Netflix viewers 'can't wait' for new thriller thanks to actor stepping into lead role
The film adaptation is based on author Ruth Ware's best-selling thriller novel of the same name. It was first published in 2016 and sees a woman board a luxury yacht where she witnesses a murder Netflix viewers are excited to tune in for a new thriller set to drop this autumn, all thanks to the star power of Keira Knightley. The 40-year-old actor boasts a stellar track record, including her Oscar-nominated turn in 2005's Pride and Prejudice, her swashbuckling role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and her most recent appearance in 2024's Black Doves. The celebrated performer takes centre stage in the screen adaptation of The Woman in Cabin 10, drawn from Ruth Ware's best-selling 2016 novel. It's scheduled to land on Netflix on October 10, sending excitement soaring among both Knightley devotees and book enthusiasts. The story follows travel writer Lo Blacklock, who receives an invitation to board an opulent yacht for its maiden journey. Though the voyage begins in picture-perfect tranquillity, Lo is horrified when she witnesses a fellow passenger being hurled into the ocean during the dead of night. However, when she raises the alarm, she's dismissed and told she must have dreamt the entire incident, as every traveller is present and accounted for. With no one officially reported missing, Lo embarks on a perilous mission to uncover the truth. Author Ruth Ware explained to Tudum: "Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn't taken seriously because of who she is. "Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo." The novel was released nearly ten years ago, but the author maintains its significance remains timeless because "the fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately". When Netflix announced the film adaptation's launch date on social media, many rushed to the comments to express their excitement, with both the streaming giant and cinema aficionados thrilled to witness Keira Knightley taking on another starring part. In the caption alongside the announcement, Netflix wrote: "You had me at 'Keira Knightley'. The Woman In Cabin 10 arrives 10 October". One admirer wrote: "I can't wait" while another declared: "I'm SOLD!" A third said: "October 10 can't come quick enough" while a fourth agreed: "Can't wait! Love this book". Someone else commented: "Anything with Keira [bring] it on". Another mentioned Keira's co-star Kaya Scodelario, known for Skins and The Maze Runner series, with equal enthusiasm: "I hear [Kaya Scodelario] is in it, that's me sold". Ware praised the film's cast as "truly amazing", explaining: "I've said in acknowledgements before that it takes a village to make a book, but what I learned going on set for Cabin 10 is that it takes a whole town to make a film - it's truly amazing seeing so many people working so hard on something you created. "It's also a big leap of faith, of course - like handing your baby over to strangers. But I feel Lo [played by Knightley] and company are in good hands."

TV series 'Wednesday' returns with family and female-focused Season Two
LONDON, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Actress Jenna Ortega and the creators of the hit Netflix series "Wednesday" are hoping to surpass expectations as the show returns to screens after almost three years. The dark fantasy series' first season, which premiered in November 2022, ranks as Netflix's most popular English-language show of all time, with more than 252 million views in the first 91 days of release. As well as reprising the titular role, Ortega, 22, took on executive producer duties for the new season. Filmmaker Tim Burton also returns as one of the directors and executive producers. "I've always been very protective of the character. I just want to make sure that we're always doing her justice," said Ortega. "It's the most we've ever seen her on screen so there's a lot of room and opportunity to maybe go off track. "Fortunately we have a really great creative team. I'm doing my best to be on it, but you also have people like Tim, who are monitoring." The second season sees Wednesday returning to Nevermore Academy as a celebrated hero, much to her dismay. She investigates new supernatural mysteries, while dealing with glitches in her psychic powers. Wednesday also faces another nuisance - family. Her little brother Pugsley starts his studies at Nevermore and their parents are a frequent presence on campus. Bringing the Addams Family to the academy allowed co-creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to expand the storylines of the characters introduced in the first season and explore mother-daughter dynamics. "We thought, wouldn't that be, for Wednesday, the ultimate thorn in her side if Morticia (her mother) came to school," said Millar. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia, promised fast-paced scenes between the two. "It's a dance and a play of emotions," Zeta-Jones said. The season's focus on female relationships stood out as one of its stronger points for Ortega. "We're so oftentimes taught to compete against one another and there's always some sort of comparing game that people are going to enforce on you," Ortega said. "What I love about the women I am working with and the characters, every woman in this show wants to see the other succeed. I think that's really important for young people to see today," she added. The sophomore season also introduces new characters, including Steve Buscemi's Nevermore principal Barry Dort and the Addams family matriarch Grandmama Hester Frump, played by Joanna Lumley. Pop star Lady Gaga makes a guest star appearance as a teacher in Part 2. "Wednesday" has already been renewed for a third season, with Gough and Millar in the writers' room "cooking that up" and ready to go beyond. "We have goalposts for other things. There could be spinoffs, there could be other iterations of the show," Millar said. "It's such a big world. We are excited to explore it as much as we can." "Wednesday" Season Two will be released in two four-episode installments, with Part One dropping August 6 and Part Two out on September 3.
