Teen 'half an inch' from death as he's stabbed 10 times in front of girlfriend
A man has been charged with attempted murder after Morgan Hopkins almost bled to death following a knife attack.
A rugby player was "half an inch" from death after he was stabbed 10 times in front of his girlfriend on a night out.
Morgan Hopkins, 22, from Swansea is in hospital recovering from a 10 and a half hour operation following his brutal ordeal.
Morgan, known as "Hoppy" to his friends and teammates at Morriston RFC, was attacked while waiting for a taxi at the end of a night out in Gorseinon on Saturday with his girlfriend, reports Wales Online.
His family say he was stabbed around 10 times and his surgeon estimated one of the wounds was barely half an inch away from causing him to bleed to death.
Morgan has suffered severe, life-changing injuries as a result of the attack, and has endured hours of surgery where doctors had to remove part of his bowel, and sew his tendons back together.
Morgan's mother, Victoria Owens Hopkins, described the day of June 22 as "the worst day of [her] life."
She said: "In the early hours of Sunday morning my son and his girlfriend were sitting on a bench waiting for a lift home when Morgan was attacked with a knife.
"He was stabbed 10 times. At first we thought they were superficial so we were all very relaxed.
"But that turned into 10.5 hours of Morgan having major surgery, where he had part of his bowel removed. He has had to have nerves and tendons sewn back in his arms."
Doctors told Morgan's family that if one of his wounds was half and inch in the other direction, Morgan would have bled to death.
Victoria said: "Half an inch saved his life. So in all this we consider ourselves very lucky."
The family have confirmed that Morgan's surgeon said it will be a week before they know if the operation was successful, though Morgan has now been moved from intensive care and is in a stable condition.
South Wales Police arrested and charged a 20-year-old man for attempted murder and being in possession of a bladed article following the alleged attack. Officers are now appealing for witnesses.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "An investigation is ongoing in relation to a serious assault which occurred during the early hours of the morning on Sunday June 22,2025, at The New Lodge Social Club, Alexandra Road, Gorseinon.
"The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.
"Twenty-year-old Kane Evans from Gorseinon has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
Morgan's rugby team, Morriston RFC, have set up a fundraiser to help cover medical costs, so that he can access private rehabilitation services upon his release from hospital, and not worry about returning to work.
A spokesperson for the rugby club said: "Not only does Morgan have physical wounds from this attack, but he will suffer from psychological trauma for years to come.
"The purpose of this GoFundMe page is to raise money for Morgan as he's going to be out of work for some time.
"We'd also like to raise some money for Morgan to be able to have some private sessions for physical and mental rehabilitation should he wish to have this.
"Our thoughts go out to Morgan and his family during this difficult time and wish him a speedy recovery. See you on the rugby pitch again soon Hoppy."

Lenny Scott police call released as he told operator 'I'm in fear for my family's life'
The moment Lenny Scott told police he believed his family home was being watched has been played to the jury in the trial over his murder. Elias Morgan and Anthony Cleary are accused of the murder of Mr Scott, who was fatally injured when he was shot on Peel Road in Skelmersdale on February 8 last year. Alex Leach KC, prosecuting, has told the jury at Preston Crown Court that prison officer and dad-of-three Mr Scott had been "murdered as an act of retaliation" after he exposed an illicit relationship between convict Morgan and one of his colleagues. The 13-person jury, of nine men and four women, heard that after failing to convince Mr Scott not to report a phone containing evidence of the relationship to his superiors, Morgan allegedly told him: "I'll bide my time, but I promise I will get you" before allegedly making a gun gesture. On the third day of the trial, Thursday, June 26, the jury heard a phone call made by Mr Scott to 101 just days after he had seized the iPhone from Morgan on March 26, 2020. Speaking to the call operator, the prison officer for HMP Altcourse tells her he was in fear of his family's safety after Morgan allegedly had men watching his house. When asked who was making the threat on Mr Scott and his family, he said: "Elias Morgan. He's described my family, to a tee, and my house. He said he's had them [men] there just ready. "It's over because I nicked him for a phone and until I drop that he said they're staying there and they're just going to constantly be around my house. I'm in fear for my family's life, that's all." Mr Scott spoke calmly to the operator as she asked him if he had noticed anyone outside his home in the days prior to the threat, but he said he hadn't. He further explained that the threats came as a result of an iPhone "incriminating" Morgan. The dad continued: "He said he's got lads everywhere. He's described my vehicle and he's described my house and what my girlfriend and twin boys look like." When asked whether Morgan was "chatting over this", Mr Scott replied Morgan was "being too specific" for it not to be true. "I've got twins, they're twins but they have different coloured hair," he told the operator. "He's got everything to a tee. He's described my house, everything. This is my third jail, I've been threatened all the time but this is closer to home." Due to the incident happening at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Scott explained how his girlfriend, Lucy Griffiths, and children were self-isolating before apologising to the operator. He said: "I'm sorry if you think I'm wasting your time." The call continues as the operator arranges for a patrol car to meet him near his house by the time he leaves the prison and gets home. Analysis of the phone "revealed Elias Morgan was engaged in a sexual relationship with another prison officer, Sarah Williams" the court heard. Mr Leach added: "It was clear that she had provided Elias Morgan with details about other prisoners. The court heard Mr Scott gave a witness statement and Morgan was arrested and interviewed under caution. Williams admitted three offences of misconduct in a public officer and a computer misuse offence, while Morgan pleaded not guilty to unauthorised possession of the mobile phone. His trial was adjourned until February 19 2024 - 11 days after Mr Scott was killed. Morgan, 35, of Highgate Street, and Cleary, 29, of Smithdown Lane, both deny murder. Cleary also denies a second count of manslaughter. The trial before Mr Justice Goose continues.

Swansea residents have been sent the messages that appear to be council tax payment reminders. The emails state that the recipient has an outstanding council tax payment on their account and prompts them to click on a link to 'confirm their payment status'. Council Leader Rob Stewart has cautioned people against engaging with the email. The email has the subject 'Council Tax Payment Verification' and is addressed to a 'Household Representative'. It claims to be sent from 'District Tax Administration ' and from 'rh@ An example of the scam email shared by Swansea's Council leader (Image: Rob Stewart ) It reads: 'We're writing to inform you that our system shows an outstanding balance for your council tax. This may represent a genuine non-payment or could be due to processing delays. Warning people on Facebook, Cllr Rob Stewart wrote: ' We have received reports of scam emails being sent to residents. They look like council tax payment reminders e-mail with a fake link to click on - an example is below. 'Please DO NOT click on the link as these are scam emails. These emails are not sent by the Council Tax team and should be deleted.' A Council spokesperson added: 'We're getting reports that residents are receiving emails claiming to be from the council, stating there is an outstanding Council Tax balance due on their account and asking them to click on a link to check their payments. 'The reported e-mails have been sent from 'District Tax Administration ' and from 'rh@ These emails are a scam and should be ignored or deleted.
