Anbumani launches padayatra to realise ‘Dr. Ayya's dreams'
Dr. Ramadoss had earlier petitioned the police to restrain his son from taking out the padayatra, alleging that it would cause law and order issues in northern Tamil Nadu.
Beginning his padayatra after offering prayers at the Thiruporur Kandaswamy Temple, Dr. Anbumani garlanded B.R. Ambedkar's statue on the way to a public meeting near the roundabout. He criticised Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for the state of law and order, violence against women, and failure to implement 10.5% internal reservation for the Vanniyars within the MBC category. 'We are seeing a Chief Minister who gives a two-hour call-sheet every day. He comes, someone will say 'action', he will act, and then they will play the video the whole day [on media channels],' he said.
'People are angry and farmers are angry. The women, including girls, are unable to go out. The Chief Minister is responsible for it. For, the Police Department is under his control. Recently, a young girl of Tiruvallur district was sexually assaulted. Such incidents happened at Anna Nagar [in Chennai], Krishnagiri, Pollachi, and Tiruchi. Women are suffering sexual assaults,' he said.
'Government employees and teachers are responsible for the DMK to come to power. They demanded that the old pension scheme be brought back. Seven States have already brought it back. Why can't Tamil Nadu do it? They have constituted a committee. What about the Sridhar Committee? The Shantha Sheela Nair Committee? When the DMK wants to postpone doing something, it will constitute a committee. And just before the election, when the committee submits its findings, it will promise to implement the recommendations after the election. This time, they [the people] can't be fooled,' he said.
According to him, the recently launched 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme had come too late. The PMK had earlier proposed a law to guarantee government services to the people. 'The government has launched 'Ungaludan Stalin' to provide services by organising special camps. What were you doing for four-and-a-half years? The PMK demanded, 15 years ago, that the government pass a law, named 'Right to Services Act'. Had such a law been passed, there would have been no need to hold these camps. This is our right, and it is the duty of the State government to guarantee it,' he said.
Dr. Anbumani said Mr. Stalin claims that he hails from the Delta region, but has no connection with farming. 'Is there one farmer in Tamil Nadu who will say that he is happy? Do you know the agricultural growth in Tamil Nadu? It is -0.12%. If we consider the growth in milk production and fisheries, the growth is -5.68%. What has happened to the election promise that you would give ₹3,500 for a quintal of grain? What has happened to the promise that the government would give ₹5,000 for a tonne of sugar cane? Not a single farmer should vote for the DMK,' he said.

‘DMK uses govt. officials for its propaganda'
'While 'Ungaludin Stalin' programme is apparently a propaganda for the DMK, why should they use government officials for the party's advertisement?,' asked AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Speaking as part of his Makkalai Kappom, Tamizhagathai Meetppom roadshow in Karaikudi on Tuesday, he said Mr. Stalin claimed that 46 problems could be solved, but it was surprising how he learnt about the problems 'so soon' after four years. Everyone knew that Mr. Stalin was good in naming schemes and programmes, but he did not realise that he would not be solving them as he would be defeated in the upcoming election, he added. Criticising the State government's latest announcement that farmers should submit their CIBIL score while procuring loans, Mr. Palaniswami said how a Chief Minister could be so insensitive to issue such an order. 'I had to seek the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the announcement that could hinder planting of crops,' he added. Mr. Palaniswami said another blow to the rural people from the DMK government was the order to seal unlicensed buildings. 'As everyone knows that a villager who owns a vacant land will simply build a house for his family. Even if the government wants to prevent erection of such buildings, why should it do it without alerting them?,' he questioned. By making obtaining licence compulsory for even petty shops the DMK government was paving way for corruption. 'Will any licence be given to the meagre-earning people without any corruption?,' he asked. The DMK was illegally earning ₹5,400 crore a month from Tasmac by selling bottles at an extra price, he noted. Mr. Palaniswami listed out various taxes and wondered if any government would even think of collecting tax for garbage. Stating that the DMK government would go to any extent for its own benefit, he said the ₹1,000 assistance for women was one such self-promoting scheme being implemented. The government had borrowed about ₹5.2 lakh crore in the last four years, even when the revenue had doubled in 2025 when compared to 2021, he added. Terming the DMK government opportunistic, Mr. Palaniswami appealed to the people to vote for the AIADMK alliance to bring an end to the DMK government.

Congress, VCK question Stalin's stand that special law to deal with ‘honour' killing is not required
The ruling DMK's allies including the Congress, VCK and CPI-M along with activists working for the uplift of the Scheduled Castes/Tribes have renewed their call for enacting an exclusive legislation to deal with caste-hatred induced murders that are passed off as 'honour' crimes. Against the backdrop of the murder of Kavin Selvaganesh, a young engineer from Tirunelveli working in a leading IT firm, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste, they have questioned Chief Minister M K Stalin's stand in the Assembly contending such a special law was not required. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, K. Selvaperunthagai, on Tuesday said he does not share the Chief Minister's opinion. 'A separate law against 'honour-related crimes' has to be enacted. The Chief Minister had said in the Assembly that he would use an iron hand to end such murders and there is no need for a separate we don't agree with that opinion. A separate law is in place in few other states. It needs to be passed [in Tamil Nadu]. The laws already in place have not been enough to curtail [such] violence,' he told The Hindu. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, who had positioned himself as the DMK's 'ideological ally' in 'the fight against Sanathana Dharma', in a statement said he was worried to learn of the caste-violence and murders continuing 'unabated' in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts. He underscored his repeated demands to create an intelligence unit within the police force to tackle caste-related crimes have not been heeded to by the State government. 'The Law Commission of India has already create a draft law which has not been passed for several years now,' he said. His party general secretary D. Ravikumar, said the Supreme Court itself in the Shakti Vahini Vs Union Of India case (2018) had batted for such a legislation. 'While directing the Union Government to enact the law, the SC had said what the State Governments should do in the interim. Guidelines were framed and sent to all the Chief Secretaries of the States. SC has given the Law Commission's draft law to the Union Government. Since 2018, we have urged the Union Government to enact a law. State governments have not implemented the SC order. Why?,' he asked. CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam on Tuesday demanded the arrest of the Sub-Inspector parents of the alleged murderer Surjith. 'The continuing spate of violence reiterates the need for a separate law and undercuts the State Government's argument that existing criminal laws are enough to tackle such crimes,' he said. A. Kathir of Evidence, a civil rights organisation, said, 'If existing criminal laws were enough, then why do we need a SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act? Why do we need a separate law against harassment of women? A special law brings attention to crimes against the marginalised. We need a broad law to deal with 'honour' related crimes. If, for instance, a backward caste family murders the young woman in their family instead of the Scheduled Caste youth who she falls in love with, will SC/ST Act apply? What if she is killed for falling in love with another BC man,' he asked.

Final alliance to be announced closer to polls, says Palaniswami
AIADMK and BJP are part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and the BJP is also in alliance with several other parties, said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. 'We still have eight more months. Closer to the elections, we will announce the full list of alliance partners,' said told the media in Tiruchi. He welcomed the Tamil Nadu government's decision to withdraw its alleged controversial circular to PACS mandating CIBIL score checks for farm loans, a move he said came only after he submitted a petition to the Prime Minister. 'Whether in power or not, we will continue to speak for the people,' he said. When asked about his remarks on the 10.5% reservation for Vanniyars in the earlier campaigns in the northern districts, said, 'That issue is over. There is no need to create unnecessary confusion among the public. Let us not blow this out of proportion. The Union government has already taken a clear stand on the matter across India.'
