PhysicsWallah partners with YCMOU to launch online UGC-compliant degree programs
The two institutions are trying to expand access to formal higher education for learners by introducing four programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Arts in English (MA English), and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). These programs are being designed in compliance with UGC/AICTE norms and in alignment with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Courses will follow the UGC-compliant Four-Quadrant MOOC model, with a mix of self-paced learning, online sessions, assessments, and learner support. YCMOU will be responsible for academic approvals, compliance, and degree issuance, while PW is going to manage the technology platform, student engagement, and content delivery.

We attempt to focus on delivering programs that are accessible, compliant, and aligned with industry expectations.'
Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane of YCMOU said, 'This collaboration with PhysicsWallah continues to enhance our digital academic delivery. We are working towards ensuring that learners are receiving flexible education backed by academic rigour and regulatory alignment.'
The partnership is trying to create a digitally inclusive academic model that will try to support learners in pursuing recognised qualifications, regardless of geography or background.

ED probes Anil's RHFL for writing off Rs 7k cr loans to group firms
NEW DELHI: As the ED sifts through voluminous documents and digital records seized from Anil Ambani 's Reliance group entities during searches, which began on July 24 and concluded on Sunday, the agency, in particular, is looking at alleged diversion of Rs 12,000 crore loans by Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL) to various related entities. ED is being assisted in its task by National Financial Reporting Authority, CBI, Security and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) and National Housing Bank, since it involves misappropriation of huge public funds. At least a dozen related entities of the group are currently undergoing insolvency proceedings, which means massive haircuts for banks. Sources said 22 individuals, who are key management personnel and associates of Ambani, have come under the radar of the agency and are being investigated, besides the 60 companies that were covered during the searches lasting over 72 hours. A Sebi investigation report (shared with ED) has highlighted alleged laundering of funds by RHFL, which had written off around Rs 7,000 crore out of the Rs 12,000 crore of loans it had extended to various entities linked to the Anil Ambani group. Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure, in identical statements, said, "The company and all its officials have fully cooperated and will continue to cooperate with the authority". On the alleged diversion of Rs 12,000 crore by RHFL to related entities, a company official said, "The account of RHFL has been fully resolved with change in management pursuant to the judgment of SC in 2023. ..Allegations of other irregularities are sub-judice and as a matter of fact, the Sebi order has been challenged before SAT (Securities Appellate Tribunal) since 2024". "Sebi vide its order dated Aug 22, 2024, has found that RHFL has engaged in a fraudulent scheme to divert funds for the benefit of Ambani and his group companies," a source aware of the probe said. ED is probing related party transactions, in which it was found that Reliance Infrastructure had received funds from Crest Logistics and Engineers Pvt Ltd, which in turn had received funds from at least four entities - RPL Star Power Pvt Ltd, RPL Solar Power Pvt Ltd, Species Trade and Commerce Pvt Ltd and Worldcom Solutions Ltd - all of them allegedly linked to the Anil Ambani group. According to the Sebi investigation report, the forensic audit of RHFL found that "loans of more than Rs 12,000 crore have been extended to various entities which are linked to the Anil Ambani group. These companies had a common registered address, email ID/domain, address and directors". The Sebi report further revealed that as on Sept 30, 2021, Rs 6,931 crore had been declared as NPA/written off by RHFL out of loans extended to linked/associated entities of the group.

India ready to share AI models with Global South: S Krishnan
The Indian government is open to sharing its AI models with the Global South after achieving reasonable capacity and scale, a senior government official said on Friday. While speaking at FICCI's conference Bhashantara 2025, Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said that the development of technology for languages to help people communicate in a frictionless manner can lead to huge value addition to the economy. He said that the UN Under-Secretary-General, during a visit to India, had appreciated India's AI-related works. 'We had a discussion and then he said your model appears interesting. At a stage when you have adequate capacity both in terms of compute and in terms of the kind of models that you have, will you be willing to share this with the Global South? This is something that we have declared that we are open to doing and something that we will do,' Krishnan said. The Global South term refers to developing and less-developed countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America regions. The government has launched the Bhashini project for the development of AI-based language translation technology. Krishnan said most people in the country would prefer to communicate through voice as opposed to in writing. 'I think voice-based communication has a critical role to play and that is where India can truly lead. The minute you say it is voice, then it means that you have to pick it up in the language that they are most comfortable with and what they would like to speak in. This is clearly the challenge that there are a number of researchers, a number of innovators and others who are addressing nationwide,' he said. 'With more than 6 billion people globally not speaking English as their primary language and India home to 19,500 languages and dialects, data emphasised the vast commercial opportunities that lay ahead,' he said. Data said that website names in local scripts will ease communication for the vernacular masses.

Digital recreation of Portuguese Fort at Chaliyam in final stages
Efforts by the Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) to digitally recreate the Portuguese fort at Chaliyam, which was destroyed by the Zamorin's army in the 16th century, are in their final stages. The Chaliyam Fort holds a special place in the history of erstwhile Calicut under the Zamorins. The Portuguese built the fort at the mouth of the Beypore river around 1530, reportedly with the support of local chieftains opposed to the Calicut kingdom. It was constructed at a strategic location to corner the Zamorin, as the structure was just about 10 km from then Calicut city. The Zamorin's attack on the fort in 1571 followed his alliances with Bijapur Sultan Adil Shah and the Nizam Shah of Ahmadnagar for a 'joint enterprise against the Portuguese on the west coast,' writes K.V. Krishna Ayyar in his book Zamorins of Calicut. Official sources said on Sunday (July 27, 2025) that augmented reality (AR) 3D models and software to digitally recreate the Chaliyam Fort for viewers at the beach were ready. 'An interactive signboard will be installed at the site, allowing visitors to access the experience by scanning it with their mobile phones,' they added. 3D model of the fort The AR interface will offer three options— a 3D model of the fort, video descriptions in English and Malayalam detailing its history, and an immersive walkthrough that lets users open the fort's doors using augmented reality. The 3D model was developed by a research team from the State Archaeology Department and Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode, after examining historical records. Mr. Ayyar, quoting from Zainuddin Makhdoom's Thuhfathul Mujahideen, wrote that it was agreed 'Adil Shah should attack Goa, Nizam Shah should march on Chaul, and the Zamorin should proceed against Chaliyam.' The Zamorin's army, consisting of Nairs and Muslims, bombarded the fort and blocked Portuguese reinforcements. Supplies sent by the Portuguese allies in Cochin and Cannanore were intercepted. Ayyar wrote that the Portuguese were 'compelled to devour dogs.' Soon after, the Portuguese captain surrendered. The Zamorin then demolished the fort, 'leaving not one stone upon another.' The Portuguese efforts to control Malabar ended soon after. The Calicut king later rebuilt the Mishkal Mosque at Kuttichira—earlier torched by the Portuguese—using wooden planks taken from the destroyed Chaliyam Fort.
