Azizah calls for detailed review of juvenile offence penalties

By: Noor Zafira Zayn Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: The proposal to review penalties for juvenile offenders should be examined in greater detail, said Sabah Institute for Development Studies (IDS) chairperson Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun ( pic ). She said any legal amendments must be considered carefully, noting that such decisions should be based on a thorough investigation rather than a single case. Azizah was responding to a recent suggestion by the Sabah Consumers Affairs and Protection Society (Caps) to lower the age limit for juvenile offenders from 18 to under 15 in view of the rise in youth-related crime. She stressed that a comprehensive study involving experts and multiple stakeholders is needed to develop the most effective approach in addressing juvenile offences, including bullying in schools, workplaces, and within families. Fire damages house, vehicles in Papar

Firefighters from the Papar station received the emergency call at 2.49pm and arrived at the scene five minutes later. The blaze involved a semi-permanent house measuring about 40 by 40 feet, with nearly the entire structure affected before it was brought under control at 3.09pm. Two cars, a Perodua Kelisa and a Perodua Myvi, were partially damaged in the incident, along with a Honda Dash motorcycle. Ukraine drone attack injures railway worker in Russia's Voronezh
VORONEZH: A Ukrainian drone attack injured a railway worker and damaged a power line at a station in Russia's Voronezh region, the local governor confirmed. Alexander Gusev stated on Telegram that a track technician was hospitalised following the overnight strike. Train services faced delays but resumed normal operations by Sunday morning, according to Gusev. Russia's defence ministry reported intercepting nine drones over Voronezh and 46 nationwide overnight.
