jail for keeping a stolen car. Baru Junie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to keeping a stolen Proton Saga belonging to one Winona Emmanuel, on May 26, this year, at 12.05am, at the traffic light, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Manggatal – Tuaran. The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that the car was reported stolen from a workshop in Putatan on May 25. In the same court, a 35-year-old man was jailed six months for a similar offence. Walter Jumain admitted to keeping stolen items comprising several identity cards, bank cards, a car key, an Apple Watch, and a laptop belonging to one Jude Ooi on July 24, at 9.30am in a rented room at Putatan town. The court heard from the prosecution that the said items were reported missing from the complainant's house in Penampang on July 24.
