Adapting to India's heat will be biggest adjustment ahead of World Cup, says Kiwi all-rounder Halliday
Halliday is part of ten New Zealand women players training here in preparation for the upcoming women's ODI World Cup (September 30 to November 2) in India and Sri Lanka.
'It's really hot over here. It's probably the biggest thing—the biggest adjustment coming from New Zealand is probably that heat and how you deal with that, both from a batting and a bowling point of view.
'If we're in New Zealand right now, it's probably around 10 degrees. And here it's very hot. So, just being here for two weeks, I'm sure the body is going to appreciate that kind of adjustment to the heat. And hopefully, it means that again when we come back in October, that period of adjusting won't be as long,' she said at the CSK HPC ground on Saturday.

'Then, the second part of it would just be the conditions. It's amazing that you guys have so many different kinds of pitches. Just in the last seven days, I think we've kind of batted on four or five different kinds of pitches that do something slightly different.
'It means that when we come to India and play cricket, we have to learn how to adjust and adapt quickly. It's just been quite cool to be able to come here now twice in twelve months,' she added.

Halliday adapted to the conditions sufficiently for her to become the top run-getter in the ODI series last October. The left-hander scored 133 runs at 44.33 across the three matches.
Talking about the differences between playing spin in New Zealand and India, she said: 'The biggest thing is the turn. You probably get a little bit more turn here, and then the second part is the slowness. New Zealand is probably a little bit more skiddier. It means that as a batter, you probably have to pick your shots and figure out what your game plan is, depending on which way it turns.'
The 29-year-old has been specifically focusing on batting against leg spin in training. 'It's trying to figure out how you want to play a certain spin and then take it into your game plan for the World Cup. So, for me, it might be with leg spin - figuring out how I want to exactly play leg spin. And it means that when we come to India, I won't have to adapt as much, and I'll just know exactly how I'm going to play,' she said.

Australia ODIs In Sight, Rohit Sharma Starts Training With Former India Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar
India ODI captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday started training at a suburban Mumbai facility with former national assistant coach Abhishek Nayar amid clamour for a "youth only" policy in the 50-over format following the success of the inexperienced Test squad in England. Rohit had taken a break from the game for a couple of months post the IPL as Indian men's team embarked on a difficult tour of England. He also announced his retirement from Test cricket ahead of the five Test series in England and is now a one format player. He was on a family holiday in England and came back last week. Rohit posted an Instagram story from a gymnasium with his close friend Nayar, who also at times doubles up as his personal coach. Nayar, who has also worked the likes of Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Rinku Singh and young KKR batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, was India's assistant coach batting till Champions Trophy, following which he was sacked. However, all those who have personally worked with Nayar have spoken about the changes he has brought in their games, including Rahul, who worked with him prior to the start of the England Test series where he scored 532 runs. The picture is an indication that Rohit is not in a mood to throw in the towel yet and would like to still believe that he would be good enough to play in the 50 over World Cup in 2027, still 26 months from now. The current national selection committee would want to ensure that a stable core is created for the 50 over set-up and with players who are available for the next two years. A school of thought in the Indian team management is that Rohit should be offered a farewell series and that should be Australia with Shubman Gill being announced as the new 50-over skipper. But how the selection committee and more so BCCI's influential office-bearers look at events is equally important. Rohit is an ODI legend with 32 hundreds, third highest in the all time list after Virat Kohli (51) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). For the record, Rohit was the 'Player of The Match' against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final. PTI KHS BS BS

No Women's World Cup Matches At Chinnaswamy Stadium? Report Makes Big 'Unsafe' Claim
Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium will no longer host any matches of the upcoming 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, according to a report. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has come under the scanner ever since a stampede killed 11 fans and injured scores of others, who had thronged the areas near the stadium to take part in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL title celebration. Last week, the cabinet approved Justice John Michael D'Cunha's Commission verdict, which deemed the iconic venue "unsuitable and unsafe for mass gathering". According to a report by India Today, the state government has refused to give clearance to the venue, citing serious safety concerns flagged by the court hearing last week. "Sources in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) confirmed that fixtures originally planned in the city, including the opening ceremony, will now be shifted to other venues. The decision follows the cabinet's approval of Justice John Michael D'Cunha Commission's findings, which deemed the stadium "fundamentally unsafe" for large-scale events," the report said. The Chinnaswamy Stadium is scheduled to host the opening game and the final of the ICC Women's World Cup later this year, as well as the opening ceremony. The report also revealed that the KSCA has expressed its disappointment over the verdict, highlighting the stadium's record of successfully hosting over 750 matches and nearly 15 IPL seasons without incident. "Even our request to host matches without spectators was turned down," the report quoted a KSCA official as saying. This also comes after the venue was denied permission to host the KSCA Maharaj T20 Trophy. The fourth edition of the tournament was scheduled to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium from August 11 to 28, but the failure to obtain a clearance certificate from the city police forced the association to shift the matches to the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Cricket Stadium in Mysuru.

Bundesliga Set For Longer Games As Germany Embraces More Added Time
Bundesliga games will take longer this season as Germany joins a drive to calculate added time more precisely. Germany's top men's league is the latest to follow a trend set by the 2022 World Cup and the English Premier League by measuring the exact time taken up by events like red cards, penalties and injuries, and adding that amount on at the end of each half. 'We currently have just under 60 minutes of net playing time (with the ball in play), which will probably increase somewhat,' said Knut Kircher, the German refereeing body's managing director of sports and communication, in comments reported Tuesday by German agency dpa. Listen to the latest songs, only on The new Bundesliga season starts Aug. 22 but the changes have already taken effect in the men's second and third tiers. There's been a backlash against some decisions.
