IPOH: Sixteen people, including four children, cheated death in a six-vehicle crash at Km341.5 of the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Bidor tonight. Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a team from Bidor Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location 15 kilometres away after the department received a distress call at 7.26 pm. "The crash involved five cars and a five-ton lorry carrying fish, and there were no victims stuck or with serious injuries, only dizziness and trauma. "The accident is believed to have happened when the lorry could not brake in time and hit the Proton Exora, which then hit the other cars," he said in a statement tonight. Eight men, including an Arab man driving the Proton Exora, along with four women and four children were involved in the crash, he said. The four victims who suffered trauma and dizziness were taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment and operations ended at 8.20 pm. The official PlusTrafik X account meanwhile announced that the vehicles involved in the accident have been moved and both the right and left lanes that were temporarily closed have been reopened to traffic, but traffic was still slow moving. – BERNAMA

IPOH: Sixteen people, including four children, escaped unhurt in an accident involving a lorry transporting fish, and five other vehicles at KM341.5 of the north-south expressway near Bidor. Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a distress call was made at 7.26pm on Tuesday (June 3). He said upon arrival at the scene, it was found that there were no victims trapped or seriously injured, with some only experiencing dizziness and trauma. 'The accident is believed to have occurred when the fish lorry was unable to brake in time and crashed into a car, subsequently hitting the other vehicles. 'In the lorry there were two people, in the first car, there was one driver, an Arab national , followed by three people in the second car. 'There were two other people in the third car, with a family of five, including three children in multi-purpose vehicle, with three people in another car (including one child),' he said in a statement on Tuesday. He said the personnel assisted the victims to the roadside and tried to calm them until the arrival of the police and ambulance. 'Four victims who experienced trauma and dizziness were later taken to the hospital using an ambulance and also an APM (Civil Defence Force) ambulance. 'The operation was then handed over to the police and PLUS (highway operator) for further action,' he added.

GERIK: A head-on collision between two vehicles at Km4 of Jalan Gerik-Kupang this morning left eight people injured. Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the incident occurred at 11.45am and involved a Perodua Alza heading towards Kupang and a Nissan Grand Livina travelling towards Gerik. He said a team of six firefighters was dispatched to the scene, located about 8km from the station, and arrived at 11.56am. "Upon arrival, we found two victims trapped and seriously injured inside the Perodua Alza, while two others from the same vehicle sustained minor injuries. "The driver of the Nissan Grand Livina also suffered serious injuries, while three other passengers sustained minor injuries," he said in a statement. He added that the team conducted a rapid assessment and employed the SAVER concept to carry out the rescue operation. "Hydraulic tools and a stretcher were used to extricate the trapped victims," he said, adding that individuals with minor injuries had already been assisted out of their vehicles by members of the public prior to the firefighters' arrival. All injured victims were transported to Gerik Hospital for further treatment. The operation concluded at 12.37pm.

Two senior citizens killed in Slim River crash

IPOH: Two senior citizens were killed while five others werevinjured after a car collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle on Jalan Kampung Kuala Slim, Slim River, about 100 kilometres south of here on Wednesday (May 21) night. Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director Sabarozi Nor Ahmad said the two men, both aged 73, who died were the driver and passenger of a Proton Saga car. He said the driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, a 30-year-old man, along with four foreign passengers, sustained minor injuries. 'We were alerted at 8.19 pm and deployed eight firefighters and one fire engine to the scene. 'The road accident involved a Proton Saga colliding with a Toyota Hilux, resulting in the deaths of the car's driver and passenger. They were pronounced dead at the scene by medics,' he said in a statement today. He added that the bodies were extricated and handed over to the police for further action.
