'President Trump, even during his first term, offered his mediation, but PM Modi said that we are a mature country, and we will resolve it, and we don't need friends... We attacked Pakistan fiercely such that Pakistan's airfields were damaged, and hence it was desperate for a ceasefire,' he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and tri-services chiefs at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence in New Delhi.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan were also present at the meeting. The meeting comes after days of heightened tension with Pakistan along the western border, following Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7. The operation targeted nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan have worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday and noted that India will continue its firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism.
'India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,' he said in a post on X.
The minister's remarks came after DGMOs of India and Pakistan agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action.
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told the media that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon. (ANI)

Saare Jahan Se Accha review: Sunny Hinduja and Suhail Nayyar steal the show, which peters off towards the end
It's not the fault of this series that it comes exactly a week after the one which had the same theme. Well, almost. Salaakar is about scotching Pakistan's nuclear ambitions with the help of canny footwork by Indian spies : this week's new show on Netflix, Saare Jahaan Se Accha, created by Gaurav Shukla and directed by Sumit Purohit, is exactly about the same thing. The intent may be the same but the treatment, thankfully, is vastly different: the beyond-terrible Salakaar, with Naveen Kasturia leading the charge, reminds you of a comic-book with none of the fun of the genre; this Pratik Gandhi starrer, on the other hand, takes things seriously, and that's a good thing, more or less. Counter-intelligence officer Vishnu Shankar (Gandhi) is tasked with the most important thing of his career by R&AW chief RN Kao (Rajat Kapoor). 'Intel', a word much thrown around in this series (the writing credits are shared between Abhijeet Khuman, Kunal Kushwah, Bhavesh Mandalia, Ishraq Shah, Shivam Shankar, Gaurav Shukla, Meghna Srivastava) suggest that Pakistan President Bhutto is obsessively going after building a n-bomb, and has roped in the fanatic ISI chief Murtaza Malik (Sunny Hinduja) to that end. The building of the time and place is one of the better things about the series, from clothes to cars to rotary phones and their distinctive rings, except all phones working all the time on both sides of the border is a stretch, given how much time they stayed dead: if the creators really are being true to the period, they would have included at least one instrument which refuses to work at a crucial juncture. Vishnu duly arrives in Islamabad, as an Embassy staffer (the classic route of spies, according to pop culture), along with his newly-acquired Bengali wife (Tillotama Shome). And begins, with the help of a trusty colleague (Ninad Kamat), casting his net wide, corralling double agents, newspaper columnists, and sundry others, to get to his objective. The details of the Pokhran blast, in 1974, with the active support of then PM Indira Gandhi, and the relentless pushing of the R&AW chief, are in public domain. What this five -episode series does is to give us the backstory, inspired enough by reality to have the courage to use actual names of both people and places, with lashes of creative license and filmi drama : a love-story between an India 'jasoos' ( pronounced 'jsoos', just the way a Punjabi would) and a pretty Pakistani girl, the sister of an officer ( Kapil Radha, leaving a mark) never feels more like a space-filler. There's mention of the Libyan dictator Gaddafi, Mossad chief Ben Adler, 'HGN reactors', the Gadani port where the deadly cargo would land, indicative of the research that's gone into the show. But while attempts have been made to keep everything as realistic as possible, we hear people saying things like, 'hamaare mulk mein mausam se jaldi PM badal jaate hain' by the lovely Pakistani journalist (Kritika Kamra) , or even 'sadly, yehi hamaari life hai'. Sadly? Really? And 'baby steps in the world of darkness'? These feel dialogue-y, not spoken-in-the-moment lines. Watch Saare Jahan Se Accha trailer here: In this solid ensemble, two actors– Sunny Hinduja and Suhail Nayyar– steal the show so comprehensively that everyone else has to struggle for our attention. Pratik Gandhi doesn't have a showy role; to operate within the shadows means that you have to underplay, and to his credit he does that well enough, whether he is trying to pour water over his troubled domestic life– he is more wedded to his job rather than his wife– or swirling vodka with a stunner. You wish there was more meat to that relationship; certainly Shome's character needed more to do than serve sondesh and act suspicious. Both Hinduja as the fearsome ISI chief Murtaza, and Nayyar, as the street-smart mover and shaker who knows how to keep everyone happy, add sass to the staid, but the bumps and contrivances keep distracting from the main act. The best thing about the handsomely-mounted show is that it steers clear of vicious jingoism while waving the flag. You wish it didn't peter off towards the end. Indian Man Attacked By Group Of Teenagers In Ireland's Dublin, Plans To Return Home
Last Updated: An Indian man in Dublin was assaulted by three teenagers in Fairview Park, suffering a deep cut above his eye that required eight stitches. He now wants to return to India. An Indian man living in Ireland's Dublin has said he will return to India after being attacked by a group of teenagers in Fairview Park over the weekend, The Journal reported. The man, who preferred not to be named, told the publication that the assault happened at nearly 5.30 pm (local time) on August 10, when one attacker on an electric scooter kicked him in the stomach. As he tried to walk away, two others joined in, hitting him repeatedly until he fell to the ground, where they continued kicking and punching him. One of the attackers reportedly struck him above the eye with his own metal water bottle, causing a deep cut and heavy bleeding. He received eight stitches in the hospital. The man also requested an extension from his university to finish his thesis online. Earlier this month, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issued an advisory expressing safety concerns following recent attacks in and around the capital Dublin and urging Indian citizens to take safety precautions. 'There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently," stated the advisory issued online. 'The embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned in Ireland in this regard. At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours," the statement read. On Tuesday, Ireland President Michael D Higgins 'unequivocally" condemned the 'despicable attacks" on members of the Indian community. In a statement, Higgins highlighted the immense contribution of Indians across all spheres of Irish life, saying the attacks were in stark contradiction to the values of Ireland. It came after a spate of violent attacks on Indians in Dublin and other cities, which the Irish police (Garda) said was 'being fully and thoroughly investigated". 'The recent despicable attacks on members of the Indian community stand in stark contradiction to the values that we as a people hold dear," said Higgins. 'That any person in Ireland, particularly any young person, should be drawn into such behaviour through manipulation or provocation is to be unequivocally condemned," he said. 'Whether such provocation stems from ignorance or from malice, it is essential to acknowledge the harm that it is causing. Such acts diminish all of us and obscure the immeasurable benefits the people of India have brought to the life of this country," he added.
