No Women's World Cup Matches At Chinnaswamy Stadium? Report Makes Big 'Unsafe' Claim
According to a report by India Today, the state government has refused to give clearance to the venue, citing serious safety concerns flagged by the court hearing last week.
"Sources in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) confirmed that fixtures originally planned in the city, including the opening ceremony, will now be shifted to other venues. The decision follows the cabinet's approval of Justice John Michael D'Cunha Commission's findings, which deemed the stadium "fundamentally unsafe" for large-scale events," the report said.
The Chinnaswamy Stadium is scheduled to host the opening game and the final of the ICC Women's World Cup later this year, as well as the opening ceremony.
The report also revealed that the KSCA has expressed its disappointment over the verdict, highlighting the stadium's record of successfully hosting over 750 matches and nearly 15 IPL seasons without incident.
"Even our request to host matches without spectators was turned down," the report quoted a KSCA official as saying.
This also comes after the venue was denied permission to host the KSCA Maharaj T20 Trophy.
The fourth edition of the tournament was scheduled to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium from August 11 to 28, but the failure to obtain a clearance certificate from the city police forced the association to shift the matches to the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Cricket Stadium in Mysuru.

Earlier this year, Samson had indirectly criticised the management's desicion of not retaining Buttler, who spent seven seasons at the helm before being released before the mega auction last year. "Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years," Samson had told Star Sports before last IPL season. Samson, who has been part of the franchise for the past 11 years, has urged RR to either release him or let him enter the bidding war ahead of the upcoming auction. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reportedly shown their interest over a possible trade with RR for Samson. While CSK, for weeks, have appeared to be the front runners in the race, the chances of Samson joining the five-time champions are a bit slim now. RR had asked CSK for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson. However, CSK have already rejected his request. "With the letters sent directly to franchise owners, details have largely stayed under wraps. However, it is learnt that a potential trade with the Chennai Super Kings - widely speculated in recent days - could be a long shot, as the Royals are believed to have asked for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad, both deal-breaking terms that the Super Kings are not ready to entertain," the report said.

Gurjapneet was bought for Rs 2.2 crore and if there is a chance that CSK paid more for Brevis, it can turn out to be a problem for the franchise. "That happens because the player knows if he is released next season, he will go for good money. So his concept was that, you pay me good money now else I will go for more next year. And CSK were ready to pay him, hence he came. In the back half, the CSK combination was strong. They will go with Rs 30 crore in IPL 2026 mini auction," Ashwin added.
