Thursday Murder Club's Helen Mirren 'offended' crew by going off script with one word
The Thursday Murder Club stars a whole host of unforgettable actors from this side of the world, including the likes of Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. The Thursday Murder Club director shared how Hollywood icon Helen Mirren was able to offend its filming crew with just one word. Richard Osman 's The Thursday Murder Club has made its cinematic debut on Friday, August 22, bringing to life his eagerly anticipated best-selling 2020 novel. A plethora of stars quickly signed up for the film with Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie leading its impressive cast. But during The Thursday Murder Club: An Evening with Richard Osman at The British Library, American director Chris Columbus shared an issue that was experienced on set. He elaborated: "There were a few Netflix executives who said, 'This is too British, we don't know what they are talking about'.' 'One of the things we got by the sensors was Pierce one day ad-libbed a word. 'He called someone a 'Plonker'. I yelled 'cut' and I said 'what is a plonker?' and he explained it to me and I thought 'That is fantastic, that has to stay in the film'. 'I'd heard the phrase 'w*****' before but there were a couple of people on the crew when Helen said it. It was not scripted. 'She said 'most of the police are w******' and people were offended on set. "How could Elizabeth say that word? And I thought, that means it's staying in the film. I embraced that, I really did." Osman's The Thursday Murder Club is the first in a series of books, followed by The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed and The Last Devil To Die. His fifth book, The Impossible Fortune, is also on the way, with its publishing date set for Monday, September 22. As of yet, there has been no official confirmation that the franchise will return for a sequel film based on Osman's work. However, Columbus has previously teased that there are already plans in the works for its return, telling Film Stories: 'If we're lucky enough, and all signs seem to point in that direction that we will be shooting a sequel or the next chapter – in the second movie.' The Thursday Murder Club premieres on Friday, August 22, in cinemas and on Thursday, August 28, on Netflix.

Love Island winner Toni reveals she's leaving Cach in the UK to return to US – as fans predict couple will SPLIT
LOVE Island winner Toni Laites has revealed she's leaving Cach Mercer as she returns to the US. The couple won over the hearts of the nation after they found their way back to each other following a messy split in the villa. 3 3 Toni had her head turned by Harrison but he then dumped her for Casa Amor's Lauren before quitting the show. Toni then rekindled her romance with Cach before going on to win the series and scooping a prize fund of £50k. The pair have been attached at the hip since leaving the villa but Toni has now revealed that she's leaving the UK very soon. She admitted that her Visa has come to an end and she'll be heading home to Los Vegas. A fan asked during a Q&A if she will be staying in the UK, to which Toni replied: "They're not letting me. I'll be in Las Vegas for a week, I don't want to be there at all." She then turned to Cach and affectionately said: "I'm going to miss this." They were joined by co-star Jamie Rhodes, who asked if Cach had been to Vegas yet. Cach replied: "Toni hasn't left my side since coming out of the villa," as the US star echoed: "Cach hasn't left my side since we've left the villa." But fans fear the couple won't last the distance as they prepare to be separated. One wrote: "In six months time we are going to see statements of them separating...," while a second added: "Facts." Watch as Love Island winner Toni takes final swipe at villa ex Harrison after winning £50k SPLASHING OUT Ahead of their show victory, Toni and Cach spoke to former Islanders and Aftersun hosts Indiyah Polack and Amy Hart. When asked what they'd spend the £50k on, Cash replied: 'I've already got what I want, money's just a bonus.' And Toni shared exciting holiday plans, adding: 'I'll take my mum on vacation, as well. After ours, of course…' After weeks of coupling up, dumpings, texts and triangles, the series came to a close with a battle between Toni & Cach, Shakira Khan & Harry Cooksley, Angel Swift & Ty Isherwood and Yasmin Pettet & Jamie Rhodes. However, it was the show's first American bombshell Toni and dancer Cach who got the most votes from fans after their rollercoaster journey on the show. Thrilled fans praised the result, with one saying: "I actually feel like I've won the World Cup. This is actually everything to me!" Just a few weeks ago, Toni split from Cach to rekindle with her old flame Harrison - not knowing he had been intimate with Casa Amor's Lauren. After just one day, he U-turned yet again - and ended up leaving the villa when Lauren was voted out. Despite Cach breaking down in tears over the embarrassment of his public split from Toni, he forgave her. They started up their relationship once again and on their final night in the villa said "I love you". Before his arrival in the villa, Cach appeared on Are You The One? UK, which aired back in 2022 on MTV. He was 20 years old at the time and competed under his full name, Cacharel. 3

Ryan Reynolds showed his true colours with WhatsApp message before meeting new signing
Wrexham new boy Conor Coady has revealed the warm, down-to-earth welcome he received from the club's Hollywood owners, praising their transformative impact on the Welsh side Wrexham's Hollywood owners have shown their kindheartedness after giving a warm welcome to one of their new signings. Former Wolves and Everton defender Conor Coady joined the Welsh side from Leicester for £2million at the start of August. The Red Dragons fought off interest from Scottish giants Rangers to secure the 32-year-old's services. Coady has already established himself as an important figure at the Racecourse Ground, starting in both of their opening Championship fixtures. The England centre-back has now opened up on the friendly greeting he received from club co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac before even meeting them. The two actors initially introduced themselves via phone messages before coming face to face with the new team member as they flew in from the US to watch Wrexham 's first home game of the season against West Brom last Saturday. Speaking during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live, Coady said: "When I signed, he [Ryan] sent me a video and Rob messaged me. It was amazing just to get a message to say, 'Welcome to the club.' I got a WhatsApp from an American number which I thought was a bit strange. "I sat on the couch with my missus watching it and it was a video of Ryan. I was really starstruck and he was just welcoming me to the club and saying how good it is to have me, what we want to do as a club and how we want to go forward." Coady joked that he was taken aback by Reynolds' height when speaking to him in person. He added: "Meeting him for the first time, he's quite a big fella. I said he can play centre half with me, and he said he's never played football in his life. "He's a really lovely man. What he's done for Wrexham, and what Rob has done for Wrexham, I think it's incredible to see where they're at now." Reynolds and Mac, who recently applied to legally change his surname from McElhenney, have transformed Wrexham's fortunes since buying them in February 2021. The club has achieved promotion in each of the last three seasons, most recently in April taking them from the National League into the Championship under manager Phil Parkinson. While the owners insist on leaving football matters to the playing staff, they have received a large amount of praise for their approach to running the club. And Coady believes the A-listers' humility is key to Wrexham's success. "I think what goes under the radar a bit is the trust they've put in people," he said. "They give so much trust to the people at the top end of our club, which I think has been absolutely fantastic over the years. That's a big reason why the club is where they're at today, because they give so much trust in the gaffer. "I saw them do an interview the other day, and they said, 'We don't get involved with the football.' I thought the interview was outstanding. They said, 'We tell a story about the club,' and I love that, because they're getting the story of Wrexham out there. "It's an amazing story so why not tell that story? And what better people to tell the story of Wrexham than Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds?" Wrexham have so far failed to register any points in their first Championship campaign in 43 years. They started the season with a 2-1 defeat away at Southampton, followed by last weekend's 3-2 loss at home to West Brom. Parkinson's side next face crisis club Sheffield Wednesday at the Racecourse on Saturday as they look to establish themselves in the second tier. Another new recruit appears to be on his way to North Wales ahead of the game as they near the signing of Man City youngster Callum Doyle in a deal reportedly worth up to £8m.
