Malaysia Leads Southeast Asia in FDI and Tourism in 2025
MELAKA: The government will explore ways to shift the mindset of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students towards becoming technopreneurs in the future, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said that TVET offers promising opportunities in the entrepreneurship sector, and government support is essential to realise this potential.
'We are grateful for the growing trust of parents (in TVET) today. Therefore, we must find new ways to nurture and transform the mindset of TVET students into future technopreneurs,' he said.
According to him, to date, TVET institutions under Majlis Amanah Mara (MARA) have produced 50 TVET millionaires, with the most notable success being entrepreneurs behind the car and motorcycle battery brand, Bateriku.com.
Ahmad Zahid said this when speaking at the opening of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day Celebration 2025 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh here today.
Also present was Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Ahmad Zahid said that as Malaysia moves towards becoming a developed nation, the involvement of all parties in driving the country's progress must be coordinated, especially to help groups that are often seen as marginalised within the country's education system.
'The National TVET Council has taken the responsibility to recruit huffaz students to join TVET so that their future can be better secured,' he said.
He cited examples of this success, among them, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) which has enrolled huffaz students to study at its Faculty of Aerospace and the Faculty of Maritime Affairs, as well as Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), which currently has 550 huffaz who have memorised all 30 juzuk of the Quran, pursuing engineering programmes.
'Alhamdulillah, the response has been quite good (from the huffaz) and we welcome the mudir and tahfiz teachers to build the country by putting the future without compromise.. These students continue to memorise the Quran, while at the same time preparing to become engineers,' he said.

Local Fishermen Should Benefit From BDIFIP Project
BAGAN DATUK, June 14 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for deep-sea resource harvesting licences under the Bagan Datuk International Fishery Industrial Park (BDIFIP) to be awarded to local communities, especially those from Perak. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the Fisheries Department could work with Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) to identify potential local operators who could be granted licences under the RM2 billion project. The Bagan Datuk MP added that he would work with financial institutions to ensure eligible fishermen receive assistance or loans, thereby ensuring that the benefits of the project are shared fairly between foreign investors and the local community. 'This is how we create balance, so that Malaysians, especially those in Perak, are not left with just low-paying jobs of RM1,700, watching others benefit from the project,' he said at the BDIFIP pre-launch ceremony here today. He also expressed hope that local workers at BDIFIP would not be paid minimum wages while foreign investors offer significantly higher salaries for similar roles in their home countries. 'Do not exploit the hard work of our local youth. Fair wages must be ensured, especially for those with skills and the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM). 'I will personally monitor the progress of this industrial zone and ensure all timelines are fully met,' he said. At the event, Ahmad Zahid also witnessed the exchange of an agreement between MB Inc. Perak and Younchang Engineering & Construction (M) Sdn Bhd, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between Younchang Engineering and MingCheng Group Co Ltd, paving the way for broader international collaboration in the project's investment ecosystem. Earlier, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the BDIFIP project, involving investments of more than RM2 billion, will be developed in phases starting in 2027 across a 126.4-hectare site. RM30 Million Fund To Boost Media's Digital Transformation
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The RM30 million allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for digital transformation will help media organisations adapt to the evolving media landscape, particularly in facing challenges posed by social media and meeting the expectations of the new generation, especially Gen Z. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the fund is one of the largest in the country's journalism history and aims to strengthen the digital capabilities of local media organisations. 'This may be one of the largest allocations ever provided for the media — RM30 million. 'We hope this fund will help media organisations navigate the ongoing changes, especially the emergence of social media and the preferences of new readers and viewers, particularly Gen Z,' he told a press conference after the HAWANA 2025 highlight event at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today. Themed "Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics", the event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by about 1,000 media practitioners from Malaysia and abroad. Tekun Disburses RM23 Mln In Financing To Indian Entrepreneurs As Of May 1
IPOH, June 14 (Bernama) -- The National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN Nasional) has disbursed RM23 million in financing to 879 Indian entrepreneurs across the country as of May 1 this year. Senior private secretary to Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, Datuk B. Anbumani, said the government provided the allocation under the SPUMI (Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme) Goes Big financing scheme, benefiting 137 recipients, adding that another 742 Indian entrepreneurs received funding through the TEKUN SPUMI scheme. 'In addition to TEKUN financing, many other initiatives under the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) have been rolled out this year, aimed at boosting the economic development of the Indian community. 'Therefore, the Indian community must make the most of the platforms provided by the government, as their economic well-being is crucial. KUSKOP remains committed to supporting Indian entrepreneurs by offering various financing opportunities to help them grow their businesses,' he said. He said this today on behalf of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, after the Vanakam MADANI engagement session with Perak Indian entrepreneurs here.
