Al-Azhar Grand Imam Heads to Bahrain to Participate in Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, traveled to the Kingdom of Bahrain today, to participate in the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference.
This event, themed "One Nation, One Shared Destiny," will take place on the 19th and 20th of February. The conference, held under the generous patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, is co-organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Bahrain, and the Muslim Council of Elders, and will feature over 400 prominent scholars, leaders, Islamic authorities, and intellectuals from around the globe.
This conference comes in response to an invitation from the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif during the Bahrain Dialogue Forum in November 2022, to enhance Islamic affairs and the unity of Muslims.
During his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Eminence is scheduled to meet with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and a number of Bahraini officials and scholars participating in the conference; aiming to enhance Islamic cooperation and take actual steps to unify the Islamic Ummah and achieve convergence among institutions and scholars from various Islamic schools of thought.
His Eminence is set to deliver a keynote address at the conference's opening, emphasizing the necessity for unity among the Ummah in addressing its contemporary challenges.
The conference endeavors to shift from a discourse of mere convergence to a deeper understanding of shared challenges and commonalities. It aims to establish a permanent framework for scholarly dialogue among Islamic world scholars and authorities.
The focus will be on highlighting extensive areas of agreement among Muslims, strategizing on how to approach these consensuses as a foundation for dialogue among various Islamic sects, enhancing the roles of scholars and religious leaders in mending divisions between different sects, denouncing hate speech, and promoting mutual understanding and respect.

Over 30 countries condemn Netanyahu's ‘Greater Israel' statements
A joint statement on Friday issued by the foreign ministers of 31 Arab and Islamic countries, as well as the secretaries-general of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements regarding his vision for 'Greater Israel.' The ministers' statement also said that 'Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory,' stressing their absolute rejection and condemnation of this settlement plan and all illegal Israeli measures. The statement stressed that this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution #2334, which condemns all Israeli settlement activities aimed at changing the demographic composition, character, and legal status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine. The ministers reaffirmed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, which emphasized the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory and the need to end it immediately, eliminate its effects, and provide compensation for its damages. Condemning genocide They also warned against the danger of Israel's expansionist intentions aimed at annexing Palestinian territories and the Israeli government's continued settler policy in the occupied West Bank. 'We reject and condemn the crimes of Israeli aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing. We call on the international community to pressure Israel to halt its aggression and withdraw from Gaza Strip in preparation for reconstruction,' the statement reads. It emphasized the need for the State of Palestine to assume governance responsibilities in Gaza Strip, as well as the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with Arab and international support under the framework of the political program of the Palestine Liberation Organization – the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people – and the policy of one system, one law, and one legitimate weapon. The ministers called on the international community, particularly the permanent members of the Security Council, particularly the US, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate action to compel Israel to halt its ongoing aggression against Gaza Strip and its dangerous escalation within the occupied West Bank.
