Hackers below 18 have extra difficulty cracking the parental control app, Verizon claims

Growing up with a screen in front of you could be really damaging to your life as a whole, many psychologists argue – and that's why carrier parental control apps are indispensable.
Verizon's app offers an extra layer of security on the two major mobile operating systems, the carrier claims. Verizon Family Plus is "tamper-resistant" on Android and Apple phones and tablets: Android : Protections remain active even after a restart, thanks to secure background processes. With a PIN-based system, only you have the ability to modify the app.

With a PIN-based system, only you have the ability to modify the app. iOS : You'll receive an alert if your child attempts to disable any settings, eliminating the need for manual checks. Unlike many so-called advanced protection features, these tools run silently in the background without affecting battery life. But hardware and software limitations are just one part of the equation here. No app can prevent every possible workaround, but having reliable tools gives you more opportunities to connect with your child rather than constantly correcting them.

That's because even if the parental control app appears to be secure, kids nowadays find workarounds more often than not. As the Verizon blog piece points out, even seasoned tech professionals have admitted that their children have discovered ways to sidestep parental controls. Technology is complex, and kids are naturally curious, resourceful, and often a few steps ahead. Parents also need to talk with their children and explain why phones and tablets are not to be used 24/7 unrestricted. Instead of battling for control, focus on building communication. For kids, parental controls might seem unnecessary or excessive. But this isn't about locking down their phone – it's about creating a shared understanding that the rules are part of how technology is used in the family. You might explain it by saying that having a phone is a responsibility, and part of that responsibility includes keeping the parental controls active. It isn't meant as a punishment – it's simply the way your family chooses to manage technology. The phone remains available as long as the controls remain in place.Children might still look for ways to bypass parental controls, and that's worth discussing as well.
They may be curious about what happens if they delete the app, or they might feel they deserve more privacy. Sometimes, they're just bored and exploring the settings. When you receive an alert that the app has been disabled, it's a good chance to start a conversation. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

Google just made its AI only one tap away on Android

Google Search has been going through a serious transformation lately, and surprise, surprise – it's all about AI. Google has been busy baking AI features into everything, from how results show up to how we interact with them. And now, there is a new update that brings AI even closer to your testing different looks to figure out where to place "AI Mode," Google has now rolled out a homescreen widget shortcut that works on pretty much any Android device. With this, you can instantly jump into AI Mode straight from your home screen – no extra steps you tap it, you get the fullscreen AI prompt screen, just like a normal search but smarter (in theory). This shortcut first showed up back in April for some beta users, then disappeared, then came back… and now it finally looks like it's here to showing up for both beta and stable users running Google app version 16.28 on Android, as a new circular icon next to the voice mic and Google Lens in the updated Search widget. You can choose to bring AI Mode front and center. | Image credit – 9to5Google Setting it up is pretty simple. Just long-press the widget on your homescreen, tap "Customize," and head into the Shortcuts section. "AI Mode" is now right there, second on the list. If you're not using a Pixel phone, this widget might be the quickest way to access AI Mode. But there's a catch: if you're not part of the "AI Mode" Search Lab, things still look like before. You'll see the shortcut as a pill under the Search bar, not part of it – and you'll miss out on the sleeker UI that's rolling out to users in the new Discover feed design, complete with Search Live access. Old vs new look. | Image credit – 9to5Google There's actually a lot going on with Search lately. Google now lets you dig deeper using AI Overview with a set of three handy follow-up buttons. It can even make phone calls to businesses on your behalf and handle deep research tasks. The new "Search Live" feature is rolling out too, letting you speak casually and get real-time answers. And AI Mode is also expanding to Circle to Search, bringing gaming support and upgraded visuals. Basically, Google's AI is everywhere in Search now – and it's not slowing down. On top of that, the company is also testing a new way to organize results into categories, which could seriously change how we find things online. But while all this sounds great for saving time, I believe there's a flip side. With AI constantly trying to predict what we want, there's a risk we might stop exploring, stop learning new things, and miss out on results we didn't know we needed. It's a shiny new era for Search – but whether it makes us smarter or just more efficient… well, that part's still up in the air.
