Arizona Cardinals fall after free agency in new NFL power rankings Despite a clearly improved roster, the Cardinals fell in new NFL.com power rankings.
The Arizona Cardinals have an improved roster after a week of NFL free agency in 2025. It is clear they have an improved team, between offseason additions and the expected return of other players who were injured.
But where do they rank in the NFL compared to other teams?
NFL.com's Eric Edholm put together post-free agency power rankings and the world champion Philadelphia Eagles are at the top, where perhaps they belong.
But the Arizona Cardinals, despite their roster improvements, fell two spots from No. 17 overall to No. 19, the lowest mark in the NFC West.
The Cardinals have been the quietest team in the NFC West -- by far -- at least in terms of buzz. The Seahawks have undergone a massive overhaul, the 49ers have lost a ton of big contributors, and the Rams have made major changes at receiver. Arizona's moves have paled in comparison, volume-wise. But there's hope that Josh Sweat can become a top pass rusher and a strong complement to Darius Robinson, Baron Browning and new nose tackle Dalvin Tomlinson. It's an interesting little group the Cards are putting together there. Arizona has intrigued me the past few seasons, but with this incarnation, I'm not quite there yet. And I'd have no problem with this team going offensive line in Round 1 and leaning even more into the run game next season.

Have the Cardinals been the quietest? Sure, the Seahawks made bigger-name moves, adding Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp, while the Rams added Davante Adams. Perhaps the 49ers' offseason has been louder because of the losses.
But the Cardinals have an incredibly improved defensive front, which was their biggest weakness by far.
Should they be ranked the lowest in the NFC West? It's understandable. They were ahead of everyone except the 49ers at the end of the season, but people still believe San Francisco is a competitor in the conference.
So it would appear that, while the Cardinals are an improved team, they are not as improved as other teams around the league.

By skipping practice at OTAs for the second straight year, Lamar Jackson adds to the forfeited bonus that now exceeds one million dollars.
By skipping practice at OTAs for the second straight year, Lamar Jackson adds to the forfeited bonus that now exceeds one million dollars. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Star quarterback Lamar Jackson may be up for a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, but his current deal includes bonus that could still go into effect ... if necessary. Advertisement Jackson has chosen to skip voluntary workouts at Ravens' OTAs for the second consecutive year, now forcing him to miss out on this add-on to his salary. The quarterback's five-year, $260 million contract includes a feature that states he can earn a $750,000 bonus if he attends at least 80 percent of the team's workouts. The agreement is in play for the next three years, as well. But due to his absence, Jackson has now forfeited $1.5 million of bonus over the last two seasons by skipping the team's organized team activities. As Pro Football Talk also notes, Jackson could be at greater risk within his contract terms. Advertisement If he is working out away from the facility - like many expect he is - and gets injured, it would qualify as a "non-football injury" which could "allow the team to not pay him in 2025." Hopefully the Ravens won't have to worry about the situation getting to that point, as they may not be too worried about whether or not he is at these preliminary practices to begin with. If last year is an example, Jackson missing OTAs didn't affect his performance on the field as he guided the Ravens to another division championship and was practically one dropped-pass away from a conference championship berth. However, as the on-field leader and perennial MVP candidate, the expectation is that he would be a full participant in every opportunity to get any inch closer to the dream of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the first time - even if that is attending OTAs. Advertisement Plus, he could get three quarters of a million dollars in the process. Or not. Regardless, Jackson is expected to make his first appearance at the upcoming mandatory minicamp. His contract extension is drawing predictions of exceeding the league record for average annual salary ... of course, before practice bonuses. Maybe the Ravens are better off getting ahead of things and excluding those terms from his next contract. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Arenado delivered a pinch-hit RBI double in the ninth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals stifled the Los Angeles Dodgers' offense for a second straight game in a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Nolan Gorman led off the ninth with a ground-rule double before being replaced with a pinch runner. After Pedro Pages reached on an error by pitcher Ben Casparius (4-1), the Dodgers vacated left field to play with five infielders, and Arenado's lazy fly ball landed just inside the foul line and bounced into the stands for another ground-rule double. It was the second straight blown save for Helsley. Masyn Winn raced home on Alec Burleson's infield single to put St. Louis ahead 1-0 in the eighth inning. Erick Fedde walked four and struck out two in 5 1-3 scoreless innings, giving up four singles. He allowed the first two batters to reach in the sixth before striking out Andy Pages. PIRATES 2, PHILLIES 1 PITTSBURGH (AP) — Henry Davis hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Pittsburgh to a victory over Philadelphia after the slumping Phillies placed star first baseman Bryce Harper on the injured list before the game with right wrist inflammation. The Pirates won for the third time in four games and can sweep the three-game series on Sunday. Rookie reliever Isaac Mattson (1-0) relieved with the score tied at 1-1, retired all the batters, and earned his first major-league win. RANGERS 5, NATIONALS 0 WASHINGTON (AP) — Jacob deGrom allowed two hits in seven shutout innings and Marcus Semien drove in three runs to lead Texas to a victory over Washington that snapped a four-game skid. Mercury sign ex-Dream 1st-round pick after Alyssa Thomas injury
The post Mercury sign ex-Dream 1st-round pick after Alyssa Thomas injury appeared first on ClutchPoints. With Alyssa Thomas being on the injury report and not being on the Phoenix Mercury's two-game road trip, the team signed former Atlanta Dream first-round pick Haley Jones to a hardship contract. Advertisement Jones was previously with the Dream. She was in all 40 games and had 24 starts. In those games, she averaged 3.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 17.8 minutes. However, the Dream's first-round pick was a star at Stanford. She was an all-around guard who was an exceptional rebounder for her size, as well as a crafty scorer. Her physicality was a major factor in Stanford's success and also contributed to their 2021 national championship win. Even though the Dream shockingly released Jones, she's found her way onto another WNBA team. Her contributions can complement Phoenix well. After all, Jones and Thomas are a bit similar in their play styles. They are both extremely physical, tenacious defenders, and have a knack for getting into the teeth of the defense. Advertisement Still, the influx of injuries, combined with Jones playing her first game with the team doesn't make matters any easier. Haley Jones is a nice addition to the Mercury with Alyssa Thomas out © Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images As mentioned earlier, Jones has a knack for getting into the teeth of the defense. However, the team is down a good number of players. Now, the Mercury are down three starters, including Kahleah Copper and Natasha Mack. Regardless of that, Satou Sabally has put the team on her back, and other players have risen to the occasion. For instance, rookies Monique Akoa Makani, Kitija Laksa, and Kathryn Westbeld have stepped up big time. Advertisement Adding Jones to the mix can provide the team with some youth, yet nice experience. Even though she brings that experience, learning a new system in less than 24 hours is daunting. No matter what, Phoenix has a chance to secure its fifth win of the season against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. Jones can be an immediate contributor in a short-handed Mercury squad.
