NEW DELHI: Commuters passing through or near Hauz Khas in Delhi should brace for heavy traffic on Friday afternoon as the 47th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath will be held in the area between 2pm and 6pm.
Delhi Police has issued a detailed advisory, announcing diversions and movement restrictions on key arterial roads, especially around Aurobindo Marg and the IIT Flyover.
Vehicular movement on Aurobindo Marg—from IIT Flyover to the AIIMS Loop—will remain restricted during the procession hours, with possible congestion on surrounding stretches such as Outer Ring Road, Ring Road and August Kranti Marg.

The religious procession, being organised by Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha, is expected to draw large crowds.

Devotees Gather In Puri To Witness Jagannath Rath Yatra
Puri (Odisha): Today is the second day of the grand Jagannath Rath Yatra. As part of the tradition, the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings are being pulled towards the Gundicha Temple, where the deities will rest for nine days before returning to the Jagannath Temple. Devotees from across India and around the world are arriving in Puri to take part in the Yatra and seek blessings. A devotee from West Africa who came to Puri for the first time said, "This is my very first opportunity to witness the Rath Yatra in Puri. Yesterday, we only got the opportunity to have darshan of Lord Jagannath. But today, hopefully Jagannath will be kind, we will be able to pull his chariot as today is the second day." She added that she was grateful for the opportunity to experience the celebration. Gaurangi Devika Das, a foreign devotee living in India for the past 20 years, expressed her joy, saying, "Yesterday was the first day of the Rath Yatra festival. Lakhs of people are coming. By the mercy of Lord Jagannath, I got to take his darshan. Today, I hope I will have the grace to pull Jagannath to Gundicha. This is a very special festival because Lord Jagannath comes out of the temple to see all his devotees and give his mercy." Parna, a devotee from Kolkata, shared her experience: "I wanted to participate in the Rath Yatra for a long time and witness Lord Jagannath. I did get to see him yesterday, but today was magical. I worshipped him for a good 10 to 15 minutes without any rush, and that makes me really happy." Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who participated in the Yatra, said, "I have had the good fortune of witnessing the Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Jagannath in Puri. Deities embark on boat chariot procession in Chilika
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: In a distinctive departure from traditional Rath Yatra, the holy trinity of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra embarked on a unique water-borne sojourn at Kankan Sikhari, an islet in Chilika lagoon, on Friday. The deities are placed on a specially designed chariot mounted on three interconnected boats. "After the ceremonial Pahandi ritual, we took the deities to the chariot mounted on boats at 1pm. The divine procession circumnavigated the islet while devotees and priests chanted hymns and beat gongs during the journey. At 2.15pm, we brought the deities from the boat to a mandap on the islet," said Susanta Kumar Sahoo, president of the Shree Jagannath Leelakshetra Trust, which manages the temple affairs. He said the most crucial aspect is maintaining balance during the procession. "Skilled boat riders carefully manoeuvred the structure to prevent any accident. In Puri and other places, deities are brought out of the chariots on the next day of Rath Yatra. But we bring them out on the same day and keep them at a mandap in front of the temple for nine days before Bahuda Yatra," said Sahoo. Many influencers and YouTubers from different parts of the state recorded the event with their drone cameras for those who could not attend the festival," he added. According to legends, in 1731, when Mughal Taqi Khan attacked the Jagannath Temple in Puri, idols of the sibling deities were hidden at Kankan Sikhari for 4 months and 16 days. "Earlier, the idols were carried on a simple boat, but visibility was an issue due to lack of eight. In 2022, we innovated by creating a 25-ft-tall chariot mounted on three boats," said Sahoo. The festival, which began to be held in the islet in 2017, draws thousands of devotees. "Out of curiosity, many attend to see how Rath Yatra is organised on boat," said Arabinda Das, a member of the trust. The site has witnessed developments over the years, including the construction of a community hall by the Chilika Development Authority, installation of a solar power system, and an iron shed near the mandap. The islet also houses a wheel from Lord Jagannath's Nandighosh chariot, received from Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Puri, in 2016.
