At Just 13, Princess Estelle of Sweden Steps Up into an Unexpected Royal Role
Princess Estelle of Sweden, 13, was announced as a godparent to her baby cousin Princess Ines
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's daughter Ines, 5 months, will be baptized tomorrow
Estelle's emotional role deepens the connection between her and her uncle Carl Philip, as he is her godfatherPrincess Estelle of Sweden is taking on a meaningful new role within her royal family.
On June 12, the Royal House of Sweden confirmed that Princess Estelle, 13, is one of the godparents for Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's new baby daughter, Princess Ines.
The update came the day before Princess Ines' royal baptism at Drottningholm Palace Chapel on June 13, which falls on her parents' tenth wedding anniversary.
"The Prince and Princess have chosen the following five godparents for Princess Ines: HRH Princess Estelle, Fredrik von der Esch, Claes Kockum, Sandrine Kockum [and] Tiara Larsson," a statement said.
Hello! magazine reported that the group of godparents is a mix of friends and family. The outlet identified Frederik and Claes as Carl Philip's longtime friends, Sadrine as Claes' wife and Tiara as Princess Sofia's goddaughter and bridesmaid.
It was sentimental for Carl Philip, 46, and Sofia, 40, to ask their goddaughters to take on a godmother role to their own baby daughter, who was born Feb. 7. Princess Estelle especially can show her cousin all of the royal ropes as she grows up, as she is second in line to the Swedish throne.
Princess Estelle is the eldest child of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, who also share a son, Prince Oscar, 9. Estelle follows her mother in the line of succession, meaning that she is expected to be queen one day.
Like other royal children of her generation today, Estelle's schedule is focused on school, and she only attends a few official events each year.
The Swedish palace released a new portrait of the princess to ring in her 13th birthday in February and she recently joined her family on the Royal Palace balcony for King Carl XVI Gustaf's April 30 birthday.
The Swedish royals appeared in full force for the Armed Forces celebration commemorating the King's 79th birthday, in what doubled as baby Princess Ines' public debut! Princess Sofia carried her daughter out on to palace balcony in what marked the infant princess' first public appearance, and cameras captured a sweet moment where all of the family members assembled turned to look at Ines.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, who are also known as the Duke and Duchess of Värmland, married in June 2015 and became a family of five when Princess Ines was born this year. The couple were already parents to three sons, Prince Alexander, 9, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 4.
Princess Ines' full name is Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, with the name Marie honoring Sofia's mother and the name Silvia a tribute to Carl Philip's mother, the Queen.
It's sentimental that the little princess will be christened on June 13, which marks her parents' tenth wedding anniversary.
On the eve of their wedding day, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia posted a royal reel of never-before-seen photos from their fairytale wedding day at the Royal Palace on June 13, 2015.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden Celebrate Two Major Milestones on the Same Day
Sweden's Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia christened their four-month-old daughter Princess Ines on June 13. June 13 also doubles as the couple's milestone 10th wedding anniversary. Ines is the youngest of four children born to the Duke and Duchess of Värmland, who also are parents to three Swedish royal family turned out for a special occasion today—the christening of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's youngest child and only daughter, Princess Ines, who was born in February. Ines's christening on June 13 also doubled as another special occasion for Carl Philip and Sofia: it marked their milestone 10th wedding anniversary. Since marrying in 2015, the couple have welcomed three sons and, at last, their baby girl on February 7. The christening Friday took place at Drottningholm Palace Chapel, and Carl Philip's parents King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were in attendance, as were Carl Philip's sisters—older sister Crown Princess Victoria and younger sister Princess Madeleine, who just celebrated her 43rd birthday on June 10. While Sofia was no doubt a proud mom as her daughter was christened, future queen Victoria also beamed with pride as her eldest daughter and heir to the throne Princess Estelle was named as one of Ines's five godparents. This choice was especially poignant, as Carl Philip is one of Estelle's godparents. While Silvia and Victoria chose floral patterns for the christening Friday, Sofia chose bold, bright yellow, while Carl Philip was dressed in military uniform. The couple—who are also known as the Duke and Duchess of Värmland—are also parents to sons Prince Alexander, 9, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 4. After her February birth, Ines made her public debut on April 30 for the Armed Forces celebration commemorating King Carl XVI Gustaf's 79th birthday, where the infant was carried out onto the balcony of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Ines's full name is Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, with the name Marie honoring Sofia's mother and the name Silvia, of course, an homage to Carl Philip's mother, the Queen. Ahead of Ines's christening on June 13, on June 12 Carl Philip and Sofia shared never-before-seen images from their wedding a decade ago, writing alongside the images, 'Tomorrow we celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. On June 13, 2015, we got married. We are so grateful for the joy and warmth that met us that day and has continued throughout these 10 years. Now we have four wonderful children, and tomorrow we are christening our little Ines.' A reception and private lunch followed Ines's christening Friday to close the happy day. Princess Sofia of Sweden Pops in Yellow at Royal Christening, Just Like Kate Middleton Did
Princess Sofia of Sweden wore a bright yellow outfit for the christening of her baby daughter, Princess Ines, on June 13 Her royal style called back to a similar shade that Kate Middleton wore for Prince George's christening in 2013 Both royals completed their looks with a chic headpiecePrincess Sofia of Sweden brought the sunshine to her baby's royal baptism, just like Kate Middleton did for Prince George. Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip led the way at the baptism of their daughter Princess Ines, 5 months, on June 13, which doubled as their tenth wedding anniversary. The christening at Drottningholm Palace Chapel in Lovön was a royal family affair attended by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia as well as Prince Carl Philip's sisters, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine, plus their husbands and children. Princess Sofia, 40, popped in a yellow midi dress with a coordinating headband and heels for the church ceremony, where her baby daughter was baptized by Chief Chaplain Bishop Johan Dalman and Ordinary Chaplain Michael Bjerkhagen, pastor of the Royal Court Assembly. Sofia's look called back to a similar outfit that Princess Kate wore to the christening of her eldest son, Prince George. Prince William and Princess Kate, 43, christened George in October 2013 when he was three months old. There, she wore a creamy yellow suit dress by Alexander McQueen with a matching floral fascinator, and the outfit by her bridal gown designer wasn't the only connection to her wedding! At the private tea following George's christening at the Chapel Royal of St. James's Palace in London, guests were served "christening cake," which was a tier taken from William and Kate's wedding cake in 2011. Princess Ines was baptized on a special day: her parents' tenth wedding anniversary. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's son married Sofia Hellqvist (a model, reality TV star and yoga instructor before her marriage) at the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm on June 13, 2015. The couple brought plenty of modern touches to their royal wedding, including a cake made with Pop Rocks and a performance by the Swedish DJ Avicii. The royal couple (who also go by the titles of Duke and Duchess of Värmland) went on to welcome three sons, Prince Alexander, 9, Prince Gabriel, 7, Prince Julian, 4, and became a family of five when Princess Ines was born on Feb. 7. Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip, 46, shared an unseen reel of photos from their wedding on the eve of their anniversary and Ines' christening, shouting out both family milestones. In a sentimental gesture, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia chose his niece and goddaughter Princess Estelle as one of Ines' five godparents. The tribute is a special royal role for Crown Princess Victoria's 13-year-old daughter, who was all smiles as she posed for photo with her family after the baptism.
