Michigan football's 2026 class grows with 4-star edge rusher Julian Walker
One area where the maize and blue have thrived on the 2026 recruiting trail is in the trenches. The offensive line has a ton of promise with four-stars Malakai Lee, Marky Walbridge, and Bear McWhorter pledged, but defensive line recruiting has been on another level. The Wolverines have five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows, four-star edge McHale Blade, four-star tackles Titan Davis and Alister Vallejo, and three-star edge Tariq Boney committed already. What's one more four-star edge rusher?
Thought to be a strong South Carolina lean due to his father being on the strength staff in Columbia, Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork four-star edge rusher Julian Walker shocked the college football world when he chose Michigan football over the Gamecocks.
Walker visited Ann Arbor for Victors Weekend on June 20 and thus completes the picture he posted emanating from that weekend's photoshoot, featuring him, Tariq Boney, Carter Meadows, and Titan Davis. He was also strongly considering North Carolina and USC, and had offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Syracuse, NC State, Virginia Tech, and others.

Walker possesses great overall size and length that correlates well to the next level as a 3-4 defensive lineman. He has fluid movements to get past the offensive tackle from both inside and outside rushes. Chases the ball with a great motor and can turn and flatten down the line of scrimmage. Plays with reactive quickness and has a counter move. Walker has the strength and toughness to be disruptive against the run and make plays as a true 3-down player. Depending on body type and how he develops, Walker could potentially move inside on passing downs.
Walker is listed at 6-foot-6, 252 pounds and is ranked highest by On3, which has him at No. 136 overall, regardless of position.
The rest of the class
With Walker in the fold, the Wolverines only really have one defensive line target remaining in Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill four-star defensive tackle Deuce Geralds.

Floyd Knob, Indiana will play for Little League Softball World Series title on Sunday
The Floyds Knob Little League Softball team will play for the World Series title Sunday against Pennsylvania or Oklahoma at 3 p.m. on ABC in Greenville, N.C. after beating defending champion North Carolina 2-0 on Saturday. "I knew I had to have (starter Briley Mercer's) back because if I'm not having a good day, she always has mine," reliever Grace Fiore said on the ESPN+ broadcast after getting a strikeout to clinch the victory. Neither team scored through six innings, sending the game to extra innings. Alyvia Kolish started the inning on second base for Indiana and went to third when Sawyer Abel bunted for a single. Abel took second on defensive indifference to eliminate the force and with the North Carolina defense playing back, Scarlett Renn grounded to second, scoring Kolish to make it 1-0. With the North Carolina infield still playing back, Fiore grounded to second to score Abel to make it 2-0. It was an excellent display of smart softball by Indiana as Renn and Fiore were able to hit behind the runners and score the deciding runs. Mercer started and threw 5 shutout innings for Indiana, allowing 4 hits and 3 walks but striking out 5. Fiore took over in the sixth to keep Mercer eligible to pitch on Sunday, allowing one hit and striking out 1 in 2 innings to pick up the win.

Tristan McKee (almost) makes history with win in ARCA Menards Series race at Watkins Glen
Five days after celebrating his 15th birthday, Tristan McKee claimed a victory in his ARCA Menards Series debut Friday, Aug. 8 at Watkins Glen International. McKee, from Kannapolis, North Carolina, held off Tyler Reif on the final lap following a restart to win Friday afternoon's 41-lap General Tire 100 at The Glen on the track's 2.45-mile short course. He became the second-youngest winner in series history, piloting the No. 77 Gainbridge Chevrolet owned by Jeff Dickerson. Todd Gilliland won in the ARCA Series at 15 years and 2 days in 2015 at Toledo Speedway. The minimum age to drive in the series is 15. "I wasn't really worried about the youngest part of it because I knew that Todd had already gotten that," McKee said. "It feels good to be the second youngest." Last month, he secured a Trans-Am 2 triumph at the road course while racing the full 3.4-mile configuration. "It feels good. I'm 2-for-2 now in my career I guess you could say here at this track. I just won the Trans-Am race here the other day, so that felt really good to get this one done as well," McKee said. Brent Crews appeared headed to a runaway win after grabbing the pole earlier in the day and leading the first 39 laps. But his No. 18 JBL Toyota, owned by Joe Gibbs, lost power during the final caution and had to be assisted to the pits. That left an opening for McKee, who scraped the wall near the start/finish line on the final-lap restart as he battled Reif. "We got a little luck, but it's good to have some of that sometimes," McKee said. "On that last restart, I knew I had to get a really good start, and I got into the wall a little bit and had a pretty big tire rub. I was kind of scared going around the rest of the lap, but I'm glad we only had one more lap so we were able to bring it home." McKee credited his team for giving him a car that had good pace. He said he was confident he could have given Crews a battle on the restart if Crews didn't have his issues. Reif finished 1.127 seconds back in second place. Kris Wright took third, Glen Reen fourth and Dale Quarterley fifth. Reif said he was overly focused on McKee on the restart and followed his tire tracks. "I couldn't really keep the nose on the track and kind of got the wall harder than he did," Reif said. "Just really upset at myself, not anybody else. It was a race we could have won, and I should have executed better. It's going to be hard to sleep tonight." Crews was poised for his third win in six starts this season when he saw his car's voltage light turn yellow. He said it was "probably the worst feeling in the world" seeing a race that was his to win slip away. The caution came out after Jason Kitzmiller crashed a few laps earlier. "The second I saw Kitzmiller in the wall there I knew we were probably in trouble," Crews said. Crews ended up ninth. Series points-leader Brenden Queen, who won five of the first 12 events this year, dealt with a mechanical issue from the get-go. Shedeur Sanders confronts reporter after NFL preseason debut vs. Panthers
Shedeur Sanders had time on Friday night – some of it in the pocket, but maybe more of it after the game. In the wake of Sanders' positive debut vs. the Carolina Panthers, the rookie quarterback caught up with Cleveland-based reporter and radio personality Tony Grossi. Sanders appeared to take issue with Grossi's negative slant towards him. In the tunnels of Bank of America Stadium, Sanders addressed Grossi directly, and called out his coverage. And he did it with a smile on: "Tony, I be hoping you have something positive to say about me," Sanders tells Grossi in the video (via Well Off Media). "You only say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, 'I ain't do nothing to you.'" "Come on, what I do? What'd I do to you, Tony?" Sanders kept a smile on throughout the short-lived conversation and he and the reporter shared a little bit of a laugh before the passer headed into the locker room. It's not the first time that Sanders has confronted a perceived detractor in a public setting. In 2024, the then-Colorado Buffaloes quarterback caught up with Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and refused to shake his hand following a 43-35 Colorado victory. Sanders finished 14-of-23 passing with 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns win. He played almost three entire quarters and showcased skill that led some draft analysts to believe he should have been a Day 1 selection. With more performances like he had on Friday night, Sanders may find himself speaking with plenty more critics in the coming weeks, months or years.
