Gautam Adani announces healthcare sector move: In a massive step towards improving multidisciplinary healthcare ecosystem in India, Billionaire Gautam Adani on Friday revealed plans to build an AI-first, multidisciplinary healthcare ecosystem that integrates affordability, scalability, and global best practices, as he shared his vision for transforming healthcare in India.
As per a report covered by PTI news agency, Gautam Adani called for a complete system-wide redesign to meet the needs of the future while he was speaking at the 5th Annual Conference of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery – Asia Pacific (SMISS-AP).
Adani, who heads ports-to-energy conglomerate, said three years ago, on his 60th birthday, his family pledged Rs 60,000 crore towards healthcare, education, and skill development. Why Gautam Adani is entering Healthcare sector?
'We did not enter healthcare because it lacked momentum. We entered because the momentum was not enough,' Gautam Adani said.
'The pace of change was out of step with the urgency of future demands. As the landscape unfolded, one truth stood out – healthcare does not need incremental upgrades. Referring to the previously announced Adani Healthcare Temples – large, 1,000-bed integrated medical campuses to be established first in Ahmedabad and Mumbai – Adani said they would be 'world-class, affordable, AI-first healthcare ecosystems' and would comprise 'modular, scalable infrastructure of the kind that can expand rapidly in the face of pandemics or emergencies.'
Billionaire Adani also urged the assembled global gathering of spine surgeons and specialists to become not only medical leaders but nation-builders.

Aarthi Scans to invest Rs 350 crore, expand strongly in North India by 2030
Chennai-based Aarthi Scans and Labs, a leading diagnostic imaging services provider in South India, is preparing to aggressively expand its presence in the North Indian market. The company plans to add 90 per cent of its upcoming centres in the region by 2030. As part of this expansion, it will invest around Rs 350 crore to increase its total number of branches from 85 to around 150 over the next five years. Now in its 25th year of operations, Aarthi Scans is also planning to launch an initial public offering (IPO) within the next three years. Simultaneously, the company is preparing to foray into the fitness diagnostics segment to cater to a wider audience. 'We are planning our IPO in the next three years. Every year, we are clocking a growth of around 20 per cent. In FY25, our turnover was around Rs 320 crore, which is slated to cross Rs 375 crore during the current financial year,' said V Govindarajan, founder of Aarthi Scans and Labs. The company has set a target of achieving a turnover of Rs 600 crore in the next four to five years. Pan-India footprint with a northern focus Aarthi Scans currently operates 85 branches and 150 collection centres across 18 cities in 11 states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Haryana. Around 25 branches are located in Chennai alone, with 18 clustered in and around the city. 'Our aim is to add an average of around 10 branches every year. Within three months, we will be starting operations in Uttar Pradesh as well. Of the total branch expansions in the next five years, 90 per cent will be in North India,' Govindarajan said. From outpatient clinic to diagnostic leader Govindarajan entered the healthcare sector in the late 1980s by starting a small clinic, Aarthi Clinic—named after his daughter—for his doctor wife in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu. The family launched a multispeciality hospital in 1995, followed by a foray into diagnostics in 2000 and the opening of its first centre in Chennai's Vadapalani in 2003. Today, Aarthi Scans is managed by a family-run team of radiologists: Prasanna Vignesh, Aarthi Prasanna, and Arunkumar Govindarajan. AI-led transformation and new service verticals Arunkumar, Govindarajan's son, is spearheading the company's technological transformation. From X-rays and CT scans to brain volumetric analysis, the company has adopted artificial intelligence (AI) across several operations. 'AI is making the job of radiologists easier. Globally too, India has adopted AI better than even some developed nations,' said Arunkumar. He added that the company is in the process of launching fitness diagnostics, a fast-growing segment in India. Private equity talks and future outlook Aarthi Scans came into the spotlight in 2022 when reports emerged that Tata Capital Growth Fund, a mid-market private equity fund, was in talks to acquire a minority stake in the company. 'We were in talks with Tata Capital during Covid. We were doing some extremely good business and wanted to rope in a minority investor. Finally, the valuation did not match,' Govindarajan said.

NHRC asks govt to ensure all elderly prisoners are covered by health insurance scheme
This is an AI- generated image used for representative purposes NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission has issued directions to the director general (prisons) of all states and Union Territories to ensure that all eligible prisoners of 70 years or above should be registered to be able to get the benefit of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana - the govt's health insurance scheme for senior citizens. The Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana is an initiative to provide free healthcare coverage to senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of their economic status. This scheme comes under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and provides annual health cover upto Rs 5 lakh. A bench of the NHRC presided by member Priyank Kanoongo has now directed that the jail authorities must facilitate all the eligible prisoners to enroll them on the portal of the scheme. A letter has been sent out to states on Thursday communicating the directions. An action taken report along with the number of prisoners linked with the scheme has been sought within four weeks. The directions follow a complaint that was placed before the bench where the issue of making the scheme accessible to the senior citizen prisoners was raised. Noting that this is a 'valid issue', the commission said that going by the spirit of the govt 's flagship health insurance scheme it is clear that it does not exclude anyone as long as the person qualifies the eligibility criteria of 70 years or above. To emphasise its point, the commission highlights the Supreme Court's assertion in a particular case to say that even the top court had emphasised providing for proper medical aid to inmates as a right under Article 21 of the Constitution. In the communication sent out to states it is cited that the Supreme Court held in that particular case that 'it is bounden duty of the state to look after health of the inmates in the jails since they cannot take treatment on their own and for the purpose of treatment, they are at the mercy of the hospital authorities. Proper medical aid to the inmates is a right available to them under Article 21 of the Constitution.
