Irish pubs get big business on St. Patty's Day
De Pere, Wis.(WFRV) – Some local Irish pubs are feeling like they found gold at the end of the rainbow.
That's because it's St. Patrick Day on Monday, the busiest day of the year for many Irish pubs and restaurants.

'St. Patrick's Day is four times busier than our normal Friday fish fry,' said Wade Conard who is the owner of McGeorge's Pub in De Pere. 'Friday fish fry is the biggest day of the week normally.'
The St. Patrick's Day party at McGeorge's began at 6 a.m. Monday and continued throughout the day. The bar packed with green-wearing revelers embracing the spirit of the holiday.

Conard said that the holiday falling on a Monday isn't a problem.
'It's a great day to have it because if it's a Friday then I get burned because we're already busy with Friday fish fries,' he said. 'I need it on an off day.'
The Monday holiday didn't seem to bother revelers at McGeorge's either.
'It's St. Patrick's Day, there's no day of the week on St. Patrick's Day,' he said. 'There's only St. Patrick's Day. Being together and being happy and the Irish do that very well.'

Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn team to win the American Family Insurance Championship
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — European Ryder Cup captains and teammates Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn won the American Family Insurance Championship on Sunday, shooting a 7-under 64 in better-ball play for a four-stroke victory over four teams. The tournament hosted by Steve Stricker — who tied for second with brother-in-law Mario Tiziani — switched to the team format this year, giving the PGA Tour Champions its only team event. Advertisement Clarke and Bjorn finished at 32-under 181 at TPC Wisconsin. They opened with a better-ball 59 and shot a 58 on Saturday in a scramble round. The 56-year-old Clarke, from Northern Ireland, won for the fifth time on the 59-and-over tour. The 54-year-old Bjorn, from Denmark, won his first Champions title. Striker and Tiziani closed with a 65 to match the teams of Alex Cejka-Soren Kjeldsen (59), Doug Barron-Dicky Pride (69) and Steve Flesch-Paul Goydos (64) at 28 under. Bernhard Langer and Steven Alker were another stroke back after a 63. Ernie Els, the winner last year in individual play, teamed with Tim Herron for a 66 that left them 26 under. ___ AP golf:

Brewers Claim Speedy Outfielder From Athletics In Bid To Bolster Roster Depth
Brewers Claim Speedy Outfielder From Athletics In Bid To Bolster Roster Depth originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Milwaukee Brewers have made a roster move in the midst of Sunday's finale against the San Diego Padres. The team announced that they have claimed outfielder Drew Avans off waivers from the Athletics. Advertisement Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was first to report the move. The Brewers had an open 40 man roster spot following Tyler Alexander's DFA last week. That spot is now filled with Avans, who has been immediately optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Avans is a 28 year old speedy outfielder that just got his first taste of the big leagues this year with the Athletics. © Allan Henry-Imagn Images While Avans' MLB debut did not go particularly well, getting just two hits in 15 ABs, he's put up some strong numbers in Triple-A. He's been at Triple-A since 2021, with most of those years coming in the Dodgers organization. He signed with the A's as a minor league free agent ahead of the 2025 season. Advertisement This year, Avans is hitting .328/.414/.444 with four homers, 16 stolen bases and 30 walks to 31 strikeouts. Avans has stolen at least 20 bases in every season of his pro career except for one and his career high is 40 steals. The Athletics DFAed Avans on Friday. The Brewers have been lacking some outfield depth since Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins have been on the IL most of the season. Daz Cameron has been the backup outfielder for Milwaukee and has just a .522 OPS since being called up. They don't have many options in the upper minors to call upon, so Avans provides some additional depth. He's a left-handed hitter, so he makes for some redundancy as the Brewers have a bevy of lefty hitting outfielders. The Brewers also have MLB veteran Eddie Rosario down in Triple-A. Advertisement Perhaps Avans' speed and on-base ability will be able to translate if he's given some run in Milwaukee that he wasn't able to find with the Athletics.
