Port Colborne residents, have your say: City embarking on 10-year parks and recreation strategy
As part of the city's Parks and Recreation Month observance, Port Colborne has launched a new long-term initiative to shape community spaces and recreational programming. The city has started work on a parks and recreation strategic plan that will span from now until 2035. The plan aims to guide the future of Port Colborne's indoor and outdoor recreation, parks, sport amenities and related services. 'With a focus on enhancing quality of life for all residents, the city is committed to ensuring the plan reflects local values and priorities,' the city said in a media release. A central element of the planning process is public engagement. Opportunities for feedback will include open houses, pop-up events and other interactive events through November that will be announced in the coming weeks. Residents are invited to visit the city's public engagement booth at Port Colborne Farmers Market on Friday, running 7 a.m. to noon. City staff will gather feedback and answer questions. Pregnant moose struck and killed on Summit County highway, nonprofit says
PARK CITY, Utah () — A pregnant moose has reportedly been struck and killed on SR-224, according to a local nonprofit. According to (SPSW), a Utah-based nonprofit, the cow (female) moose was found on the side of SR-224 — the highway that runs from I-80 at Kimball Junction to Park City, all the way down to the Summit County border near Midway. 'She was dragged out of sight of the road and discarded like trash,' . 'Let's work together to change our optics and improve safety for all road users by implementing evidence-based solutions to the wildlife vehicle collision problem on this roadway.' Bear sighting in Stansbury Park sparks humor and discussion on social media Save People Save Wildlife was started by residents who were 'alarmed by the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions taking place along the gateway to Park City,' their website says. Volunteers work to track how many animals are killed and push for a wildlife crossing over the roadway. According to numbers compiled by SPSW volunteers, 48 large wildlife were struck and killed on SR-224 in 2024. One coyote, three moose, four elk and 40 deer were counted. SPSW says that this estimate should be multiplied by eight, as experts say 'not all animals die in the location they are struck.' So far, in 2025, seven large wildlife have been killed by vehicles on the road: five deer and two moose. done for the Utah Department of Transportation and Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) identified the road as the fifth-worst hotspot for animal-vehicle crashes in the state. Annual Utah Pride Parade held in downtown Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Tens of thousands of spectators lined the streets in downtown Salt Lake for the 35th Annual Utah Pride Parade on Sunday. Organizations from all across the stated participated in Sunday's parade, including ABC4. The Pride Parade, hosted by the Utah Pride Center, is the largest LGBTQ+ event in the state, drawing nearly 150,000 spectators and participants every year per the Pride Center. The theme this year is 'Radical Love'. Organizers say they chose this theme because they believe Utah is a state that can be polarizing sometimes. With state legislators passing laws directed their community like the pride flag ban, to the city stepping in to find a way to let the flag fly tall at city hall. They believe this year they are responding by celebrating love in a radical way. Chad Call, Executive Director of the Utah Pride Center told ABC4, 'Building ally-ship and creating ally-ship, it takes time.' He continued, 'I really believe this in my heart of hearts [that] It's really difficult to hate up close and when we get close to people, we see that people are just people, and that they're here to be loved. They want to love. They want to be loved. That, really, our queer community is no different from anyone else.' Sunday's parade was one of many events held in Salt Lake City this weekend as part of the pride celebration, including a two day long festival and a march from the Utah State Capitol to Washington Square Park on Saturday.
