Shawn Ashmore had a ghostly encounter at a Romanian hotel
The 45-year-old actor stars in the new horror movie 'It Feeds' – which centres on a young girl who insists that a malevolent entity is feeding on her – and he reflected on a ghostly encounter he had while working on a movie in the European country.
Shawn told The AU Review: "I do happen to be a believer. I've had two very strange, let's call them ghost stories.
"One of them was at a hotel in Romania. I was shooting a movie there and the hotel was 1000 per cent haunted. Everybody that was there on the crew, and there are a bunch of younger actors, we each had unexplainable events happen in different rooms.
"In my room, there was somebody walking around my bed every night. I deduced that it was probably like a housekeeper that was just doing their job. My pillows would fluff. The glasses would clank. I'd hear feet shuffling around my bed every single night. There was nowhere to go. I wanted to move rooms."
The 'X-Men' actor continued: "I remember one night we were all hanging out in someone's hotel room, having a few drinks and listening to music, and I said in passing, maybe after two weeks of us being there, I was like, 'Has anybody had any weird experiences in the hotel?' And it was like in a movie when the record scratches, like, everybody said yes. Everyone had a story.
"There's not enough time to explain all the stories, but they were all different and mine was actually quite light compared to some of the other experiences. So I've had strange experience that I can't explain. Maybe I'm not 100 per cent, but I'm also not a sceptic."
Shawn plays the father of the tormented girl in 'It Feeds' and spoke of the difficulty at having to act out extreme emotions in a limited timeframe.
He said: "In this film there are moments where I have to literally break down and sob and cry, and probably go through the worst grief a person can possibly go through.
"Can I do that in the 10 minutes they need me to? This is an independent film. We have a huge day. We have 10-15 minutes to nail this close up. Can I do that? Can I get there? It's scary."

Brooklyn Beckham renews vows without parents David and Victoria present
Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's vow renewal was a family affair — for the actress, at least. Peltz shared ceremony snaps via Instagram today, proving her loved ones showed up in full force for last week's ceremony. Her in-laws, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, however, were absent from the couple's milestone moment as they were enjoying a European getaway. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz renewed their wedding vows after three years of marriage. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram The couple secretly renewed their vows earlier this month, but only shared photos on Monday. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram 'this day meant so much to us,' the Lola star, 30, captioned her Instagram slideshow, which kicked off with a photo of her dad, Nelson Peltz, officiating the ceremony. The carousel concluded with a group photo, featuring Nicola's mum, Claudia Peltz, sister Brittany Peltz, as well as brothers Will Peltz, Bradley Peltz and more family members. The wedding was officiated by Nicola's billionaire father Nelson Peltz. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram The second-time bride said 'this day meant so much to us'. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram In another social media upload, which included only shots of herself and Brooklyn, Nicola gushed, 'In every lifetime.' Reps for Brooklyn, Nicola, Victoria and David did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment. Nicola and Brooklyn, 26, initially tied the knot in April 2022 in Florida. With her father Nelson and mother Claudia. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram Nicola's brothers and sister were also in attendance. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram News broke earlier this month that the couple had renewed their vows, with People labelling it an 'event about honouring the love and commitment they've built together over the years, and creating a memory that will stay with them forever.' Brooklyn opened up to the outlet about the 'beautiful' experience last week. He called the ceremony a 'really cute memory,' adding, 'To be honest, I could renew my vows every single day with her.' Although Brooklyn's parents, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, did not attend the ceremony, the Peltz gang was in full force. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram Nicola gushed that she'd pick Brooklyn 'in every lifetime'. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram 'I think the most important thing that someone can do is find that person that they're going to spend the rest of their life with,' Brooklyn continued. 'It definitely shapes you as a person. Yeah, it was really, really cute. It was really fun.' Brooklyn says he would renew his vows to Nicole every day if he could. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram The couple called their second wedding a 'really cute memory'. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram The photographer-turned-chef did not speak to his parents' absence, however. Although Brooklyn first sparked feud rumours with one of his siblings in April, reports surfaced the following month that he and Nicola were also at odds with his allegedly 'narcissistic' parents. Page Six hears he has since gone 'no contact' with them. Brooklyn said the event was a 'beautiful' experience. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram Nicola poses topless with her mum as she preps for the big day. Picture: nicolapeltzbeckham/Instagram As Brooklyn and Nicola distance themselves from the Beckhams, David and Victoria have put on a united front with their other sons — Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20 — while on vacation. While the Beckhams have yet to directly address the drama, Cruz recently sent tongues wagging with scathing social media messages. Victoria and David have done the same by noticeably only 'liking' Brooklyn's Instagram pictures without his wife. The former Spice Girls member is rumoured to have upstaged Nicola at the latter's wedding. A source told Page Six at the time that Victoria and her daughter-in-law 'can't stand each other and don't talk.' Em Rata on her hot girl summer in racy bikini shoot
Emily Ratajkowski has been soaking up the European sunshine on luxury yachts and posing up a storm in tiny bikinis that only just cover her modesty. The 34-year-old US model and author took to Instagram at the weekend to share a series of photos from her travels in Italy with loved ones, including her son Sly. The first photo in her post was sure to capture attention as the influencer showed off her figure in a barely-there leopard print bikini while standing on the edge of her villa's infinity pool that looked out to scenic, cliff-side views. In another photo, Rata wore a different tiny red and blue striped bikini paired with matching hot pants as she enjoyed a yacht day swimming and snorkelling. She continued her swimsuit parade with a selfie that showed off the front of her plunging leopard print bikini, which she accessorised with dainty gold chain necklaces, Gucci sunglasses and a baseball cap. Other images showed Rata enjoying a yacht cruise, feasting on seafood and diving into pretty blue waters. Friends and fans took to the comments section and hyped up the London-born, California-raised star. 'You're so hot,' one fan said. Another added: 'A gorgeous little piece of perfection.' 'These outstanding pictures go beyond the word beautiful, just mesmerising, especially the opening one of you Em with you're body posed like a life-like temple,' a third fan added. Em Rata stayed at a historic villa in Positano, situated on a beautiful hill of the Amalfi Coast. Credit: Supplied The photo dump comes shortly after Rata was spotted showing PDA with former lover and entrepreneur Orazio Rispo while swimming off the Amalfi Coast. While the model recently told Elle UK in June that 'straight men' are not a part of her inner circle, it appears the pair rekindled their romance after they were previously seen kissing in 2022. In other news, Rata is set to make her screenwriting debut for a new Apple TV+ series that explores female identity and early motherhood alongside Lena Dunham.

Adrian Barich: Why verge collection is a brilliant microcosm of life
I love 'bring out your dead' week, better known as verge collection. It's a brilliant microcosm of life. This week Jodie forced me to hoick a heap of really valuable stuff that clearly, very shortly, I will desperately need. She reckons I'm a hoarder but, realistically, it's inevitable that my doctor will tell me to start using that stationary bike again — and guess what? It'll be at someone else's house. And as for the old flat screen . . . I mean who throws out a television? My dear old dad (may he rest in peace) would be horrified. I'm the son of a European immigrant; everything has value in my world. Mattresses are the best. I'll admit that they can become redundant after 20 years or so, but do you think anyone wants them? No chance. So out they go on the verge, which is a very undignified look, I can tell you. I'm not sure how it works with the fossickers who come and check your trash pile. And I'm not having a go at them because when I was a kid, I loved going to the tip with my dad and bringing home more stuff than we dropped off. I remember saying to him 'Can you believe what people throw out, Dad?' Old 45 records, a flat footy: what treasures I found. But back to the modern-day fossickers. I get it — recycling is everyone's middle name nowadays — but how quickly they come. I walked inside this week after hauling out that old TV and before I got back in the house, a bloke was loading the old Samsung on his trailer. What happened next was funny, too. He knocked on my door and asked if I had the aerial. I found the external device which I thought was a thing of the past and handed it over. Not long after he was back, asking 'Barra, you wouldn't have the remote, would you?' 'Of course, my friend,' I said, 'and how bad are the Eagles going, eh?' just making light conversation. Incredibly, though, he wasn't finished. After a lap of the block, he was back: 'You wouldn't have any batteries, would you?' Brilliant. My daughter Madi reminded me later of how she had lost a bike on one of the 'bring out your dead' days many moons ago. She had her Kmart cruiser leaning against the front fence and clearly someone thought it was verge trash. Back in 2006, we were one of the first people in town to have a double pram. It wasn't cheap, but clearly worth every cent. Anyway, around verge collection day, it went missing after I left it out on the porch. However, as we live near a maternity hospital, I thought 'ah well, someone needed it more than us'. Later a neighbour said they thought they saw the family that took it, and they had about six small kids. Bulk waste collection is a great initiative by local councils. If I was a kid nowadays, I'd certainly be operating under the premise that one person's trash is another person's treasure. I can just see in my mind's eye what sort of sensational billycart I could build from the many wheels and chairs that get thrown away today. I'd have had the Rolls-Royce of hill trolleys. The kids these days also have the advantage of being able to google 'how to build a billycart' and I think Bunnings even has a workshop community to help you out. Yes, where I live, one man's unwanted rowing machine is another bloke's home gym. And how many of us have stuff stashed under our bed and in the shed that we swore black and blue we would use every day when we first saw it on television? Jodie had to hide the credit card when we first had kids because I would sit up doing a feed in the middle of the night and order all sorts of stuff that, in my sleep-deprived mind, I couldn't live without. Those infomercials were compelling. Yes, yes I do need a George Foreman Grill, what a great invention. ThighMaster? What a brilliant idea to build my legs up for for footy. Luckily, when I ordered the Encyclopaedia Britannica (just like my dad had), my credit card was overdrawn. Thank you, verge gods for taking all that stuff away and saving me the embarrassment of seeing it lying unused around the house. Verge collection is like Christmas for the fossickers, and it's our version of recycling. There's something truly Australian about watching a bloke in hi-vis load a designer lamp into his Corolla at 6am. And you haven't lived until you've seen someone climb over a mattress and a treadmill to rescue a working Dyson. Verge collection, where your old loved goods go to die — probably on Facebook Marketplace.
