Marina's everlasting magic
Her breakout roles in dramas such as Tanhaiyaan and Dhoop Kinare catapulted her to nationwide fame early in her career. Speaking on a recent episode of Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt, Khan discussed how the dynamics of fame have shifted over the decades.
"Back then, there was an air of mystery around actors. You'd only know what we were up to if you happened to see us in public," she said. "Now, celebrities share every moment of their lives with their fans. It makes them appear more human, I think."
Stardom and secrecy
The actor observed how fans interact with celebrities now. "On Instagram, fans intensely follow the moves of these young stars. They love to know what they ate and where they went. Additionally, they are crazy about seeing you in person too."
She thinks that stardom flourishes both online and in person, "It is kind of merged now. I guess it's because even on Instagram, they are seeing you through a filter. So there is still some hype around in-person interactions."
Khan was also asked, "Where do you think an artist's personal life begins and their work ends?" To which she responded by saying, "A lot of young people today have grown up with the internet. They're already used to sharing their lives on social media, so for them, the personal and professional often overlap quite naturally."
Circling back to whether they should share less or not, Khan said, "The younger generation is not really losing anything by over-sharing on social media. I don't think either one is better than the other. People were crazy about us during the PTV era and people intensely follow the celebrities of this time too. Every time these young celebrities visit malls for promotion, massive crowds show up."
Personally, the actor maintained, "That being said, I think an actor should maintain an air of secrecy around them."
Early fame
Recalling her days of shooting, the actor added, "On PTV, when we booked a quarter, no one was allowed to book the one next to us. That was because no one was supposed to know what we were up to. There was the notion that there should be a desire to see someone. Otherwise, if they constantly appear, they might lose their charm."
Sharing an anecdote from the time Dhoop Kinare was hot on air, the actor recalled an incident when she accompanied Shehnaz Sheikh and a few others to a cricket match in Sharjah.
"All of a sudden all the car windows went pitch black. People had surrounded our car from all four sides. That was when it actually hit me, 'Wow, I'm famous now'."
Khan also reflected on what life was like before Tanhaiyaan aired:
"Most of my co-stars had already done hit TV dramas by that time. The night before the first episode went on air, Behroze Sabzwari came up to me and joked, 'Your life is about to change tomorrow, just get ready for it.' I laughed it off and didn't take him seriously. Little did I know!"
Meanwhile, Butt couldn't help but gush over the influence Marina had on him in his youth:
"All the boys in my school had a huge crush on you. Your short hair was iconic. Please take this as a compliment when I say this; you were the Hania Aamir of your time! You were the face of the youth."
Khan graciously accepted the compliment, responding: "It is a compliment. I have played her mother three times, so it is fair to call her my younger version. Hania is very cute too."
When Butt observed that Khan now seemed somewhat shy in the public eye, the actor clarified:
"No, I didn't become shy. I just woke up one day and realised I didn't enjoy acting as much. When the TV industry got privatised I ended up disagreeing with the way things were happening. I gravitated more towards direction then. That's probably why I moved out of the spotlight and you don't see me as much now."

Justin Timberlake reveals Lyme disease diagnosis following tour struggles
Justin Timberlake has opened up about his recent health struggles, revealing in an emotional Instagram post that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. The announcement came shortly after the conclusion of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which spanned two years and ended in late July. In a heartfelt message shared on July 31, Timberlake reflected on the highs and lows of the tour, describing it as 'the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling experience.' The 44-year-old singer acknowledged that his performances may have appeared lackluster at times, which led some fans to speculate about his energy levels onstage. Timberlake explained that behind the scenes, he had been quietly dealing with serious health issues. 'Among other things, I've been battling some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease — which I don't say so you feel bad for me — but to shed some light on what I've been up against,' he wrote. 'If you've experienced this disease or know someone who has, then you're aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.' Lyme disease, caused by bacteria transmitted through tick bites, can lead to severe fatigue, nerve pain, joint problems, and neurological issues if untreated. Timberlake said he initially considered canceling his tour but ultimately chose to push through because of his passion for performing. His admission followed online criticism from concertgoers who noticed Timberlake holding the microphone out to the crowd and minimizing his usual dance routines. One TikTok user jokingly captioned their video, 'Go girl, give us nothing.' In the same post, Timberlake also addressed his hesitance to speak publicly about his diagnosis. 'I was raised to keep something like this to yourself,' he wrote. 'But I'm trying to be more transparent so that my struggles aren't misinterpreted.' Timberlake's revelation has also raised questions about the future of a rumored *NSYNC 30th anniversary reunion tour, which now appears uncertain.

Lana Del Rey shares rare wedding photo ahead of first anniversary
Lana Del Rey is offering fans a rare glimpse into her private life, sharing a never-before-seen photo from her wedding to Jeremy Dufrene just weeks before their first anniversary. The singer, known for her dreamy visuals and deeply personal lyrics, posted the dimly lit image on Instagram, showing her standing at the altar with Dufrene, holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. The ceremony took place on 26 September 2024 in Des Allemandes, Louisiana, deep in the bayou where Dufrene runs swamp boat tours. The location wasn't just scenic, it held deep personal meaning for the couple, as it was where they first met. A small circle of family and friends witnessed the ceremony, officiated by Churchome pastor Judah Smith, who was also tagged in Del Rey's heartfelt caption: 'May 12 angels guard you while you preach tonight.' While their romance only became public in August 2024 after a Reddit user spotted them together in London, sources confirm their connection goes back years. Dufrene had appeared on Del Rey's Facebook as early as 2019, though no romantic involvement was confirmed at the time. Since marrying, Del Rey and Dufrene have fully embraced their quirky love story. In April, they celebrated with an alligator-themed birthday cake and matching 'bride' and 'groom' boat captain hats. Del Rey's hat even featured a short wedding veil. The cake, shaped like a gator rising from the water, read 'Happy birthday gator! Always standing bayou.' Friends close to Del Rey describe the relationship as whirlwind yet grounded, calling Dufrene a Southern gentleman who treats her with the kind of old-fashioned care she values. As their one-year anniversary approaches, the newly shared photo offers fans a tender look into a love story as unconventional as it is sincere.

'Guess' co-founder defends AI model and insists human models aren't going anywhere
Paul Marciano, co-founder of Guess, has become the face of a raging debate over fashion's future after hiring an AI-generated model for the brand's latest campaign. Despite fierce backlash, he insisted to TMZ that the real-life models will remain centre stage at Guess. The controversy erupted after Vogue published an ad featuring an AI-generated figure, created by marketing agency Seraphinne Vallora under Marciano's direction. Critics blasted the decision, arguing it erodes opportunities for real models and promotes impossible beauty ideals. Despite the heat, Marciano claimed he was drawn to the concept when scrolling through Instagram: 'When one of their AI models had total Guess girl vibes,' he explained, it piqued his interest. Marciano emphasized that the AI experiment is not intended to replace human talent. He reaffirmed Guess's continuing support for real models, noting that the next major campaign will feature entirely human faces. He dismissed critics, stating the decision to introduce AI 'wasn't a reaction to backlash or someone's opinions.' The initiative is backed by high production costs: each AI model reportedly costs low six figures to create and is trained using real reference photos to ensure authenticity and brand alignment. Still, concerns remain over issues like image rights, diversity limitations, and consent. Seraphinne Vallora co-founders even admitted they can't yet generate plus-size models and said models' feedback most often limits AI lifelike representations. Lila Gonzalez and Andreea Petrescu, founders of Seraphinne Vallora, claim the AI tools serve as creative extensions, not replacements, for real human models, offering added flexibility in campaigns. Yet their agency has sparked broader debate about ethics in fashion: Who owns AI-generated likenesses, and how easily can content be removed if a model changes their mind? Marciano likened the AI tool to past innovations Guess embraced, much like its bold switch to colour logos when competitors stuck to monotone branding. He said, 'Guess has always had an eye for what's next. Human models still matter. This was just a creative experiment that caught my eye.'
