Gossip Girl veteran Leighton Meester is grieving over the death of her former co-star and close friend, Michelle Trachtenberg, who unfortunately died earlier this year at 39. "It's devastating," Meester said. "She was an incredible, talented woman, and everybody adored her. It's very, very sad for everybody who knew her." The actress, who played the tough and fashion-conscious Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, said the news was especially difficult because they were the same age when Trachtenberg passed away. "It really makes you stop and think," she said.
Michelle Trachtenberg, who was most famous for playing the troublemaker Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl and Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was discovered dead in a New York City apartment on February 26.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner subsequently confirmed that her death was due to complications from diabetes mellitus, and her death was determined to be natural.
Meester also accepted the enduring impact of Gossip Girl, remarking, "Now, I can see that [the show's legacy] continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible." The CW series, which broadcast from 2007 to 2012, has had a strong cultural presence, and the tight-knit cast created a connection that has lasted long past the last episode's broadcast.
In the wake of confirmation of Trachtenberg's death, there was an outpouring of condolences from some of her former co-stars, including Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, and Chace Crawford. Badgley remembered her warmth and her effervescent nature: "What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh. She was really joyous.". We all have our ups and downs, our lights and shadows, but she had this — I mean, she was mature, but she had this childlike, joyous laugh.

Though Badgley admitted he hadn't seen Trachtenberg in over a decade, he remembered her fondly, describing her as having a 'really pure heart.'
Michelle Trachtenberg's sudden passing left a deep footprint on the Gossip Girl household and her admirers worldwide. While the entertainment world keeps rejoicing over her legacy and efforts, those around her, including Meester, remind us of the depth, talent, and light she illuminated in their world.

Blake Lively ‘begging' Taylor Swift to ‘mend' their friendship after Justin Baldoni subpoena: Report

Amid the rumoured tensions between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift, a new report reveals that the Gossip Girl star is 'begging' the pop singer to become friends once again. The 35-year-old singer allegedly cut ties with A Simple Favor actress after being dragged into her legal battle with Justin Baldoni. However, the 37-year-old actress has tirelessly been reaching out to the Midnights hitmaker, according to Daily Mail. 'Even though Taylor has totally cut ties with her, Blake hasn't with Taylor,' a source told the outlet. 'She's been reaching out to her with texts, voicemails and even emails, begging to mend what they once had. Blake isn't giving up on trying to get her friendship with Taylor back on track.' Despite the constant messages and voicemails, Swift 'hasn't responded to any of Blake's pleas' and has 'ignored all her groveling excuses.' 'The missives explain there must be some misunderstanding on Taylor's part and that she'd never do anything to harm their 10 years of closeness and personal secrets,' the source added. Swift and Lively are allegedly no longer on speaking terms after the former was name-dropped in Baldoni's $400 defamation lawsuit against the latter and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. The 41-year-old claimed that his co-star used the singer's influence, referring to her as her 'dragon' to assert dominance. 'The message could not have been clearer. Baldoni was not just dealing with Lively. He was also facing Lively's 'dragons,' two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world, who were not afraid to make things very difficult for him,' the lawsuit said, per Page Six. As a result, Baldoni's legal team subpoenaed Swift to testify as a witness in his and Lively's March 2026 trial. While the subpoena was dismissed weeks later, it damaged the Age of Adaline star's friendship with the Lavender Haze singer. According to a previous report by the outlet, Swift felt 'used' and 'doesn't appreciate being referred to as one of Blake's dragons.'

Thug Life Bookings: Tamil Government gives permission for special shows, last to end at 2 AM

Mani Ratnam's Thug Life stirred controversy after it was banned from screening throughout Karnataka. This occurred after one of Kamal Haasan's statements at the pre-release event hurt the sentiments of Kannada-speaking people. And now, with just a day left for release, the film has been granted permission to hold special shows in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu government allows special morning shows for Thug Life As per the latest directive issued by the Tamil Nadu government, a total of five special shows have been allowed to be screened early morning, from 9 AM and running till 2 AM the next day. This change came forth after a special request was made by the CEO of the production house of the film, Raaj Kamal Films International. The move has further buzzed excitement among fans who are all set to watch the gangster action thriller on the big screen. Kamal Haasan agreed to stall Thug Life's screening in Karnataka After the ban from KFCC, Kamal Haasan moved to the High Court, pleading for better judgement and security. Moreover, he even issued a written statement where he articulated how wrongly his statements were interpreted. However, since his letter did not have any trace of apology as demanded by the KFCC, the Court simply upheld that the two parties must have a conversation before the film would get screening rights in Karnataka. As a result, the Tamil senior actor also agreed and stated that his film wouldn't be screened entirely all over Karnataka until both parties had a dialogue and sorted out the issues. Why did Kamal Haasan upset Kannada-speaking people? The bone of contention between the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and Haasan sparked after the latter said that Kannada was born out of Tamil. This comment left many surprised, with many believing it belittled another ancient language.

Pankaj Tripathi reveals if he is part of Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life amid row. Here's what actor has to say

Actor Pankaj Tripathi has reacted to a question on whether he is part of Thug Life amid a row following Kamal Haasan's recent statement. When India Today asked Pankaj about his experience working with Kamal, he refuted being part of the film. (Also Read | Karnataka HC adjourns Kamal Haasan's Thug Life release to June 10, notes actor's letter did not have the word 'apology') Pankaj Tripathi called the rumours false, adding that it is a brainchild of the internet. The actor said, "Yeh jhooti khabar hai, yeh satya nahi hail. Yeh internet dwara paida ki hui khabar hai. Haan ji, main nahi kar raha hoon (This is false news, it's not true. It's a rumour born on the internet)." However, Pankaj is open to working in South films provided that the language is Hindi. The actor said that when he speaks the lines, he should know the language. 'Kyunki main gaya tha ek baar Telugu film karne. Aur jab main 'ABCD' bolne mein... mujhe bahut asahajta hoti hai. Ki line samajhni chahiye, ki main jo bol raha hoon. Toh main chahta hoon karun, lekin character Hindi-speaking taki mere abhinay mein sahajata rahe (I once went to do a Telugu film, and when I had to say even simple lines like 'ABCD', I felt very uncomfortable. I need to understand the meaning of what I'm saying, and I want my character to be Hindi-speaking so that my performance can feel natural and effortless)," he added. Thug Life found itself in a controversy after Kamal made "Kannada was born out of Tamil" remark. On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court rapped the actor for refusing to apologise for the comment while hearing a plea seeking protection for release of his movie Thug Life in the state. The movie will not be released in Karnataka on June 5, the scheduled date for the pan-India release, its producers told the court, following which it postponed the hearing to June 10. Kamal had said that his statement was misunderstood and that his words were taken out of context. Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, also stars Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles. Pankaj will be next seen in Metro In Dino helmed by Anurag Basu. Backed by producer Bhushan Kumar, the film introduces a world of modern love and relationships. The film also features Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta and Saswata Chatterjee. The film is set to release on July 4. with PTI inputs
