Cult Caerphilly sci-fi comedy Kangazang! to be reissued

Kangazang! by Caerphilly illustrator and writer Terry Cooper, is being reissued by indie publisher Candy Jar Books to mark its 15th anniversary.
The re-release includes the full trilogy, refreshed and re-edited for a new generation of readers.
Mr Cooper said of his inspiration Douglas Adams: "Douglas saw the universe as 'mind-bogglingly big', but it's the tiniest, weirdest things that cause the biggest chaos.
"That, and growing up in the '80s with space hoppers and Rick Astley, all worked its way into the story."
The series began as a university writing project and follows Jeff Spooner and his barber-turned-alien best friend Ray Scump on a misadventure across the galaxy.
Their journey takes them to the holiday planet Kangazang, encountering cannibalistic Amazons, diva warlords, and malfunctioning androids along the way.
The book's title came from a friend's offhand remark, but its success grew through a key professional connection.
Mr Cooper passed the manuscript to his co-worker Shaun Russell. Mr Russell said: "It wasn't just the humour. It was the heart. The characters. The weird unpredictability.
"I wanted to be part of it."
He suggested creating an audiobook and approached Doctor Who actor Colin Baker to narrate.
Mr Baker was immediately taken with the project. He said: "Firstly, it was science fiction, which, as you know, is something I have, let's say, a fair bit of experience with.
"But it was well-written. And funny, too."
The Kangazang! trilogy is available now from Candy Jar Books.

The Shocking Feud Between These Top Celebrity Podcasters

It was one of the most powerful pairings in podcasting. When Call Her Daddy powerhouse Alex Cooper brought TikTok darling Alix Earle into her newly launched production network Unwell, it was clear she was tapping the next generation of huge media stars to follow in her footsteps. But things didn't last when in March the podcast stopped and neither party said very much afterwards. So, what exactly went wrong? Now, six months after her podcast Hot Mess was cancelled, Earle, who has more seven million followers on TikTok, seems to have confirmed rumours of a feud between them. The 24-year-old left some telling comments on her TikTok channel. She posted a video from a car and said, 'My Co–Star told me that I can start s--- today,' referring to the popular astrology app. 'I mean, is this my time that I've been waiting for to go? I have so much information. We could go.' She went on, 'I wake up every day, and I'm like, "What should I do Co-Star?" And today, it's like, "Revenge. Let's go get 'em."' Things got more pointed when a fan left a comment saying, 'Yes, tell us what happened with Alex Cooper thank you.' She responded, 'How much time do you have?' Earle was one of the first people to be signed up to Unwell in 2023, and in March of this year the podcast stopped. Neither Cooper nor Earle gave a clear reason for why it was cancelled. Cooper responded to rumours of the feud on TikTok at the time, saying, 'Alix not being able to podcast has nothing to do with Unwell. [I don't know] why she can't/what's going on.' She also confirmed that Earle had full intellectual property rights over Hot Mess , meaning Unwell wasn't preventing her from resuming. But Cooper indicated that there was actually more to the story in May, two months after the cancellation, when she shared more about the decision to the Wall Street Journal : 'That was, behind the scenes, a little bit of a hot mess.' Earle has previously said she has 'plans to bring things back', but rather than bring the podcast back as was shared she wanted to focus on her YouTube channel. 'We have plans to bring things back, elevate things,' the 24-year-old explained. 'It might look a little different, but I'm excited to see what we do with it.' First Look: Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker star as female fraudsters in ITV's Heist Drama, Frauds

ITV released today a selection of first-look images for new heist thriller Frauds starring Suranne Jones (Maryland, Vigil) and Jodie Whittaker (Time, Doctor Who) as complex duo Bert and Sam, whose intertwined past resurfaces in the setting of Southern Spain after a decade of separation. As Sam has sought a low-key life, Bert's release from a Spanish prison for compassionate reasons reignites her ambition for one final, significant score. On the pretext of one final, multi-million-pound art heist, Bert attempts to lure Sam out of retirement, but at what cost? Can Sam stay one step ahead of her former friend, who is clearly capable of treachery? Or will the push and pull of their toxic friendship see them both ruined before they are able to pull off the job? If used, must credit: Frauds will air on ITV1 and ITVX later this year. The selection of first look images are now available on ITV Pictures.
