Suspects elusive after Ontario man found dead in car crash was assaulted, kidnapped
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are still searching for five suspects allegedly involved in the assaulting and kidnapping of a man found dead in a car crash this month.
At roughly 6 p.m. May 14, OPP officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles that happened southbound on Hanlon Parkway, just north of Stone Road in Guelph.
One person with life-threatening injuries was found at the scene and was taken to hospital where they later died. OPP identified the victim last Monday as a 40-year-old man from Cambridge.

'Upon further investigation, police learned that the victim was assaulted, kidnapped and abducted from a residence on Fife Road by five suspects who fled in two different vehicles,' the OPP said in a May 19 news release.
The OPP did not have an update to provide when asked by Global News on Tuesday.

Police believe the case to be an isolated incident, and are looking for the public's help in finding a white 2013 Dodge RAM pickup truck with Ontario licence plate BZ 85153. The other vehicle involved is a grey 2010 Toyota Venza with Ontario licence plate CVBX 602.
'Police are asking residents and businesses in the area to review their security camera footage and share any relevant images or videos with the OPP,' the force said.
'Drivers who were in the area at the time are also asked to check their dash cams for any footage that may show the collision or suspect vehicles.'
Anyone with information about the suspects or vehicles is asked to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

In a release on Thursday, OPP noted one of the accused arrived at a meeting location with snacks while another showed up with sexual paraphernalia. Another accused was listed on the National Sex Offender Registry. All of the accused are men, ranging in age from 18 to 73, and although officers posed as children online and waited for offenders to make contact, nine real victims were identified. Police said they have been provided support and are safe. Some of the accused cannot be identified due to a publication ban and 51 ongoing investigations remain. Tim Brown said in the release. 'We urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to talk to your children about staying safe online. Police partners with the Provincial Internet Child Exploitation Strategy said there has been a significant rise in reports of online child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse material in recent years. ‘Very active' hunt for Toronto shooting suspects underway, chief says
Toronto police are 'laser focused' on tackling gun violence after a shooting Tuesday night left one person dead and five others hurt, chef Myron Demkiw says. Demkiw, alongside Mayor Olivia Chow and Coun. Mike Colle, spoke to reporters Thursday more than 24 hours after gunshots rattled the area of Flemington Road and Zachary Court in North York. 'I do want to reassure Torontonians that we are doing everything we possibly can to advance the investigation that is very active at the moment,' he said. 'We're also committed to doing everything we can to prevent and intervene regarding violence, not just in this community but across the city, and will remain to remain laser focused in our efforts to do everything we can to tackle gun violence, particularly as the summer months are upon us.' Police said all three were armed. 'It was a difficult conversation, but critically important. There was a lot of grief, which I completely understand. Losing a loved one or watching your neighbours being gunned down is traumatizing,' Chow said. 'But what's encouraging is they maintain their hope that things can change … and they gave us some very concrete things that we can do, one of which is an accessible, safe space for young people to gather, for community to gather. Surely, we could do that.' Pastor Delroy Sherman told Global News Wednesday the shooting should be a wake-up call to tighten gun laws in the country. 'It shouldn't take months or years to change the gun laws. That's what needs to be done in our community,' he said. Demkiw also spoke about justice reform when asked Thursday. 'Frankly, it's complicated, and it's not one stream. We need reform across the system. It's not just about bail, it's also about deterrence, it's also about accountability,' he said. 'We need a proper conversation about all those issues, and take some steps to actually not only hold offenders accountable during the process of trial, but hold them accountable through the sentencing stream.' Pair from Sudbury charged with criminal harassment on Hwy. 17
Ontario Provincial Police were alerted to the incident at 1:55 a.m. by the driver who was threatened. Two suspects from Sudbury have been charged with following and threatening a victim June 1 in West Nipissing. Ontario Provincial Police were alerted to the incident at 1:55 a.m. by the driver who was threatened. 'The driver advised police that two individuals had approached them with knives but was able to flee in a vehicle which was still being followed by the two individuals,' police said in a news release Thursday. 'Police were able to locate the vehicle with the two individuals who brandished the knives and arrested them both. A search of the vehicle located, a club, a prohibited weapon, edged weapons, replica handgun, unmarked cigarettes and drugs suspected to be cocaine and cannabis.' Concealed weapon The suspects, ages 27 and 29, were both charged with criminal harassment. The 29-year-old was also charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession. The 27-year-old was also charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available and possessing unmarked cigarettes. Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 3 in North Bay.
