Sportscene first aired all the way back on August 9, 1975.
EXACTLY 50 years to that day, the programme aired a special episode to mark its big milestone.
As always, Sportscene was on to show the highlights from the day's Scottish Premiership matches.
Rangers' draw with Dundee, St Mirren's clash with Motherwell and Livingston's win over Falkirk were the three featured games on the big occasion.
But this was no ordinary Sportscene!
As we told you during the week, some legendary figures from the show's past were back for one night only.
Iconic commentators Archie Macpherson, Jock Brown and Rob Maclean were all back to call the matches, with pundit Gordon Smith also making a return.
And in the presenting chair was Dougie Donnelly.
Considered the face of the programme by many, 72-year old Donnelly spent more than 30 years with the BBC having joined the organisation in 1978.
He quickly became the host of Sportscene and anchored coverage - both live and highlights - until 2010.
Rangers boss Russell Martin admits there will be 'a bit of pain' as he reacts to Dundee draw at Ibrox
Donnelly left the BBC after Sportscene's live coverage of the Scottish Cup Final in 2010 - his THIRTIETH Scottish Cup Final in a row.
15 years on, he was back to present the show one more time.
In an amusing opening to the programme, Donnelly posed as a cleaner sweeping the floor, approaching the host of the current era Steven Thompson and saying: "Do you mind if I have a go?"
He could then be seen whipping off his jacket and welcoming viewers to Sportscene at 50.
Donnelly then anchored the hour-long programme and fans were thrilled to see his return.
They were also loving his sign-off on the show as he hailed it as "the best job in the world" and paid tribute to friends no longer with us.
Several punters took to social media to hail Donnelly's return.
One asked: "Can we keep Dougie Donnelly in place?"
A second said: "Dougie Donnelly absolutely seamless. Could slip back into the lineup with ease."
A third added: "Any chance we can get Dougie Donnelly back as permanent Sportscene host?"
A fourth posted: "Dougie Donnelly is a legend."
Another comment read: "Dougie Donnelly was and still is top class!"
While a sixth said: "Tremendous seeing Dougie Donnelly presenting and Jock Brown commentating on Sportscene tonight."
Another fan praised: "Dougie Donnelly is such a class act."
While another comment read: "Reminds us all what a class act Dougie Donnlly is. He really should still be on our screens regularly."
And another posted: "Dougie showed himself to be the consummate professional. He hasn't lost it."

Hibs in 'better' vow ahead of UEFA Conference League clash at Easter Road
David Gray's men hold 2-0 lead from win over Partizan in Belgrade Sign up to our Hibs football newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! Hibs boss David Gray admits his team will need to show a dramatic improvement if they're to avoid a UEFA Conference League shock at home to Partizan on Thursday night. But he has promised that his team 'WILL be better' after recovering from the blow of dropping Scottish Premiership points at home to Kilmarnock on Sunday. Gray's men were hugely impressive in Belgrade last week, staring down the bedlam of nearly 25,000 Serbian fans – nicknamed the Gravediggers – to bury Partizan on their home turf. Two unanswered goals from Martin Boyle, taking his overall total for Hibs to 101 not out, saw the Scots run out comfortable winners on a sweltering night in the Balkans. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Although they maintained a lot of that momentum from the outset against Killie at Easter Road on Sunday, roaring into a 2-0 lead with just over 25 minutes gone, they faded badly in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw. Gray knows that a repeat of that performance will put his team's hopes of reaching the UEFA Conference League play-offs at serious risk. 'I think we need to be better in terms of the concentration, in terms of the quality on the ball,' he admitted, the former club captain adding: 'But it's not something I've labelled the players at all for a long time now. 'We will be better. We know we need to improve from Sunday's performance. But I'll also be very quick to remind them of the first half performance and the quality within that as well. As I've just said, one positive, to be honest, is then you don't go and lose the game. Fans proved mettle amid Midtjylland heartache 'I'm not going to get too carried away. Yes, it's two points dropped, and it really feels that way just now from the position we put ourselves in. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'But, as the Premiership has obviously demonstrated, it's a difficult league. Anyone can beat anyone. So, we need to be at our very best for 90 minutes every week.' Thursday night's contest will be a second big European night of the season for Hibs, who pushed veteran UEFA campaigners Midtjylland all the way to extra time before suffering late, late heartache by dint of a world-class finish in the second leg of their Europa League second qualifying round tie. Easter Road is heading towards a sell-out again for this contest, made suddenly more interesting by Partizan racking up a 7-2 win on domestic business at the weekend. Gray said: 'Thursday is a brilliant one to look forward to. The crowd will be right there again. Full house at Easter Road. 'European nights, under the lights. So, it's a brilliant game to come next, off the back of how we were feeling after Kilmarnock.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad With a 2-0 aggregate lead, Hibs remain favourites to progress to the Conference League play-offs. That would almost certainly see them face Legia Warsaw, 4-1 down from the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie against Cypriot side Larnaca. Assuming both matches go as expected, Hibs will welcome the Poles to Easter Road for the first leg on Thursday week, August 21, before travelling Warsaw for the return match a week later. The winners of that tie will progress to the competition proper – which would be the first time Hibs had qualified for group/league phase football since UEFA did away with straight knock-out format.

Match of the Day stars 'won't make the show all about them' unlike Gary Lineker
Match of The Day's new hosts are promising they won't make the show all about them. Gabby Logan, Kelly Cates and Mark Chapman don't want to be the centre of attention like axed Gary Lineker was. Instead, they want to make it all about the football when they kick things off this week. Gabby, 52, said: 'The focus is only on us because Gary's leaving, and he's such a huge name. We're nowhere near the most important people on the show. The most important thing is the football, then it's the pundits and what they think about it and we're there to bring it all together.' Kelly, 49, added: 'I didn't think there would be as much focus as there has been. I thought, probably very naively, that Gary would take it all as the outgoing person. I didn't realise people would be as interested as they are.' The trio are taking over after Gary, 64, quit the BBC over a controversial post on social media. And the new presenters insist that they won't suffer a similar gaffe as they're cautious about what they put online. Kelly said: 'I don't think I've ever really weighed in that much on anything that isn't either about football or something quite silly. That's not how I've ever used social media.' Gabby added: 'I've been conducting myself on social media while working at the BBC for nearly two decades, so it doesn't change anything. "The broadcaster is probably under the most scrutiny of any in the country because of the way it's funded and because it's accountable to the public. That's how it should be. We strive to have the highest standards. Hopefully, we'll just get on with our jobs.' Speaking earlier this year, Lineker, 64, said he believed the BBC wanted him to leave the programme, which he had anchored since 1999. Asked why he was ending his tenure as host, he replied: "Well, perhaps they want me to leave. There was the sense of that." He announced last November that he would leave the football show at the end of the last Premier League season.

Celtic discover Champions League play-off opponents
Brendan Rodgers' side will take on Kairat Almaty in the final qualifying stage of UEFA's top club competition. A two-legged tie against the Kazakhs stands between the Celtic Park club and a slice of the £40m pie that league phase football in the UCL would provide, as it did last season. Celtic will play at home first, having been drawn out of the hat as the host club for the first leg. That game will be played on Wednesday, August 20, with an 8pm kick-off, as per UEFA's website. The return leg is set to take place six days later on Tuesday, August 26, also with an 8pm kick-off. Celtic are guaranteed league phase football in Europe this season, as if the Scottish Premiership champions fail to advance then they would drop into the Europa League. More to follow.
