In Lucknow, emotions enrich tales of success, hard work for new UP Police recruits
The mood was joyous and the atmosphere festive for the newly recruited police personnel at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow's Vrindavan Yojana on Sunday.
Tears of happiness, smiles of satisfaction and acknowledgement of gratitude punctuated the tales of hard work and perseverance of the diligent young men and women who realised their dreams of a better life on the path of duty, albeit with a khaki tinge and opened a new chapter of hope and transformation.
From Awadhesh Prasad of Shravasti to Sukhdev Verma of Mahoba and Akhilesh Yadav of Amethi, thousands of young people came forward to receive their appointment letters — most of them the first in their families to join government service. This milestone event was not just about employment, it marked a societal shift towards empowerment, education, and dignity.
Ashish Gautam, a Dalit youth from Deoria whose parents are daily wage labourers, said, 'I worked hard, and today, I've become a constable in UP Police. There's no room for discrimination now — only talent matters.'
Rajkumar Yadav from Harirampur village in Deoria turned emotional as he recalled his late father, Ram Adhar Yadav.
'If my father were alive today, he would have been proud. People used to say one has to sell land to get a government job — but today, I've received this opportunity without spending a single rupee,' he said.
'No one in our family has ever had a government job. From form submission to selection, not a single rupee was spent. The process was completely transparent,' said Roshni from Hardaspur village in Firozabad district. Her father, Amir Singh, is a farmer, and her mother, Meera Devi, is a homemaker. Roshni has two brothers.
Preeti Yadav from Marka village in Banda district said, 'It was like a festival at home when I shared the news.'
She, too, is the first government job-holder in her family. Her father, Dinesh Yadav, works in the private sector, and her mother, Rajpati, is a homemaker.
'Earlier people used to say government jobs were impossible without money, but this myth has been shattered today,' she said, expressing gratitude to chief minister Yogi Adityanath for a corruption-free opportunity.
The recruitment process began in December 2023 and concluded successfully despite numerous challenges like paper leaks.
The recruitment process was completed under Rajeev Krishna as the director of the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) after the removal of Renuka Mishra following the question paper leak of the written exam held on February 17 and 18, 2024. The state government cancelled the written examination on February 24. The written examination was then successfully conducted in August 2024 under heightened security.
The recruitment process was conducted using high-tech systems, including biometric verification and CCTV surveillance, to ensure complete transparency.

Demand for caste census was first raised by Mulayam Singh Yadav: SP MP Awadhesh Prasad
Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 16 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad on Monday said that former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav firstly raised the demand for the caste census and later it was given a push by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Prasad said that Akhilesh Yadav reiterated the demand in the 2022 UP Legislative Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He stated that caste census was included as one of the key promises in the manifesto of the party. 'The demand for a caste census was first raised by late Mulayam Singh Yadav. After him, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav continued this push. Be it the 2022 UP Assembly elections or the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, our party has consistently included caste census as a key promise in our manifesto--our manifesto is a sacred document for us', Awadhesh Prasad told ANI. Furthermore, Awadesh Prasad asserted that under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, the promises made by Samajwadi Party in its manifesto were fulfilled and highlighted that the party has repeatedly emphasised that once its government is formed in UP, caste census will be conducted. 'Under SP National President Akhilesh Yadav's leadership, the promises made in our 2012 manifesto were fulfilled. We've repeatedly emphasised that once our government is formed, we will conduct a caste census. Many castes granted rights under Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution are still deprived. Even after 75 years, the fundamental rights promised by Babasaheb have not been fully implemented', he said. On Monday, the central government notified the population census, the process of which will begin in March 2027. As per a gazette notification released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 'In exercise of the powers conferred by Section three of the Census Act 1948 and in suppression of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs dated March 26, 2018, the Central Government declared that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027, as per a circular released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.' Ambedkar photo row: BJP attacks Lalu Prasad, demands apology
Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal and Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a scathing attack on RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday, accusing him of allegedly insulting Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Dilip Jaiswal demanded an apology from Lalu and his family, alleging that a photograph of Ambedkar was placed near the feet of the RJD chief during his 78th birthday celebration on June 11. 'Baba Saheb Ambedkar is a messiah of the Dalit community and the entire nation. Lalu Prasad Yadav has insulted him by placing his photo at his feet. The people of this country will never forgive such an act,' Jaiswal said while interacting with the media persons. Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh echoed the sentiment and escalated the demand for an apology. 'Dr. Ambedkar is revered as a god-like figure in India. What Lalu Prasad Yadav did in arrogance -- placing his photo near his feet -- is shocking. He should apologise by standing in the Ganga river,' Singh said. The controversy emerged from visuals that surfaced during Lalu's birthday event, where a photograph of Dr Ambedkar was seen placed near his feet. The BJP has taken strong objection to this, terming it an act of disrespect. Meanwhile, Giriraj Singh also hit back at Tejashwi Yadav, who had recently alleged nepotism in the Nitish Kumar government, claiming that the sons-in-law of leaders like Ram Vilas Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Ashok Choudhary were given plum positions in various commissions. 'The way Tejashwi Yadav is speaking, it's like a thief accusing someone of theft. He should introspect before making such allegations,' the Union Minister retorted. The RJD has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations. However, the incident has added a new dimension to the ongoing war of words between the BJP-led NDA and the RJD-led opposition, especially with the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon.

BJP Takes 'Charitra' Jibe At RJD Over Lalu Prasad's Viral Photo With Ambedkar's Portrait
Last Updated: The BJP and RJD sparred over a viral picture involving Lalu Prasad and Dr BR Ambedkar, accusing each other of insulting the Dalit icon. The Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal sparred over a viral video of Lalu Prasad concerning the portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar, trading accusations of disrespecting the Dalit icon. 'Yeh chitra nahi, RJD ka charitra hai (this is not a picture, but a character of RJD)," BJP leader Amit Malviya posted on X on Sunday, sharing the image of the incident. ये 'चित्र' नहीं, आरजेडी का 'चरित्र' है। — Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) June 15, 2025 The RJD hit back with a jibe at the BJP, alleging that the saffron party is 'forced to talk about social justice" only because of Lalu Prasad. This comes after a huge controversy erupted in Bihar, months ahead of the Assembly polls, in which a purported video, recorded during Lalu's 78th birthday celebrations, showed him sitting on a couch with his feet on a nearby sofa and a supporter enters the room carrying Ambedkar's portrait and places it near his feet before greeting him. The incident drew sharp criticism from the ruling BJP, which accused the Opposition party of insulting Ambedkar. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister demanded accountability from the RJD. Bihar State Commission for Scheduled Castes also issued a notice to the RJD chief for allegedly disrespecting Ambedkar and gave him 15 days to respond. It warned that failure to reply may lead to legal proceedings. Responding to the notice, Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, dubbed the move as politically motivated. 'There have been so many cases of atrocities against Dalits that the Commission has ignored. But since we oppose the BJP, we are being subjected to intimidatory tactics," he said.
