Video: Man Tears Apart Month-Old Road By Hand In Maharashtra's Nanded
A video that is swiftly going viral shows a man sitting in the middle of a stretch of a road in Nanded district's Biloli Taluka and attempting to pull out a portion of it with his bare hands. Amazingly, the surface of the road starts coming apart with very little effort, and he keeps pulling out more and more chunks of asphalt, exposing a layer of stones underneath.
The road, between Dugaon in Nashik district and Dongargaon in Pune district, was constructed a month ago and potholes began appearing just days later.
Local residents said very little asphalt was used on the road and the layer beneath it had also not been prepared properly.
In the video, the man pulls out at least four feet of the asphalt layer, complaining all the while about the poor construction quality. Local residents have also demanded action against the contractor.
In a similar incident in the state's Jalna district in 2023, villagers 'lifted' the top layer of a newly constructed road with their hands, exposing a cloth underneath.
Last month, a road in Bihar had also made headlines because it was built around tall trees, giving rise to a real-life obstacle course.
The road in Jehanabad, about 50 km from Patna, was constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore and, local residents said many accidents have taken place because of the trees. The district administration had been denied permission to cut the trees and decided to build the road around them.

Illegal sand mining rampant in Raj amid lack of legal mines
1 2 Jaipur: Illegal sand mining continues unabated across Rajasthan, largely due to the acute shortage of legally operational sand mines. The sand mafia has entrenched itself in several districts, with Bhilwara, Tonk, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Jalore, Balotra, and Beawar among the worst affected. The issue was prominently raised during a recent review meeting chaired by the chief minister, where the growing threat of unchecked illegal mining was discussed. A mining official said, "Continuous action is being taken from time to time to discourage the practice. While the police are conducting raids and seizing vehicles involved in these operations, the mining department is also actively inspecting sites and imposing penalties. Efforts are ongoing to allot mining blocks." The mines department initiates action across all categories of mineral violations, while the police largely focus on illegal sand extraction. According to official records, Bhilwara reported 325 cases with 412 vehicles seized, followed by Tonk with 312 cases and 314 vehicles. Dholpur registered 169 cases with 223 vehicle seizures, Sawai Madhopur 122 cases and 164 vehicles, Karauli 68 cases and 119 vehicles, Jalore 108 cases and 132 vehicles, Balotra 60 cases and 115 vehicles, and Beawar 47 cases with 112 vehicles seized in connection with illegal sand mining. In a parallel crackdown, the mines department registered 677 cases of illegal sand mining across the state this year. Of these, 129 resulted in FIRs. The department seized 626 vehicles, arrested 65 individuals, and recovered penalties totalling Rs 5 police registered 1,953 cases so far this year, but investigations in nearly 1,002 of them remain incomplete. According to official data, final reports (FR) were submitted in 25 cases, effectively closing them, while charge sheets were filed in 926 cases. A total of 2,749 vehicles were seized during enforcement actions. Sources said the absence of environmental clearance (EC) stalled operations in many auctioned mines, severely disrupting sand supply. Currently, only eight mining leases are operational. A senior official added, "At present, sand mining is completely banned due to the monsoon season. However, directions have been issued to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) to expedite the clearance process during this time, as further delays could fuel illegal mining once operations resume."

CM to launch new med facilities, expansion projects at KGMU
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will dedicate several major healthcare facilities at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Monday. The initiatives include the inauguration of new multi-storey building at Lari Cardiology Centre, launch of Superspecialty Centre for Orthopaedics, foundation stone laying for a 500-bed Trauma-II facility and the new general surgery block. "These new facilities will enhance KGMU's capacity to serve patients not only from the city but across UP and neighbouring states. With expanded cardiology and trauma care, along with advanced orthopaedic and surgical units, we are moving closer to our goal of delivering world-class, affordable healthcare under one roof," said KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand. Spokesperson KK Singh said the new 10-storey cardiology building would increase bed capacity from 84 to 176, providing relief to heart patients. It includes two cath labs, six floors for admissions, and four-level underground parking. He added that the newly built eight-storey Super Speciality Centre for Orthopaedics, constructed at a cost of Rs 86 crore, would offer consultation, diagnosis, and treatment under one roof. The facility houses 340 beds, including 24 private and 24 ICU beds, eight operation theatres, eight OPD rooms, departments of orthopaedic surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine, and a bone bank. It also has radiodiagnosis, pathology labs, CT scan, x-ray machines, an HRF counter for affordable medicines, and modern services like knee and hip replacements. The CM will lay the foundation for a 500-bed Trauma-2 Centre at a cost of Rs 296 crore. The current 466-bed centre is overburdened, forcing patients to turn to private hospitals. The new centre will include a patient utility complex. The CM will lay the foundation for a seven-storey general surgery department with 300 beds, robotic surgery, and 10 operation theatres (Rs 378 crore), a new administrative block (Rs 48 crore), a diagnostic centre and PRA facility block (Rs 48 crore), and expansion of the new guest house.
