Bill Belichick gives Max Johnson update after severe leg injury
North Carolina football head coach Bill Belichick has one significant injury on his hands. Which came before the eight-time Super Bowl winning coach arrived at Chapel Hill. Belichick now provided an update on where things stand with Max Johnson.

The 2024 quarterback sustained a severe leg injury in 2024. Belichick revealed via Dan Morrison of On3 where the quarterback's health currently stands.
'Max is doing very well,' Belichick began. 'His rehab has been long and I have a lot of admiration for him.'
Belichick acknowledged that the quarterback endured a rough road to recovery. But has hit his recovery hard.
'It's a tough injury, but nobody's worked harder than he has, and he certainly is able to do a lot more than he was last spring,' Belichick said. 'So, we'll see exactly where he is when things start, but it's a whole lot closer, and we certainly expect to see him out there. So, it's been very encouraging.'

Johnson will be a seasoned veteran on the college football side. He's earning a sixth season of eligibility.
Belichick once needed to game plan against Johnson's father before. The UNC QB's dad is Brad Johnson, who won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Johnson and the Bucs won one year after Belichick's first Vince Lombardi Trophy victory with the New England Patriots.
North Carolina is the younger Johnson's third collegiate stops. He previously played for LSU and Texas A&M. Johnson enters 2025 with 5,853 passing yards and 47 touchdowns. He's completed 60.5% of his throws. He only started against Minnesota, however, before his devastating leg ailment.

Johnson now enters a vastly different UNC QB room through Belichick. Gio Lopez is on board for the Tar Heels as a college football transfer portal addition. Lopez arrives via South Alabama.
Belichick and North Carolina landed one more high-profile QB in March. Travis Burgess chose UNC over Auburn and UNC rival North Carolina State — giving the 'Heels a 6-foot-5 quarterback.

Super Bowl champion and former NFL linebacker Bryan Braman is "in the fight of his life" after being diagnosed with a "very rare" form of cancer. Braman, who helped the Eagles defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up on his behalf in February. Now, in the face of cancer, he embodies those qualities more than ever. If there is one person that I know that can beat cancer, it is Bryan Braman, who I have always considered family. "He's in the fight of his life. Please support Bryan and keep him in your prayers." The latest update on the fundraiser from last month stated that Braman had undergone "CAR-T cell reprogramming treatment." While initially showing signs of being effective, the organizer of the fundraiser said that "the cancer has grown exponentially faster, and is now growing around his vital organs." Braman spent the majority of his seven-year NFL career with the Eagles. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans in 2011, where he played for three seasons. He signed with the Eagles in 2014 and rejoined the team again right before the playoffs in 2017. He would go on to register one tackle in their Super Bowl victory. Blue Jackets sign restricted free agent Dmitri Voronkov to 2-year contract
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dmitri Voronkov, who has scored 18-plus goals in each of his first two NHL seasons and is regarded as one of the league's emerging power forwards, signed a two-year, $8.35 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. The deal pulls Voronkov off the restricted free-agent market, eliminating the risk of an offer sheet. Voronkov, who had arbitration rights, needed to decide before 5 p.m. ET Saturday if he wanted to request arbitration, but his new contract eliminates that decision. Advertisement His contract has a salary cap hit of $4.175 million. He earned $925,000 with his previous contract. 'We are very pleased to reach this agreement with Dmitri as he is an important part of our young core,' Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell said. 'He has size, strength and excellent hands, and he has a chance to be a very special player. We look forward to his continued growth and development as a Blue Jacket.' Voronkov, 24, set career highs last season with 23 goals, 24 assists and 47 points in 73 games. He also had 55 penalty minutes and a plus-17 rating. In coach Dean Evason's first season behind the Blue Jackets' bench, Voronkov, a 6-feet-5, 227-pound left winger, found a home on the top line with center Sean Monahan and right winger Kirill Marchenko, becoming one of the top lines in the NHL.
