Blue's Clue star hints his salary was less than an average waiter... 23 years after he left show
'Every waiter I ever knew made more money than I did for the first many seasons of that show,' the 51-year-old Young Sheldon actor revealed on Rainn Wilson's Soul Boom podcast last Thursday.
'But I was really fortunate because my real gig - Blue's Clues was my side hustle forever - was I was a voice-over guy. I fell into that early so I was doing kind of voiceover stuff for commercials, which kind of sustained me but, man, it was it was grim for a long time.'
At the time, Steve - who suffered from clinical depression - was living 'in a hallway [in Manhattan]. I built like a little shelf in a hallway between two tiny bedrooms.'
Nick Jr. reportedly only gave Blue's Clues creators Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler, and Angela C. Santomero $150K to produce the 1994 pilot - about a quarter of the budget for other shows at the time.
They were initially looking for a female host, but Burns was the best candidate after over 1K auditions despite him having long hair and an earring at the time.
'I had an audition for what I thought was going to be the voice of a cartoon on a children's television show,' the preschool presenter recalled.
'And when I got there, there was a camera in the room, and I thought, "Oh s***, I better do something. And so I looked at the script, and I figured...I'm going to act the s*** out of this.'
Steve was a natural - charming the young millennials and their parents alike as a fictionalized version of himself for six years, shooting nearly 100 episodes.
In 2001, Burns announced his exit before being nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding performer in a children's series, which ultimately went to Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton.
The Mighty Little Man singer was replaced by actor Donovan Patton, who played Steve's brother Joe for the final two seasons until Blue's Clues concluded in 2006.
Josh Dela Cruz, who plays the cousin of Steve and Joe, currently hosts Traci Paige Johnson and Angela C. Santomero's revival Blue's Clues & You! now in its fifth season on YouTube.
Steve served as a consulting producer for the revival until 2022, and even directed five episodes.
Since 2021, Burns has been reconnecting with fans through his 4.3M TikTok/Instagram following as well as attending numerous conventions.
The New York-based Pennsylvanian, Donovan Patton, and Josh Dela Cruz are all scheduled to appear at Motor City Comic Con 2025 taking place May 16-18 in Novi, MI where photos and autographs cost between $50-$200.

Derek Carr returns to football in new role three months after New Orleans Saints QB retired at age 34
Derek Carr is back involved with the NFL, only three months removed from his shocking retirement from football as part of YouTube 's inaugural league broadcast in a few weeks. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback will be an in-studio analyst for the second game of the NFL season between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Carr will be based in California for the game, and not in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the NFL has journeyed for the second straight year. The 34-year-old officially retired on May 10 due to a labral tear and 'significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.' Playing through the injury and surgery were also considered as options for the longtime NFL quarterback before he decided to step away from his playing career. Also in the Los Angeles-based studio for pre-game analysis will be former NFLers Brandon Marhsall and Tyrann Mathieu, as well as Peter Overzet. In the booth for Chargers-Chiefs will be Rich Eisen on play-by-play commentary, alongside former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner as the game analyst. Terry McAulay will be the rules analyst, with Rene Giraldo and Edgar Lopez handling the Spanish commentary. On the sidelines for the game will be YouTube creator Deestroying, combining with the website that helped make him famous in this venture into the NFL, as well as commentator Stacey Dales. Kay Adams and Cam Newton will be the lead analysts to make the trek to Brazil for pregame and postgame talk. Dales and Deestroying will also join the duo after the AFC West battle wraps up. The game will kick off on Sept. 5 at 8 pm with no subscription required. It will also be available on YouTube TV in the United States. Carr played for 11 seasons in the NFL, with his first nine coming with the Raiders before signing with the Saints.

Sidemen's 'best guest ever' is YouTuber with 1.5million followers and Tourette's
The popular YouTubers included a special guest who proved very popular Sidemen's 'best guest ever' has been declared by fans and they are a YouTuber with millions of followers and Tourette's syndrome. The online group of content creators and influencers shared their most recent video in their regular Sunday slot and it included an immediate favourite amongst viewers. This week, the video dropped was a new edition of 20 vs 2, which included mostly women coming face to face with a couple of Sidemen. In a voiceover introducing the video, which ran for more than an hour and 20 minutes in total, KSI says: "Welcome to 20 vs 2. We have two Americans, Marlon and Lacy. They will both have to agree which of the 20 girls they would like to say yes and no to." If the duo both said yes to a girl, they would take part in the next section of the video. This would be in the form of an impromptu date. However, the girl chooses who of the two they would rather go on a date with. While this happens, six others watch on including Josh, Harry, Vik, KSI, Tobi, Ethan and Simon. Each of them have the opportunity to tell Marlon and Lacy what to do like mini challenges. Whether it be how they act or what they say. One person that was involved in both segments on the video and was popular with the Sidemen and viewers alike during her appearance was 35-year-old Anita. It turns out she is a major online personality in her own right, known as Sweet Anita. She has around 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube and claims to have more than 4 million followers across all her social channels. This includes Twitch, X, Instagram and Facebook. Anita herself commented on the video, thanking for the invitation to be involved in the Sidemen's video. In her post she said: "Lacy was such a good boy! Thanks for having me." It didn't go unnoticed by fans who were quick to reply themselves. It received the most interactions of any comment with more than 200 replies and 27,000 thousand likes. Many responded to tell Anita that they were their favourite guest. One person said: "You're iconic." A second simply stated: "Best 20v1 guest ever." Another added: "I love your vibe and energy, you're so unique." while a different account replied: "Anita , you made the vid, hilarious." Anita also has Tourette's. She has regularly shared clips and videos talking about her experiences of her condition and how it impacts her life on YouTube and on her social pages.

My Festival Sam Kissajukian
Six months, 300 paintings, one man's mental state. We caught up with Sam Kissajukian ahead of the Fringe show that documents them all. Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... There are thousands of shows in Edinburgh this month. Please tell us why we should come and see yours. It's actually really tough because there are five other shows at Summerhall about a guy who made 300 paintings in a cake factory during a six-month manic episode. Who or what was the biggest inspiration for your show? Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The late Richard Artschwager, a New York artist who did the most unlikely variety of mediums. His exhibitions were equal measure incredible and frustrating. Who or what are you most excited about seeing this year? Maddie and Marina Bye's show Siblings: Dreamweavers. I've seen it twice. I'm going again. Funniest show I've seen to date. It genuinely makes me happy. Who do you most like spending time with in Edinburgh? Any performer after they've had a technical disaster show. It's very bonding to be around someone who's had their dreams temporarily crushed by QLab. What is the best review you've had? And the worst? There's a guy who has a YouTube channel where he reviews shows and decides whether they are boring or confusing. He said my show was boring but not confusing. I just love the idea of someone detailing their six-month manic episode and you just yell 'BORING!'. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What will we learn from your show that we didn't know before? Before what? Who's we? And what don't you know? I'm very confused. But not bored. Tell us something about you that would surprise people. When I was 17, I was ranked first in Australia at Magic: The Gathering. I won a bunch of money and wanted to turn pro. My parents forbade it and made me go to university. Joke's on them, eight years at university and now I do finger paintings. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at a festival? A wonderful gentleman offered to show me his kaleidoscope collection. Outside of performing, I spend most of my time painting alone in the dark. So, at the festival, I enjoy meeting everyone and stealing energy from upbeat performers. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What's the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night? This festival, I had two evicted clowns crashing in my living room. They had a show at midnight and mine was midday. So, I asked when they came in late if they could be quiet. They made a game of it, they told me they spent all day practising how to be silent: lowering water from the sink tap by hand and moving slowly without raising their feet. At night, I could hear them sliding around the apartment giggling and shooshing each other. It made me feel like a curmudgeon. So, I tied a bunch of bottles to a string that went across the hallway to the door handle. When they came in that night, the bottles clanged and I gave a good 'Shhhhhhhhh!'. Thanks for the interview! We'd like to buy you a drink. Where are we going and what are we drinking? Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad I was quite touched by this offer, but then I found out that you've been asking all the other performers the same question Sam Kissajukian's show 300 Paintings is at Summerhall, 12:05pm, until 25 August. An accompanying exhibition, Paintings to Sleep On, is also on show in Summerhall's In Vitro Gallery.
