3 OFW cancer survivors in Qatar receive aid through DMW AKSYON Fund
The support aims to ease the burden of their ongoing medical treatments and daily living costs, according to the agency.
Leonora Guron Cunado, Janine Taniza Cabebe, and Rubina Labonete Dingson were among the beneficiaries of the government aid. All three are working abroad and are currently in recovery from cancer.
They were part of the 28 Filipino beneficiaries in Qatar who received a portion of the ₱1.6 million fund released by the DMW, which also covered individuals facing legal issues and those temporarily housed at the Bahay Kalinga shelter.
The aid was personally handed over by Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul Jr., Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi, and Labor Attaché Eduard Ferrer.
The AKSYON Fund, or Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan, offers various forms of government support, such as financial and medical aid, legal assistance, emergency relief, and repatriation services.

OFWs, families to benefit from expanded services at OFW Hospital
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced improved health services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families through the continued upgrade of the OFW Hospital in Pampanga. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Acting Medical Chief Dr. Patrick Louie Maglaya on July 31 presented the hospital's new facilities and medical equipment designed to meet the unique needs of OFWs and their dependents. Cacdac emphasized that all services remain free for OFW-patients, affirming the government's commitment to providing accessible and specialized health care under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration. The OFW Hospital, the only one of its kind in the country, now offers upgraded radiology services, including a new MRI machine and digital mammography. It also added laboratory tests such as hemoglobin (HBA1), drug testing, and aqua electrolyte analysis. Additional upgrades include a complete pulmonary function test, cardio exercise test, treadmill stress test, and holter monitoring for heart assessments. The hospital is currently seeking Level 2 accreditation from the Department of Health, which will allow full use of its ICU and expanded services. Also in progress is the construction of the OFWH Cancer Care Center, expected to be completed within President Marcos' term. Once operational, it will offer cancer care and hemodialysis services for OFWs and qualified dependents. As of June 2025, the OFW Hospital has already provided services to over 50,000 OFWs and their families.

DMW speeds up medical repatriation of ailing OFWs in Qatar
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has pledged full support for ailing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Qatar and is expediting their medical repatriation. In a statement, the DMW said officials led by Undersecretary Jainal Rasul, Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi and Labor Attaché Eduard Ferrer visited four ailing OFWs confined at Rumailah Hospital in Doha. One of them, a female patient who suffered a severe stroke, has been hospitalized since May. Her sibling has already been repatriated, while arrangements for her own return are ongoing. The officials also met with hospital personnel and Alma Balanon, the Medical Repatriation Coordinator for Filipinos in Qatar, to discuss necessary arrangements for transferring the patients to the Philippines. Balanon emphasized the need for support in visa processing and hospital acceptance in the Philippines to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of medical care. She added that several more patients are under evaluation for possible repatriation The DMW said the medical repatriation program in Qatar, which began in 2015, has facilitated the return of 28 OFWs in 2024. Eleven cases have been recorded this year, including one currently being processed. A follow-up mission is scheduled for mid-August to monitor the reintegration of repatriated OFWs and ensure continued government assistance.
