Bengaluru Tech Summit: Karnataka launches ‘Katalyst' to fast-track GCC setup

The Karnataka government on Monday launched KATALYST , a dedicated Ease of Doing Business cell to support Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the state. Addressing over 200 CEOs at a breakfast meeting before the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) kicked off, chief minister Siddaramaiah said the move would make Karnataka 'one of India's most business-friendly states.'The one-stop window will fast-track GCC setup to under 45 days, offer a single-point GCC handbook, and streamline industry connect and incentive queries. Under its GCC Policy 2024-2029 , Karnataka aims to add 500 GCCs by 2029, creating 3.5 lakh jobs and $50 billion in economic output. The state currently hosts 875 GCCs, accounting for 30% of India's total GCC count.'We host over 875 global capability centres, which is 30% of India's total. Our goal is to add 500 more GCCs by 2029, creating 350,000 jobs and $50 billion in economic output,' the CM said during his address to the CEOs.He added that the state is also building tech clusters beyond Bengaluru to ensure growth across the state. The CM also highlighted Karnataka's role in shaping India's tech future, citing its share of 44% in software exports and hosting half of the country's artificial intelligence (AI) talent.As per the government, the three-day summit will be held from November 18-20, which will play host to 20,000 startup founders, 1,000 investors, 600 speakers, and 1,200 exhibitors from more than 60 countries. Themed "Futurise," the BTS will feature 10 conference tracks spanning AI, semiconductors, biotech, spacetech, fintech, and sustainability. Key highlights from the event will include the Future Makers Conclave, Startup Springboard, and country delegations under the Global Innovation Alliance.Priyank Kharge, minister for IT-BT, said its bold new vision, expanded scale, and global outlook, BTS 2025, will further strengthen Karnataka's leadership in shaping the future of technology, innovation, and sustainable development for India and the world.

Telangana Information Technology (IT) department issued an advisory to all IT and ITES companies operating in Hyderabad and adjoining areas to facilitate work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for employees on Wednesday (August 13, 2025) in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for the city and its surrounding areas. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy along with IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday (August 12, 202%) held a video conference with collectors and senior officials where directions were issued to take steps so that IT employees opt for WFH. The State IT department's Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar advised the companies to facilitate WFH arrangements, wherever possible, and issue internal advisories to staff regarding safe travel and emergency contact procedures. 'The cooperation of all IT industry stakeholders is solicited in ensuring employee safety and uninterrupted service delivery during this period,' as per the advisory issued on Tuesday. The Education department has announced half-a-day for government and private schools within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits on August 13 and 14.

Chennai Corporation has roped in additional workers for launching a mass cleaning drive in Royapuram and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zones owing to the protest by workers. Many farm hands from areas such as Vandavasi have started cleaning the streets. 'We have deployed 1000 additional workers to strengthen the mass cleaning drive. More workers will start cleaning the streets shortly,' said an official. GCC has started a mass cleaning drive in various streets where garbage has accumulated owing to the protests. Chennai Corporation officials said more workers from the city will be deployed to clean the streets. However, the protesting workers alleged that the private contractor of the GCC has roped in farm hands from areas such as Vandavasi to clean the streets as the protest is under way. 'Over 100 farm hands from Vandavasi have started visiting the city to clean the streets every day in the morning, and returning home after 2 p.m. They get Rs.700 as wages per day. They used to get Rs.250 per day in their village for agricultural labour,' said the worker. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder visited the workers and expressed solidarity with them. Chennai Corporation in a press release on Tuesday urged the workers to resume work, pointing to the benefits and job security under the new private company. The workers who join the company will be eligible for PF, ESI, bonus, festival advance, financial assistance for marriage and education and insurance cover. The workers will get a financial assistance of Rs. 20000 for marriage, education advance of Rs.12000 and other financial assistance. The workers are eligible for 12 days casual leave, 12 days earned leave, double wages for national holidays. The workers will get safety gear and assistance under the welfare board. GCC will ensure 100% job security and welfare for all the workers who join the private company, the release said.
