Manohar Lal, Jitendra Singh review roadmap for 100GW nuclear power goal
At a meeting in Parliament House, the two ministers and senior officials from the Power Ministry and the Department of Atomic Energy reviewed the roadmap to increase India's nuclear energy capacity from the current 8.8 GW to 22 GW by 2032.
The two leaders discussed plans to increase the nuclear power capacity to 49 GW by 2037, scale it up to 67 GW by 2042 and reach the 100 GW target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by 2047.
Singh highlighted the government's landmark initiative to open the nuclear sector for private sector participation, emphasising its pivotal role in strengthening India's energy security.
He said there was a strong and vibrant response from the industry to the Bharat Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme, leading to an extension of the request for proposal (RFP) submission deadline to September 30 to encourage wider participation.
Khattar and Singh outlined several key directives to expedite progress, including streamlining regulatory clearances, investing in technical upgradation and capacity building.
Singh said the government was committed to handholding and creating awareness among private sector players.
India is developing three different types of small modular reactors (SMRs), including one dedicated to the production of hydrogen, mostly in the form of captive plants for energy-intensive industries.
The captive power plants are those facilities which are operated and used by an energy-intensive organisation for its own consumption.
The three types of SMRs 200 MWe Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR), 55 MWe SMR and 5 MWth High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor for the production of hydrogen are being designed and developed indigenously.
Presently, the installed nuclear power capacity in the country comprises 25 reactors with a total capacity of 8,880 MW, including RAPS-1 (100 MW), which is under long-term shutdown.
Two units of Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) with a generation capacity of 700 MWe each and one 700 MWe unit at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP-7) have already commenced commercial operation.
At present, 18 reactors with a total capacity of 13,600 MW, including the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor implemented by BHAVINI, are at various stages of implementation.

Indian Air Force took down 5 fighter jets and 1 large aircraft during Operation Sindoor: Air Marshal AP Singh
In his first official comments over losses inflicted on Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, Indian Air Force Chief Air Marshal AP Singh on Saturday said the Indian Air Force (IAF) took down five fighter jets and one large aircraft during the May 7 operation. Apart from the aircraft, he added, there are a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones, some of whose missiles had fallen in the Indian territory. He said India recovered them alongside other wreckage which is being studied, 'so we can make out what they did, where they were launched from, what route they followed, what kind of systems they had, what generation they belonged to, what kind of features they had, etc.' He also showed the before and after images of the damage caused in Pakistani territory at Bahawalpur – the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). 'There's hardly any collateral (damage) here… The adjacent buildings are fairly intact… Not only did we have satellite pictures, but also from local media, through which we could get inside pictures,' he said. Singh said Indian Air Defence systems have done a wonderful job. 'The S-400 system, which we had recently bought, has been a game-changer. The range of that system has kept their aircraft away from their weapons, like those long-range glide bombs that they have,' he said, adding that they have not been able to use any of those because they have not been able to penetrate the system. The IAF chief also showed that the Shahbaz Jacobabad airfield was one of the major airfields that were attacked. 'Here, there's an F-16 hangar. One half of the hangar is gone. And I'm sure there were some aircraft inside which got damaged there. We were able to get at least two command and control centres, like Murid and Chaklala,' he said. 'At least six radars, some of them big, some of them small…We have an indication of at least one AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) in that AEW&C hangar and a few F-16s, which were under maintenance there… ,' he said.

Operation Sindoor Ends Balakot Doubts With 80-Hour IAF Blow To Pakistan: Air Chief Marshal Reveals
Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh says Operation Sindoor finally 'laid to rest the ghost of Balakot.' Speaking at the LM Katre Memorial Lecture, he revealed how the IAF learned from the 2019 Balakot strike, when India struggled to publicly prove the damage inflicted. This time, against Pakistan, there was no ambiguity. In just 80-90 hours, the IAF crippled Pakistan's air power, shooting down five fighters and a massive AWACS aircraft, and destroying key terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, including the prized Sargodha airbase. Singh credited the success to full political backing, no operational restrictions, and perfect tri-services coordination under the CDS. Using S-400 missiles and precision air raids, India eliminated over 100 terrorists in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.#balakot #opsindoor #iaf #indianairforce #apsingh #indiapakistan #s400 #airdefence #pahalgamattack #defencenews #counterterror #pakistanairforce #indianarmy #airpower #indiadefense #nationalsecurity #surgicalstrike #breakingnews #militarynews #cds #sargodha #breakingnews #trending #trendingnow #toi #bharat #toibharat #indianews
