The national highways authority of India (NHAI) is planning to consider a proposal from the Noida authority and Gautam Budh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma to construct an alternative road above Yamuna embankment from Delhi's Kalindi Kunj to Pari Chowk, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.
'Right now, we are executing projects worth ₹1.2 lakh crore in Delhi-NCR. We have already completed work worth ₹60,000 crore, and today Mahesh ji shared his suggestions, which we will consider. We have no shortage of funds,' Gadkari said, addressing a crowd at the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' event near the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
GB Nagar MP Sharma had earlier requested the minister to approve the alternative road, stressing that it is crucial for the airport's full utilisation.
He noted that travellers from Delhi could directly access the new road without using the already crowded Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, which handles nearly five lakh vehicles daily — with around two lakh entering from DND and others via Chilla border, Kalindi Kunj, and sectors like 15, 16, 18, and 37.
Noida CEO Lokesh M also briefed the minister on the need for this parallel route, highlighting rising traffic, rapid real estate growth, and the airport's expected opening later this year.
In March, the Noida authority board gave in-principle approval to the project, proposed along the Yamuna riverbanks.

4,557 EV public charging stations installed on highways and expressways: Nitin Gadkari

A total of 4,557 electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations (PCSs) have been installed across a length of 146,342 km on the state, National Highways, and Expressways in the country, the Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh leads with 507 public EV charging stations, followed by Karnataka at 489, Maharashtra at 459, Tamil Nadu at 456 and Rajasthan at 424, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. "As per information available with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a total of 4,557 EV Public Charging Stations (PCSs) have been installed on the state/National Highways/expressways in the country," he said. The minister further stated that there is no scheme for providing incentives to the Charging Point Operators (CPOs). Meanwhile, 4,625 EV charging stations are currently operational in tier 2 cities in the country (as on April 1, 2025). The government recently said that with a financial outlay of Rs 2,000 crore, the PM E-Drive scheme will support the installation of approximately 72,000 EV public charging stations across the country. These stations will be strategically deployed along 50 National Highway corridors, within high-traffic destinations such as metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways, the Ministry of Heavy Industries had said in a statement. The PM E-DRIVE scheme was launched in October 2024 to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) through demand incentives and expand EV charging infrastructure nationwide. The Centre has allocated Rs 10,900 crore for subsidies to EVs under this scheme. The Centre has also allocated Rs 873.50 crore towards the installation of 8,932 Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) by the three oil marketing companies (OMCs), namely IOCL, BPCL and HPCL, under the FAME-II Scheme . Earlier this month, the government launched a groundbreaking scheme to provide financial incentives for electric trucks (e-trucks) under the PM E-DRIVE initiative, with the maximum incentive set at Rs 9.6 lakh per vehicle.

Around 489 road projects face delays over land and clearance issues: Nitin Gadkari

As many as 489 road projects, which were originally scheduled for completion by March 2025, are pending due to delays in land acquisition, forest/wildlife clearances and railway approvals, Parliament was informed on Wednesday (July 30, 2025). Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said the government is making all efforts to resolve the pending issues in close coordination with state governments and other stakeholders to complete these projects. Also read: Parliament Monsoon session Day 8 updates Mr. Gadkari said cost overrun has been incurred in some of the delayed projects due to various factors like enhanced cost of compensation for land and structures, price escalation, Goods & Services Tax (GST) impact, additional VUPs/PUPs on public demand or otherwise, change in General Arrangement Drawing (GAD)/design for Road Over Bridges/Road Under Bridges (ROBs/RUBs) to meet the Railway standards, etc. If projects are inordinately delayed due to some reasons and further progress under the ongoing contract is not envisaged, the contract is terminated/foreclosed and re-awarded, with or without modification in the project configuration, he added. Responding to a separate question, Mr. Gadkari said national highways are constructed in accordance with specifications of Indian Road Congress (IRC). 'The maximum design speed specified for construction of national highways in different terrains is 120 km/h for expressways and 100 km/h for national highways,' he said.

55 instances of collapse, damage on NHAI roads, bridges, tunnels in 5yrs: Gadkari

New Delhi: A total of 55 cases of collapses or damages were reported on roads, bridges, and tunnel projects executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the past five years, union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday. The details did not include damages in projects taken by state and central agencies other than NHAI, Nitin Gadkari said. (Representative photo) Responding to a question by Congress lawmaker Digvijaya Singh from Madhya Pradesh on the determination of accountability for damaged roads, Gadkari told the Rajya Sabha, 'Among them, 40 occurred during the construction phase, and the remaining were in completed projects. While there were multiple instances of action against private companies in almost all cases, only two incidents saw disciplinary action against government staff.' He added that the project director of the PIU (Project Implementation Unit) Palanpur was suspended for poor construction of the six-lane Sanchore–Santalpur section of the 130-km Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor (NH–754K), and the project director at PIU Nagpur was transferred to the regional office for faulty construction of a flyover on NH-6. These numbers do not include the accident in the Silkyara Tunnel in November 2023, which killed 41 people, as that project is being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), a separate entity under the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH). 'The details did not include damages in projects taken by state and central agencies other than NHAI,' Gadkari said. The Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi is a part of the Centre's 900 km Char Dham Yatra All Weather Road, which aims to improve connectivity to the four holy pilgrimage sites.
