Delhi Master Plan 2041
will be implemented soon and 48 villages in the national capital will get urbanised, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma said on Saturday. The minister also announced that the first registry of properties falling under the Lal Dora category will be completely free of cost. The move is expected to resolve long-pending property disputes and enable people to obtain legal ownership documents without financial burden.
The minister made the remarks during a visit to Daulatpur village in southwest Delhi, said a statement by Verma's office.
"The long-awaited Master Plan 2041 is in its final stages and will be implemented very soon. Our goal is not just to create policies, but to transparently implement them on the ground with accountability," Verma told reporters.

"Master Plan 2041 will change the face of Delhi's villages and provide the rural population with facilities at par with urban areas," he added.
Under the ambitious plan, around 48 villages in Delhi will be urbanised, marking a historic shift in the capital's development strategy, the minister said.

Urbanisation will not only bring infrastructural growth to these areas but also provide access to essential urban amenities such as paved roads, proper drainage systems, reliable water supply, street lighting, schools, and healthcare facilities, he said.

Constructed at Rs 18 crore, the 648-metre-long, 8.5-metre-wide overbridge is intended to link the congested areas of Mahamai Ka Bagh, Pushpa Nagar, and the railway station zone with New Bhopal. Conceived as a relief project, it promised to eliminate long wait times at railway crossings and spare residents a circuitous detour that many have endured for over a decade. Government estimates suggested that the bridge would benefit around three lakh commuters daily. The bridge, whose construction began in March 2023, has also faced delays. Initially set for completion in 18 months, it is only now approaching readiness after more than 36 months, delayed by factors such as the shifting of electrical lines and coordination issues between the Public Works Department and the Railways. Public Works Department (Bridge Department) Chief Engineer V D Verma told PTI, 'Due to the Metro station, there is limited availability of land at the point. Due to the lack of land, there was no other option. The purpose of the RoB is to connect the two colonies.' Federal judge blocks Trump administration from continuing to detain Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that Mahmoud Khalil, a legal US resident and former graduate student at Columbia University, must be released from immigration detention. Khalil was detained in March following his participation in campus pro-Palestinian demonstrations against Israel's military action in Gaza. Judge Michael Farbiarz said that Khalil's continued detention is causing him 'irreparable harm,' citing damage to his career, personal life and free speech rights. 'The Court finds as a matter of fact that the Petitioner's career and reputation are being damaged and his speech is being chilled — and this adds up to irreparable harm,' the judge wrote in his ruling. Despite the decision, Khalil will remain in custody until at least 9:30 am Friday, allowing the US government time to file an appeal. He has also been asked to post a $1 bond before being released. Arrest and detention Khalil was arrested on March 8 in the lobby of his university-owned residence. He was the first person to be detained under a Trump administration crackdown targeting international students involved in Gaza protests.
