Political class praises Indian military's action against Pak's 'napak' deeds
As the Indian Armed Forces pounded Pakistani posts and also shot down its fighter jets, retaliating to its act of aggression on Thursday night, the political class has welcomed the military's action, whole-heartedly.
'We are proud of our armed forces. Pakistan will be made to pay for its ugly war tactics,' is the common message from leaders across the political spectrum.
From the Congress to Samajwadi Party to Shiv Sena, all Opposition parties justified the Indian military's action and said that it is Pakistan which must de-escalate the tension.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, speaking to IANS said, "Pakistan has provoked us repeatedly, but our response is always balanced and controlled. We only respond to what they say, as they say, 'Nehle pe Dehla.' But the fact is, we are giving them 'Dehla on Dehla,' because if we consider our military strength, our economic power, the construction of our nation, and our unity, we are thousands of times stronger than them. But we are not escalating it thousands of times, we are only responding proportionately."
He also said, 'Pakistan was being stubborn, even after taking so many blows, but I think this is their last attempt.'
Samajwadi Party MP, Awadhesh Prasad said, "Within 48 hours, Pakistan's security forces will have no capability left to retaliate. Our brave Indian Army, with its glorious history, deserves all our respect and salute. We proudly honour our soldiers for their courage. The terrorist bases where terrorism originated will be completely uprooted by our forces. This will mark the end of terrorism and terror attacks once and for all."
He also appealed to the public to support and boost the morale of the armed forces.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Sanjay Raut said, "In a war situation, the government should receive support. The Indian military should receive full support. Because in the battlefield, it's not us or the Prime Minister, it's our Army, Air Force and Navy..."
RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said, "All 1.4 billion Indians take immense pride in the extraordinary bravery and valour of India's armed forces. If anyone looks at India with evil intentions or harms its innocent people, they will not be spared and will receive a strong response.'
'The world has seen India's military power and strength, and terrorism will not be tolerated,' he added.

New Delhi:The BJP on Monday accused the Congress of always deceiving and betraying the Other Backward Classes following the Karnataka government's decision to junk an earlier caste survey in favour of a fresh count. Union minister and BJP leader Bhupender Yadav asked for fixing accountability, noting that over Rs 165 crore of public money was spent in carrying out the now-dumped caste survey. Yadav claimed that the Congress has a history of betraying the OBC interests as he recalled that its governments at the Centre had ignored the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report on empowering the backward classes. The party also opposed the Mandal Commission recommendations, he said. He told reporters that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the decision for a new caste survey was not his government's but the Congress leadership's. Yadav questioned such an intervention of the party in the government's decision-making and compared it with the interference from Sonia Gandhi-headed National Advisory Council in the UPA government.

Census in J&K, Ladakh, Himachal, U'Khand in 2026, rest in 2027
New Delhi: Sixteen years after the last census in 2011, the government on Monday issued a notification for conducting India's 16th census which will include caste enumeration in 2027. The census will be carried out with a reference date of October 1, 2026 in the snow-bound areas like Ladakh and March 1, 2027 in the rest of the country, the notification said. "The reference date for the said census shall be 00.00 hours of the 1st day of March, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand," it said. In respect of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the reference date shall be 00:00 hours of the first day of October, 2026, it said. The massive exercise, which is expected to cost the government over Rs 13,000 crore to give population-related data from across the country, will be conducted by about 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors and around 1.3 lakh census functionaries armed with digital devices. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparation for the census with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, and other senior officials here on Sunday. In the upcoming census, caste enumeration will also be done, the first such exercise since Independence. The last comprehensive caste-based count was done by the Britishers between 1881 and 1931. Caste was excluded from all census operations conducted since Independence. The decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 30. "Considering all these circumstances, and to ensure that our social fabric does not come under political pressure, it has been decided that caste enumeration should be included in the main census instead of being conducted as a separate survey," an official statement had said. In 2010, then prime minister Manmohan Singh had assured the Lok Sabha that the matter of caste census would be considered in the cabinet. A group of ministers was formed to deliberate on this subject and majority of the political parties recommended conducting a caste census. However, the previous Congress-led government opted for a survey instead of a caste census, known as the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC).

Global aviation experts join India's probe into AI plane crash
New Delhi: A high-level team of international aviation investigators and Boeing representatives have arrived in Ahmedabad to support India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in examining the June 12 fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The tragic incident claimed 241 lives, including passengers and crew on board. The investigative delegation includes officials from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), as confirmed by multiple sources. Their involvement is in accordance with global civil aviation norms, particularly Annex 13 of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which mandates collaboration with the aircraft's country of manufacture and those with significant victim representation. Among the deceased were 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, one Canadian, and 181 Indian citizens, including 12 crew members. The AAIB initiated a formal inquiry on the day of the crash, dispatching a five-member 'Go Team' led by the Director General. This was later bolstered by forensic analysts, medical experts, and top officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), are also aiding the probe. A major development occurred on June 13 when the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), commonly known as a black box, was recovered. The data is expected to offer critical insights into the aircraft's final minutes. The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), which captures audio from inside the flight deck, has also been retrieved. Meanwhile, Boeing is coordinating with Indian authorities while deferring to the AAIB, as per international protocol. The US-based manufacturer will be joined by experts from GE Aerospace, the engine supplier for the aircraft, which has cancelled other engagements to prioritise the investigation in India. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary, P.K. Mishra, visited the crash site and the Civil Hospital where victims' mortal remains are being identified. He later chaired a high-level meeting with central and state officials, reviewing relief operations and reiterating the Centre's commitment to supporting the bereaved families. The PMO officials, Tarun Kapoor and Mangesh Ghildiyal, accompanied him. The investigation continued amid growing public scrutiny of Boeing and calls for a thorough examination of the causes behind the deadly crash.
