Three killed, three injured in crash on Plus Highway near Tapah

IPOH - Three senior citizens were killed and three others injured in a collision involving two vehicles at Kilometre 328.9 of the southbound PLUS Highway near the Tapah-Bidor stretch today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarozi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 11.19 am and deployed seven personnel to the scene.
The deceased were identified as Chong Ong, 77; Teh Kim Kai, 76; and Tan Ah Tak, 70.
"The crash involved a Toyota Vios and a Proton X50. One man in the Vios was injured, while five men were in the X50 - two were injured and three died at the scene,' he said in a statement.
The injured were handed over to medical personnel, while the deceased were confirmed dead at the scene and referred to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, Tapah police chief Supt Johari Yahya said all victims were taken to Tapah Hospital, adding that further details will be shared soon. - BERNAMA

Man high on drugs extends leg under moving lorry
KUALA LUMPUR: A man suspected to be under drug influence intentionally stuck his leg under a moving lorry near Jalan Pekan Bangi Lama in Bangi yesterday. The reckless act was captured on dashcam footage, prompting a police report. Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof stated that the 43-year-old suspect will be arrested once discharged from hospital treatment for drug use. 'The complainant reported that while driving his lorry, the suspect, standing near his motorcycle, suddenly extended his leg toward the rear tyre,' he said. Ipoh driving instructor charged with sexually assaulting teen girl
IPOH, Aug 1 — A driving school instructor was charged in the Sessions Court here today with committing physical sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl last month. Lim Chin Leong, 60, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial when the charge was read before Judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason. He is accused of holding the victim's hands and touching her thighs at a driving school in Kampung Paloh here at around 10am on July 7. The charge, framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), carries a sentence of up to 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Qurratu'aini Khalifah led the prosecution, while Lim was represented by lawyer R. Rajasegaran. Qurratu'aini urged the court to impose bail of no less than RM20,000 and requested an order barring the accused from contacting or disturbing the victim. Rajasegaran appealed for minimum bail, citing that Lim is currently unemployed and financially dependent on his daughter, who earns RM3,000 a month. The judge fixed bail at RM8,000 with one surety and ordered Lim to report to the nearest police station once a month until the case is concluded. She also instructed him not to interfere with any of the witnesses. The case has been set for mention on September 12.
