KHGC Chairman Pays Tribute to Pope Francis's Legacy of Peace and Dialogue
Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the 'King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance' (KHGC), expressed his condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. He said that the world has lost a distinguished religious and humanitarian leader who dedicated his life to promoting peace and coexistence and rejecting hatred and extremism. According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed extended condolences to the Vatican, followers of the Catholic Church, and all peace-loving peoples, highlighting that HH Pope Francis's contributions to interfaith dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence will remain alive in global consciousness. He also noted the Pope's efforts in calling for an end to conflict and supporting the poor and afflicted. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, enjoys strong cultural and religious ties with the Vatican. These were reflected in the exchange of high-level visits, most notably the Pope's historic visit to Bahrain in 2022 for the Bahrain Dialogue Forum 'East and West for Human Coexistence,' held under the patronage of His Majesty the King, as well as His Majesty's meeting with HH Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2023. These engagements underscored both sides' commitment to peace and rapprochement between peoples. He emphasised the KHGC's dedication to promoting these shared human values through continued educational and awareness programmes in partnership with international institutions, particularly the Vatican. He underscored that the efforts of the centre align with His Majesty the King's vision of tolerance and cultural diversity as a source of strength and unity. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed concluded by stating that HH Pope Francis's legacy would continue to inspire future generations to follow a path of dialogue, goodwill, and compassion, and that the Kingdom would remain steadfast in its role as a beacon of coexistence and dialogue among civilisations and cultures.

Al-Azhar Grand Imam Heads to Bahrain to Participate in Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference
Mohamed Mandour Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, traveled to the Kingdom of Bahrain today, to participate in the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference. This event, themed "One Nation, One Shared Destiny," will take place on the 19th and 20th of February. The conference, held under the generous patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, is co-organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Bahrain, and the Muslim Council of Elders, and will feature over 400 prominent scholars, leaders, Islamic authorities, and intellectuals from around the globe. This conference comes in response to an invitation from the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif during the Bahrain Dialogue Forum in November 2022, to enhance Islamic affairs and the unity of Muslims. During his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Eminence is scheduled to meet with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and a number of Bahraini officials and scholars participating in the conference; aiming to enhance Islamic cooperation and take actual steps to unify the Islamic Ummah and achieve convergence among institutions and scholars from various Islamic schools of thought. His Eminence is set to deliver a keynote address at the conference's opening, emphasizing the necessity for unity among the Ummah in addressing its contemporary challenges. The conference endeavors to shift from a discourse of mere convergence to a deeper understanding of shared challenges and commonalities. It aims to establish a permanent framework for scholarly dialogue among Islamic world scholars and authorities. The focus will be on highlighting extensive areas of agreement among Muslims, strategizing on how to approach these consensuses as a foundation for dialogue among various Islamic sects, enhancing the roles of scholars and religious leaders in mending divisions between different sects, denouncing hate speech, and promoting mutual understanding and respect.

Bahrain to Host Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference on February 19–20
Mohamed Mandour Under the patronage of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and in partnership with the Muslim Council of Elders, the Kingdom of Bahrain is set to host the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference on February 19–20. The conference will take place in Manama and will bring together His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, along with more than 400 prominent scholars, religious authorities, leaders, thinkers, intellectuals, and stakeholders from across the globe. Organized by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Bahrain, and the Muslim Council of Elders, the event will be held under the theme, 'One Nation, One Shared Destiny.' The conference comes as a response to the call initiated by His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar during the Bahrain Dialogue Forum in November 2022, which emphasized the need to enhance Islamic unity and solidarity. It aims to move beyond rapprochement rhetoric toward a deeper understanding of shared values and challenges, while also laying the foundation for a permanent mechanism for constructive academic dialogue across the Muslim world. The initiative seeks to unify the diverse components of the Muslim nation, highlight the vast areas of agreement among Muslims, and establish a framework for addressing these areas as a starting point for dialogue among Islamic sects. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the role of scholars and religious authorities in bridging sectarian divides, rejecting hate speech, promoting mutual respect and understanding, and fostering Islamic thought renewal to address causes of division and conflict, shared challenges, and to spotlight successful models in this realm.
