Happy Gilmore 2 star Julie Bowen feared being replaced by 'younger woman'
The 55-year-old actress has reprised the role of Virginia Venit, Happy's love interest, in the long-awaited new movie - but Julie actually feared that she might've been replaced by a younger actress.
During an appearance on the Inside of You podcast, Julie shared: "I didn't think they'd bring me back at all.
"I mean, who am I supposed to be? He's got to have a younger woman in this one, Happy Gilmore 2."
Julie starred alongside Adam Sandler in the original Happy Gilmore movie, which premiered in 1996. But Julie wasn't confident that would be cast in the first film either.
The actress recalled: "I read and they were relieved. They were visibly relieved. I go, 'What's going on?' They're like, 'Yeah, some of these girls are just so aggressively sexy.' And I was like, 'That's a bad thing?'"
Julie previously revealed that she thought Sydney Sweeney was set to replace her in Happy Gilmore 2.
The actress thought someone like Sydney was perfectly suited to replace her in the much-anticipate new comedy movie.
Julie told The Hollywood Reporter: "I thought, 'Well I won't be in it'. And that was OK - it was like Virginia Venit, it's been 30 years, he's got a hottie. He's got some little bitty on the side, like a cart girl.
"As a matter of fact my children told me, before I was even told officially that there was a 'Happy Gilmore' sequel, my now 18-year-old said, 'Mom, I hear they're doing a sequel and he's with Sydney Sweeney as a cart girl.'"
Sydney, 27, was widely linked with a role in the new 'Happy Gilmore' movie - but Julie was pleasantly surprised to be offered a part in the sequel.
The actress - who stars alongside in the new film alongside the likes of Margaret Qualley, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller - said: "I went, I'm hurt and I so respect that move. Of course, why wouldn't you? So when I got the call that I was actually in it, I was like, 'Are you sure? Come on.'"

"A lot of these people who work at studios just want to be liked by the filmmakers and the actors and the writers, and they just want to feel as though they're part of the creative side of things. But at the same time, they're constantly having to do things for their own self-preservation." Seth has actually witnessed a "huge dynamic shift" during his time in Hollywood. He said: "I'm so used to being 20 years younger than the people that I'm reporting to that it only reaffirms this subservient dynamic. And I think now that I'm older, you start to view it much more of like, 'These are people I work with and together we have to make a good thing.' And they want it to be good, but they also don't want to get fired."

Mark Ruffalo's Hulk confirmed for Spider-Man 4
Mark Ruffalo will join Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 57-year-old actor will reprise his role of Bruce Banner / The Hulk in the upcoming Sony/Marvel movie sequel, alongside Tom as Spider Man. Michael Mando will also return to his role of the Scorpion, the villain from 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, along with Jon as vigilante the Punisher. He added: 'It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's going to feel like a breath of fresh air. I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together.' Zendaya will also be returning as MJ in Spider-Man 4, along with Jacob Batalon as Peter Parker's best friend Ned. Sadie Sink has joined the cast, but her character has not been revealed.

Gary Busey has pleaded guilty to groping a woman at a New Jersey horror film convention. The 81-year-old actor admitted that he deliberately touched a woman inappropriately whilst posing with fans as he pleaded guilty to criminal sexual misconduct at a virtual court appearance on Thursday. The incident occurred at the Monster-Mania Con in August 2022 as Busey was accused of groping several women who filed reports with the police. The star was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, one count of attempting criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree and one disorderly count of harassment. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will drop the remaining charges against Busey who faces between one to five years of probation and fines. He has also agreed not to contact the victim. Busey, who appeared distracted during the hearing and was scolded by judge Gwendolyn Blue for drinking from a soft drink can, will be sentenced on September 18. The actor's guilty plea comes after he initially claimed the woman had made up her accusation. Busey told TMZ in 2022: "None of that happened. "There were a partner, a camera lady, and me and two girls. It took less than 10 seconds, and then they left. Then, they made up this story that I assaulted them sexually - but I did not." It is not the first time that the Oscar-nominated actor has fallen foul of the law as he faced drug charges in 1995 following a near-fatal cocaine overdose. The star - who suffered permanent brain damage in a 1988 motorcycle accident - has previously been arrested on charges of spousal abuse and was also accused of sexual assault by a female employee when he took part in Celebrity Apprentice in 2011. Busey's son Luke previously recalled how the motorcycle accident completely changed his father's personality after he underwent brain surgery to recover from his serious injuries.
