Attempted murderer attacked fellow inmate with pool ball in sock
A convicted attempted murderer has had 18 months added to his sentence for attacking a fellow inmate.
Sean Gorman, 24, struck the man with a pool ball inside a sock in HMP Low Moss on July 13 last year.
The pair had earlier become involved in a dispute, which turned violent outside of the victim's cell.
He was hit on the head, which caused him to be taken to hospital and treated with glue.
Gorman is currently serving a string of consecutive sentences, with his date of release set to be 2038.
He was locked up in 2018 for attempting to murder a Syrian refugee.
Gorman, then 18, stabbed the man six times in the 'frenzied' attack in an Edinburgh hostel on May 3, 2018, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Gorman pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to his latest offence of assault to the severe injury of the prisoner.
Sheriff John McCormick ordered that the 18 months for this matter be added to the nine other consecutive sentences he is presently serving.
The court earlier heard that Gorman went to the man's cell and grappled with him.
Prosecutor Josh Dowie said: 'Gorman held a black sock with a pool ball within.
'He swung it and struck [the victim] to the back of his head.'
The man was noted to walk away while holding his head, while Gorman was seen to put an item in the pool table pocket.
The prison wing was locked down, and the victim was traced due to blood spots outside of his cell.
CCTV was later used to identify Gorman as responsible for the attack.
The inmate was taken to hospital for treatment to a head wound, which was closed with glue.
Paul Sutherland, defending, told the court: 'There was a disagreement which escalated and there was no reasonable position put forward in respect of that.
'He recognises due to the serious nature of this case that custody is the only way in which this matter can be dealt.'

A man who supplied the fireworks which were thrown at police during Bonfire Night disorder in Edinburgh has been convicted. Jordan McMillan was found guilty of culpable and reckless conduct at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday after providing fireworks to individuals who then threw the items and other projectiles at police officers and members of the public on Niddrie Mains Road. An aggravator for attacking emergency service workers was also included in the charges under Section 44 of the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022. The 24-year-old was arrested as part of a major criminal investigation into the incidents that unfolded between Halloween and Bonfire Night. He will be sentenced on July 14. Chief superintendent David Robertson said: 'This conviction should send a very clear message that the reckless and dangerous behaviour we witnessed across Edinburgh last year will not be tolerated. 'Police officers and other emergency service workers do not come to work to be attacked, and the level of violence directed towards them during Halloween and Bonfire Night was wholly unacceptable. 'Jordan McMillan did not act in isolation and is only one of several individuals responsible for the offences we saw on Niddrie Mains Road during the evening of November 5, 2024. 'Further positive court outcomes for those involved in disorder during 2024 are anticipated and we are currently working with key partners ahead of Bonfire Night 2025 to protect our communities from this reckless and dangerous behaviour, which simply has to stop.' Investigators congratulate themselves as Madeleine McCann searches end
German and Portuguese investigators congratulated and embraced each other as the latest searches connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann drew to a close. Search teams wound down the operation in Atalaia, near Lagos, Portugal, on Thursday, after three days of scouring scrubland and abandoned structures. Their efforts focused on a 120-acre stretch of land, using equipment such as chainsaws, diggers and a ground-penetrating radar. The operation comes 18 years after three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from nearby Praia da Luz while on holiday with her family in 2007. The British girl vanished after she was left sleeping while her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, went for dinner in a nearby restaurant. Officers involved in the latest searches held a debrief before leaving the site, and there was a round of applause before a crate of German beer was removed from one of the tents in the designated base area. After the Augustiner beers were carried away, some officers struggled to grapple with the tents they were taking down because of the blustery conditions. Earlier in the day, personnel could be seen holding pitchforks as they combed stretches of land. Pick-axes and shovels were used to dig some of the undergrowth and a digger was again used to remove rubble from one of the abandoned structures at the site. They spent the first two days of the search focusing on one particular derelict building, using ground-penetrating radar on the cobbled ground after clearing the area of debris and vegetation using a digger and chainsaws. British officers have not been present at the latest searches, the Metropolitan Police said. Madeleine's parents have not commented during the 'active police investigation', staff at the Find Madeleine Campaign said. German authorities requested the search as part of their continued attempts to source evidence to implicate prime suspect Christian Brueckner, who is in prison for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005. He is due to be released from jail in September if no further charges are brought. In October last year, Brueckner was cleared by a German court of unrelated sexual offences, alleged to have taken place in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. In 2023, investigators carried out searches near the Barragem do Arade reservoir, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz. Brueckner spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017 and had photographs and videos of himself near the reservoir. Boy, 15, in court charged with attempted murder after teen 'stabbed' in Glasgow
The youngster appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court today. A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after another teenager the same age was found seriously injured in Glasgow. The alleged victim was found seriously injured in Glasgow last Friday. The 15-year-old was found hurt in Denbeck Street, in the city's Shettleston area, at around 10.30pm on May 29, 2025. He was taken to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and has since been discharged. The 15-year-old suspect was charged with attempted murder when he appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday. The boy from Glasgow, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not enter a plea. The case against him was continued for prosecutors to investigate further and he was released on bail. Emergency services raced to the alleged stabbing and the teen was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. He has since been discharged. Investigations established that four individuals, all dressed in dark clothing, were seen fleeing the area and heading towards Shettleston Road and then onto Wellshot Road.
