Idea of Palestinian state buried, there's nothing to recognise: Israel minister
Development in E1, an open tract of land east of Jerusalem, has been under consideration for more than two decades, but was frozen due to US pressure during previous administrations. On Thursday, Smotrich praised President Donald Trump and US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee as "true friends of Israel as we have never had before." The E1 plan has not yet received its final approval, which is expected next week. The plan includes around 3,500 apartments to expand the settlement of Maale Adumim, Smotrich said. While some bureaucratic steps remain, if the process moves quickly, infrastructure work could begin in the next few months and construction of homes could start in around a year.
Rights groups swiftly condemned the plan. Peace Now called it "deadly for the future of Israel and for any chance of achieving a peaceful two-state solution" which is "guaranteeing many more years of bloodshed."The announcement comes as the Palestinian Authority and Arab countries condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement in an interview on Tuesday that he was "very" attached to the vision of a Greater Israel. He did not elaborate, but supporters of the idea believe that Israel should control not only the occupied West Bank but parts of Arab countries.

Israeli PM Netanyahu outlines 5 principles for ending Gaza war
Tel Aviv, Aug 14 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today outlined five principles set by the Cabinet for ending the Gaza war and said their implementation will ensure Israel's security and victory in the war. In a statement, Netanyahu said: "One week ago, I convened the Security Cabinet and we determined five principles for the conclusion of the war: 1. Hamas is to be disarmed. 2. All hostages - the living and the deceased - are to be returned. We will not give up on a single one. 3. The Strip is to be demilitarized. Not only must Hamas be disarmed, but it must be ensured that weapons will be neither produced in the Strip nor smuggled into the Strip. 4. There will be Israeli security control in the Gaza Strip, including the security perimeter. 5. There will be an alternative civil administration that is neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority - people who will neither educate their children for terrorism, nor finance terrorism, nor dispatch terrorism. "These five principles will ensure the security of Israel. This is the meaning of the word 'victory'," he said. The Israeli PM's statement comes a day after he said that he believes the prospects for a partial ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas are no longer possible. In an interview with Israeli broadcaster i24, Netanyahu said the possibility of reaching a partial agreement is behind us. He rejected accusations from opposition figures and former senior military officials that he was dragging his feet in the war, saying the goal remains to end the conflict, defeat Hamas and secure the release of all hostages as part of a single final agreement on our terms. On Sunday, Netanyahu said Israel plans to extend its military campaign beyond Gaza City into the last areas outside its control, where most of the enclave's roughly two million residents have taken refuge amid worsening humanitarian conditions. India backs two-state solution, calls for Gaza truce & hostage release amid Israel offensives
India called for 'ceasefire', 'unconditional release of all hostages', 'continued supply of humanitarian aid', and a 'two-state solution', as Israel continued to carry out military offensives in Gaza. 'Our position has been clear and consistent. There has been no change. We continue to call for a ceasefire, unconditional release of all hostages, continued supply of humanitarian aid, and we stand for a two state solution,' the Ministry of External Affairs' official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday. This statement came at a time when Mossad spy chief David Barnea is visiting Qatar to revive Gaza peace talks. The visit follows a reported expression of eagerness by Hamas for a swift return to Gaza ceasefire negotiations during a meeting with Egypt's intelligence chief in Cairo. Meanwhile, Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on Thursday plans to commence work on a long-delayed settlement that would divide the West Bank and isolate it from East Jerusalem, a move his office stated would 'bury' the idea of a Palestinian state. More than 100 non-profit groups warned Thursday that Israel's rules for aid groups working in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank will block much-needed relief and replace independent organisations with those that serve Israel's political and military agenda — charges that Israel denied. The Israel-Hamas war casualties add to the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed since the war started when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and abducting 251 people. Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed more 61,700 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which does not specify how many were fighters or civilians but says around half were women and children. Most of the hostages have been released in ceasefires or other deals but 50 remain inside Gaza. Israel believes around 20 of them to be alive.
