Lucknow: Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
will dedicate several major healthcare facilities at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Monday.
The initiatives include the inauguration of new multi-storey building at Lari Cardiology Centre, launch of Superspecialty Centre for Orthopaedics, foundation stone laying for a 500-bed Trauma-II facility and the new general surgery block.
"These new facilities will enhance KGMU's capacity to serve patients not only from the city but across UP and neighbouring states. With expanded cardiology and trauma care, along with advanced orthopaedic and surgical units, we are moving closer to our goal of delivering world-class, affordable healthcare under one roof," said KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand.
Spokesperson KK Singh said the new 10-storey cardiology building would increase bed capacity from 84 to 176, providing relief to heart patients.
It includes two cath labs, six floors for admissions, and four-level underground parking.
He added that the newly built eight-storey Super Speciality Centre for Orthopaedics, constructed at a cost of Rs 86 crore, would offer consultation, diagnosis, and treatment under one roof.
The facility houses 340 beds, including 24 private and 24 ICU beds, eight operation theatres, eight OPD rooms, departments of orthopaedic surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine, and a bone bank.
It also has radiodiagnosis, pathology labs, CT scan, x-ray machines, an HRF counter for affordable medicines, and modern services like knee and hip replacements.
The CM will lay the foundation for a 500-bed Trauma-2 Centre at a cost of Rs 296 crore. The current 466-bed centre is overburdened, forcing patients to turn to private hospitals. The new centre will include a patient utility complex.
The CM will lay the foundation for a seven-storey general surgery department with 300 beds, robotic surgery, and 10 operation theatres (Rs 378 crore), a new administrative block (Rs 48 crore), a diagnostic centre and PRA facility block (Rs 48 crore), and expansion of the new guest house.

Another masterstroke by Gautam Adani Gautam Adani announces healthcare sector move: In a massive step towards improving multidisciplinary healthcare ecosystem in India, Billionaire Gautam Adani on Friday revealed plans to build an AI-first, multidisciplinary healthcare ecosystem that integrates affordability, scalability, and global best practices, as he shared his vision for transforming healthcare in India. As per a report covered by PTI news agency, Gautam Adani called for a complete system-wide redesign to meet the needs of the future while he was speaking at the 5th Annual Conference of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery – Asia Pacific (SMISS-AP). Adani, who heads ports-to-energy conglomerate, said three years ago, on his 60th birthday, his family pledged Rs 60,000 crore towards healthcare, education, and skill development. Why Gautam Adani is entering Healthcare sector? 'We did not enter healthcare because it lacked momentum. We entered because the momentum was not enough,' Gautam Adani said. 'The pace of change was out of step with the urgency of future demands. As the landscape unfolded, one truth stood out – healthcare does not need incremental upgrades. It needs a system-wide redesign. Not an evolution but a revolution rooted in intelligence as well as empathy.' Why Adani highlighted low back pain issue? Gautam Adani Citing highlighted the low back pain as a leading cause of disability in India. Saying that the back pain issue is a crisis more widespread than diabetes or heart disease – he said: 'If we are to carry the full weight of our national ambition, we must first heal the spine of our people.' Referring to the previously announced Adani Healthcare Temples – large, 1,000-bed integrated medical campuses to be established first in Ahmedabad and Mumbai – Adani said they would be 'world-class, affordable, AI-first healthcare ecosystems' and would comprise 'modular, scalable infrastructure of the kind that can expand rapidly in the face of pandemics or emergencies.' Billionaire Adani also urged the assembled global gathering of spine surgeons and specialists to become not only medical leaders but nation-builders. (With inputs from agencies)

Cashless treatment under RGHS to halt from July 15 as private hospitals protest over unpaid dues

JAIPUR: Private hospitals across Rajasthan are set to suspend cashless treatment under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) from Tuesday, affecting lakhs of government employees, pensioners, and their families. The decision comes after months of non-payment from the state government, with dues totalling approximately Rs 980 crore. Hospital administrators claim they can no longer sustain operations without receiving pending reimbursements, despite repeated appeals and warnings to the government. On Sunday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) convened a meeting in which representatives from private, corporate, and charitable hospitals discussed the financial crisis and challenges they face under RGHS. The Rajasthan Alliance of Hospital Associations submitted a memorandum to the state government proposing urgent reforms to save the scheme. These included immediate payment of dues, a 45-day fixed payment cycle, simpler documentation, reactivation of the TMS portal, formal recognition of an advisory committee, and long-term structural improvements. Dr. Vijay Kapoor, president of the Private Hospitals Association, said nearly 1,000 private hospitals have not been paid under the scheme for over seven months. He stated that while the hospitals never intended to enter into conflict with the government, the lack of dialogue and delay in payments have left them with no choice but to halt cashless services starting Tuesday. The RGHS was originally launched in June 2018 during the Vasundhara Raje government and was revived in 2021 by the Ashok Gehlot-led administration.

Gujarat government releases Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia after widow of Home Guard jawan who died of Covid moves HC

The state government has released Rs 25 lakh as ex-gratia compensation to the widow of a Home Guard jawan, who was involved in the duty of enforcing lockdown in Ahmedabad city in 2021, and died of Covid-19, after she moved a petition before the Gujarat High Court. The woman had moved court after her representation seeking the ex-gratia amount under a policy of the state government was not considered. As the government released the compensation amount, the woman withdrew her petition before HC on July 10. According to the details available, Mahendra Singh Bhati, a resident of Krishnanagar in Naroda area of Ahmedabad, was deployed by Ahmedabad city police to enforce lockdown at various points during the Covid pandemic. The Naroda police station authorities had also issued him a certificate acknowledging that Bhati discharged duties in night shifts to enforce the lockdown. The last day he discharged duties was on April 6, 2021. The next day, as his condition deteriorated, Bhati underwent an RTPCR test and was diagnosed with Covid-19. Later, he was transferred to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital where he died in the course of his treatment on April 11, 2021. Subsequently, Bhati's wife Sneha approached the state authorities seeking compensation as per the policy of the Gujarat government mentioned in a government resolution dated March 31, 2020 whereby employees, including Home Guards, if expire of Covid-19 while contracting the infection during discharge of duty then their legal heirs would be entitled to ex gratia benefit of Rs 25 lakhs. When she did not get the compensation, Sneha made a formal representation on September 20, 2023. However, after not getting any response from the state authorities, she moved a petition before HC through advocate Ratna Vora. Among other things, Sneha had also stated that her husband was the sole bread earner of the family and that she has children pursuing education. Following the petition, HC had issued notices to the state authorities, ordering them to take an appropriate decision on Sneha's representation. In April 2025, the Home department of Gujarat government paid the financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to Sneha. Speaking with The Indian Express, Sneha's counsel Vora said, 'Following our petition, the state government has paid the compensation amount to the widow of the Home Guard. So, we withdrew the petition last week.' With this, the petition was disposed of by the HC.
