Bravo, SEC.
The nation's best basketball conference supplied half the teams in the Final Four. Througout March Madness, the SEC lived up to the hype, taking the Sweet 16, Elite Eight and now Final Four by storm.
Now, ready for the hardest part? Finish the journey with a national championship. The SEC's last national title came in 2012, when Kentucky cut down nets.
Oddsmakers point to Duke as the Final Four favorite, and if you've watched the Blue Devils throughout the tournament, you know that's a fair projection.
On this basketball-themed edition of "SEC Football Unfiltered," a podcast from the USA TODAY Network, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams assess the Final Four and make their final predictions. They also debate which SEC team, Auburn or Florida, would have a better chance of taking down Duke, if the Blue Devils beat Houston to advance to the national championship.

Which SEC team in Final Four has better chance of beating Duke?
Toppmeyer: Florida. I trust veteran guards to become the stars of March Madness. To that end, Florida senior Walter Clayton Jr. has been fabulous this tournament. Florida is no one-trick pony. It's armed with a lineup of players who can score in double figures, and the Gators play well at both ends of the court. But, in those clutch moments, you want the ball in Clayton's hands. He's proven he can deliver.
Adams: Florida. Clayton's heroics are becoming one of the top storylines of this tournament. How about that shot he hit against Texas Tech, when he gave up a shot in the paint to step out and drill a crucial 3-pointer? Now, that's one shining moment. To beat Duke, you need to match fire with fire. Clayton brings the heat, and the Gators are equipped with an array of 3-point shooters that can bring the full assault. (Ask Texas Tech for details.)
Who will win the national championship?
Toppmeyer: Houston over Florida. Houston is loaded with veterans who've been through the fires. No team defends better than the Cougars, and they have plenty of shot-makers, too.
Adams: Florida over Duke. The stars shine brightest in the NCAA Tournament. Clayton and his Gators will be the lasting story of this tournament, barely edging Duke and Cooper Flagg.

Alabama AD Greg Byrne on 9-game SEC schedule: 'This is a win for our program'

The SEC is adding a ninth conference game to its football schedule starting in 2026, something Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne is buying into. In a statement released on social media, Byrne said the move shows how the SEC is responding to the changing landscape of college football as a whole. "The implementation of a nine-game Southeastern Conference football schedule illustrates our league's commitment to evolving with the changing landscape and creating even more high-profile matchups," Byrne wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "This is a win for our program, student-athletes, fans and all of college football." On Thursday, Aug. 21, the SEC announced it will implement a nine-game conference schedule starting in 2026. The SEC is also mandating that each school schedule at least one Power 4 opponent or Notre Dame each season. "With the addition of a ninth SEC game, we will evaluate our future nonconference schedules," Byrne continued. SEC teams will face three conference opponents annually, while playing its final six conference games against a rotation of the rest of the conference teams. SEC football moves to nine-game conference schedule. What it means for Alabama football

SEC football is shifting its schedule starting in 2026. The SEC conference announced Thursday, Aug. 21, that it will implement a nine-game conference schedule starting in the 2026 season. "Adding a ninth SEC game underscores our universities' commitment to delivering the most competitive football schedule in the nation," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. "This format protects rivalries, increases competitive balance, and paired with our requirement to play an additional Power opponent, ensures SEC teams are well prepared to compete and succeed in the College Football Playoff." The SEC will continue with a single-standing, non-divisional structure. Each conference team will play three opponents annually to maintain traditional rivalries. The remaining six games in the conference schedule will rotate each season. Each SEC team will face every other conference program at least once every two years and every opponent home and away every four years. The SEC is also requiring teams to schedule at least one additional quality nonconference game against a team from the ACC, Big Ten or Big 12, or Notre Dame. What SEC schedule change means for Alabama football In the era of the College Football Playoff, the SEC's new nine-game conference schedule puts the conference on equal footing with conferences like the Big Ten and Big 12. Strength of schedule is already an important aspect of the CFP's evaluation of teams, especially with the committee's new "record strength" approach which will reward teams for victories against quality opponents and lessen penalties for losses against quality opponents. But it's a new reality that could disrupt a team like Alabama's plans for nonconference play, something Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne previously hinted at to the Tuscaloosa News. "I was pretty vocal last year, because I just kept hearing about two losses versus three," Byrne said. "So we're going to have keep evaluating and see if we end up at eight or nine (SEC) games. ... At nine games, that jeopardizes one of the two (each year)."
