Price Tag for New York Jets' Star Sauce Gardner Revealed originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Jets seemingly struck gold with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, when they selected two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner. The Jets picked up a pair of Pro Bowlers in the first round that season with Gardner and Jermaine Johnson II, as well as standout receiver Garrett Wilson.

Now, all three players are extension-eligible, as is running back Breece Hall. The Jets will have to hand out a few hefty checks to keep their stars in town longterm, and Gardner's price tag is going to be sky-high, and it keeps going up and up.
ESPN's Rich Cimini recently revealed that Gardner wants to remain a Jet, and has a price tag in mind.
"Gardner has professed his desire to stay with the Jets long-term," Cimini wrote this week. "The Texans' Derek Stingley Jr. raised the ceiling with his three-year, $90 million extension. Gardner is thought to be seeking at least that much."
The Jets seemingly want to get a deal done with Gardner, who was one of the best players in the NFL in his first two NFL seasons. Gardner had a down year in 2024, which may have the Jets a touch apprehensive to hand out a $30 million salary.

But Gardner has showcased all-world talent at cornerback. Gardner led the NFL in pass breakups in his rookie campaign, with 20. In 2024, Gardner had just one interception and nine pass breakups, and a career-low 49 tackles and one tackle for loss.
"Gardner was an All-Pro in each of his first two seasons, but his play tailed off last season, as it did for many of the Jets' defenders," Cimini wrote. "Nevertheless, he's still regarded as one of the top corners, an essential position in coach Aaron Glenn's man-heavy scheme."
Contracts in the NFL can tend to be a crapshoot, with injuries and scheme changes potentially leading to up-and-down play, but Gardner's talent is undeniable. It's not often you come across a player with that level of talent at corner, and the two seasons of elite play likely outweigh the risks of declined play.

Report: Clippers' James Harden Trending Towards Declining Player Option for 2025-26 Season

Report: Clippers' James Harden Trending Towards Declining Player Option for 2025-26 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before the Los Angeles Clippers can begin looking to improve their roster this offseason, they have a key player currently on their team whose contract situation needs to play out. Advertisement Star guard James Harden only has a player option for the 2025-26 season left on his current contract. That option is worth $36.35 million for next season and fans have been waiting to see if Harden will pick it up. Los Angeles Clippers Guard James HardenRon Chenoy-Imagn Images The answer is beginning to become more clear based on a recent report. According to Hoops Hype's Michael Scotto, Harden is "leaning towards" declining the option. Scotto added that Harden and the Clippers are still interested in keeping Harden in LA and a new deal would likely keep him with the team of the next two seasons to line up with the time remaining on Kawhi Leonard's contract. Harden is coming off of a season for the Clippers where he earned All-NBA Third Team honors. Advertisement He averaged 22.8 points per game, 8.7 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game during the regular season. Harden also put together a decent defensive season, which hasn't always been the case in his career. By declining his player option, he'll be looking to turn his 2024-25 performance into a bit of a pay bump and a longer commitment from the Clippers. If the Clippers are going to keep themselves hanging around the top of the Western Conference, they'll need to work out a deal to keep Harden around as there aren't many realistic options out there for them to acquire a player of his caliber. Rams spending $50.8M on players no longer on the team: Where does that rank in the NFL?

Les Snead and Sean McVay have done a remarkable job of managing the Los Angeles Rams' roster over the years, especially after remodeling the team in 2023 after a dreadful 2022 campaign. They're made their share of mistakes (see: Robinson, Allen) but at the same time, they've also built a foundation of young players who can sustain long-term success. Despite their cap-savvy moves, the Rams still have a fair amount of dead money on the books for 2025. Dead money is cap space allocated to players no longer on the team, either because they were cut, traded or retired. According to Over The Cap, the Rams have $50.82 million in dead money this year. Here's how it breaks down by player. Cooper Kupp: $22.26M (cut) Joe Noteboom: $10M (void year) Aaron Donald: $9.67M (retired) Jonah Jackson: $8.5M (traded) The Rams' $50.82 million in dead money is the eighth-most in the NFL and they're one of just 10 teams with more than $40 million. Two of the Rams' biggest rivals, the 49ers and Seahawks, are among the three teams with the most dead money in the league. The 49ers have an NFL-high $92.65 million this year, with the Eagles second ($71.99M) and the Seahawks third ($67.45M). The Bears have the least dead money in the NFL with only $4.05 million paid out this year. Follow Rams Wire on X, Facebook and Threads for more coverage!

Jets' young offensive line named their biggest strength entering 2025

Over the past few seasons, the Jets' front office and this new regime have made it known that they want to develop a high-caliber offensive line. And according to Pro Football Focus, they have done just that. Jets acquired young, talented linemen this offseason PFF's Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman recently named the Jets' 'young, impressive offensive line' their biggest strength. Advertisement The most talented player they acquired on the offensive line this offseason is rookie tackle Armand Membou, who they took at No. 7 overall. Membou was one of my favorite players in this past draft class, as he is a perfect fit for the Jets. Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images What made him stand out to me the most is his athleticism and production combo. He is able to get out in space on outside zones, tosses, while still being able to plant his foot on pass plays. At the right tackle position, he will slot in right away as the starter for years to come. A backup depth piece that could play a big role on the inside this season is Josh Myers, the former center of the Green Bay Packers. Advertisement I expect Myers to get a starting opportunity in a center-needy team, but he surprisingly took a backup-level contract with the Jets. This is a great get for the Jets, as they acquired a talented player with starting experience to sure up the middle if an injury occurs. Both of these moves could play big roles this season, as the Jets are notorious for going through injury problems. With Membou starting at tackle and Myers being a good backup, it is obvious that PFF made a good call with naming the line a strength. Offensive line strength isn't a one-year wonder The best part about this resurgence of offensive linemen for the Jets is that they are all young, and most of them are under contract long-term. Credit: Kevin R. / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Their tackles, Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, each have at least the next three seasons locked in with the team, maybe five for Membou with the option. Advertisement This core of offensive linemen will be there for years to come, with possibly a guard and a swing tackle being in the mix for next season. This Jets front office, with help from the past few seasons as well, has built a young and sustainably talented offensive line that could really blossom this season. Related Headlines
