Demand for caste census was first raised by Mulayam Singh Yadav: SP MP Awadhesh Prasad

Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 16 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad on Monday said that former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav firstly raised the demand for the caste census and later it was given a push by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Prasad said that Akhilesh Yadav reiterated the demand in the 2022 UP Legislative Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He stated that caste census was included as one of the key promises in the manifesto of the party. 'The demand for a caste census was first raised by late Mulayam Singh Yadav. After him, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav continued this push. Be it the 2022 UP Assembly elections or the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, our party has consistently included caste census as a key promise in our manifesto--our manifesto is a sacred document for us', Awadhesh Prasad told ANI. Furthermore, Awadesh Prasad asserted that under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, the promises made by Samajwadi Party in its manifesto were fulfilled and highlighted that the party has repeatedly emphasised that once its government is formed in UP, caste census will be conducted. 'Under SP National President Akhilesh Yadav's leadership, the promises made in our 2012 manifesto were fulfilled. We've repeatedly emphasised that once our government is formed, we will conduct a caste census. Many castes granted rights under Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution are still deprived. Even after 75 years, the fundamental rights promised by Babasaheb have not been fully implemented', he said. On Monday, the central government notified the population census, the process of which will begin in March 2027. As per a gazette notification released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 'In exercise of the powers conferred by Section three of the Census Act 1948 and in suppression of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs dated March 26, 2018, the Central Government declared that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027, as per a circular released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.' The reference date for the census shall be March 1, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and the reference date for the Union Territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be October 1, 2026. On June 15, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparations for the upcoming Census during a meeting in New Delhi along with Union Home Secretary, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RG& CCI) and other senior officials. In Lucknow, emotions enrich tales of success, hard work for new UP Police recruits

The mood was joyous and the atmosphere festive for the newly recruited police personnel at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow's Vrindavan Yojana on Sunday. Tears of happiness, smiles of satisfaction and acknowledgement of gratitude punctuated the tales of hard work and perseverance of the diligent young men and women who realised their dreams of a better life on the path of duty, albeit with a khaki tinge and opened a new chapter of hope and transformation. From Awadhesh Prasad of Shravasti to Sukhdev Verma of Mahoba and Akhilesh Yadav of Amethi, thousands of young people came forward to receive their appointment letters — most of them the first in their families to join government service. This milestone event was not just about employment, it marked a societal shift towards empowerment, education, and dignity. Ashish Gautam, a Dalit youth from Deoria whose parents are daily wage labourers, said, 'I worked hard, and today, I've become a constable in UP Police. There's no room for discrimination now — only talent matters.' Rajkumar Yadav from Harirampur village in Deoria turned emotional as he recalled his late father, Ram Adhar Yadav. 'If my father were alive today, he would have been proud. People used to say one has to sell land to get a government job — but today, I've received this opportunity without spending a single rupee,' he said. 'No one in our family has ever had a government job. From form submission to selection, not a single rupee was spent. The process was completely transparent,' said Roshni from Hardaspur village in Firozabad district. Her father, Amir Singh, is a farmer, and her mother, Meera Devi, is a homemaker. Roshni has two brothers. Preeti Yadav from Marka village in Banda district said, 'It was like a festival at home when I shared the news.' She, too, is the first government job-holder in her family. Her father, Dinesh Yadav, works in the private sector, and her mother, Rajpati, is a homemaker. 'Earlier people used to say government jobs were impossible without money, but this myth has been shattered today,' she said, expressing gratitude to chief minister Yogi Adityanath for a corruption-free opportunity. The recruitment process began in December 2023 and concluded successfully despite numerous challenges like paper leaks. The recruitment process was completed under Rajeev Krishna as the director of the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) after the removal of Renuka Mishra following the question paper leak of the written exam held on February 17 and 18, 2024. The state government cancelled the written examination on February 24. The written examination was then successfully conducted in August 2024 under heightened security. The recruitment process was conducted using high-tech systems, including biometric verification and CCTV surveillance, to ensure complete transparency.

Political class praises Indian military's action against Pak's 'napak' deeds

As the Indian Armed Forces pounded Pakistani posts and also shot down its fighter jets, retaliating to its act of aggression on Thursday night, the political class has welcomed the military's action, whole-heartedly. 'We are proud of our armed forces. Pakistan will be made to pay for its ugly war tactics,' is the common message from leaders across the political spectrum. From the Congress to Samajwadi Party to Shiv Sena, all Opposition parties justified the Indian military's action and said that it is Pakistan which must de-escalate the tension. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, speaking to IANS said, "Pakistan has provoked us repeatedly, but our response is always balanced and controlled. We only respond to what they say, as they say, 'Nehle pe Dehla.' But the fact is, we are giving them 'Dehla on Dehla,' because if we consider our military strength, our economic power, the construction of our nation, and our unity, we are thousands of times stronger than them. But we are not escalating it thousands of times, we are only responding proportionately." He also said, 'Pakistan was being stubborn, even after taking so many blows, but I think this is their last attempt.' Samajwadi Party MP, Awadhesh Prasad said, "Within 48 hours, Pakistan's security forces will have no capability left to retaliate. Our brave Indian Army, with its glorious history, deserves all our respect and salute. We proudly honour our soldiers for their courage. The terrorist bases where terrorism originated will be completely uprooted by our forces. This will mark the end of terrorism and terror attacks once and for all." He also appealed to the public to support and boost the morale of the armed forces. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Sanjay Raut said, "In a war situation, the government should receive support. The Indian military should receive full support. Because in the battlefield, it's not us or the Prime Minister, it's our Army, Air Force and Navy..." RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said, "All 1.4 billion Indians take immense pride in the extraordinary bravery and valour of India's armed forces. If anyone looks at India with evil intentions or harms its innocent people, they will not be spared and will receive a strong response.' 'The world has seen India's military power and strength, and terrorism will not be tolerated,' he added.
