Last Updated: Yuvika Chaudhary backs Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift demand, says working after becoming a mother isn't easy and actors deserve respect for their experience. Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit has stirred a debate surrounding fixed working hours for actors. Several celebrities have been talking about and giving their views on the topic, and now Yuvika Chaudhary, who is also a new mom, has reacted to the ongoing discussion and backed Deepika Padukone on the topic. In a conversation with Pinkvilla's Hindi Rush, Yuvika opened up about Deepika's demand and shared, 'Ek toh maa banna aasan nahi hai aur maa banne ke baad kaam karna toh bilkul bhi aasan nahi hai. Voh unki definitely demand hogi. Unko kaam se pyaar hai isiliye toh voh kaam kar rahe hai, kaam pe aa rahe hai vapis." (It is not easy to be a mother, and it is not easy at all to work after becoming a mother. That will definitely be her demand. She should get that time because itna bhi aapko ruthless nahi hona chahiye." (She should get that time and no one should be this ruthless.) 'And I'm sure it's not forever. It's a give and take. When you have done a certain amount of work, I think you should get that respect," Yuvika concluded. Bollywood's Ongoing Debate Over Work Hours For the unversed, the debate over work hours in Bollywood started after Deepika Padukone's departure from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming film Spirit. Centre to take fresh call on Udaipur Files after Delhi High Court questions cuts

The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered the Central government to re-evaluate Udaipur Files, a film linked to the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, after questioning whether the Centre can order edits and cuts under its revisional jurisdiction. The court instructed that the reassessment be completed by August 6, urging compliance with existing legal court's order came after the government stated it would withdraw a previous directive that had permitted the film's release with specific cuts. The court stressed the importance of adhering to the Centre's revisional jurisdiction under the Cinematograph Act, which governs the certification and release of films in the court proceedings, the Additional Solicitor General (ASG), appearing for the government, said they were withdrawing the order. 'We are withdrawing only because the format has been questioned,' the ASG stated. The Centre added that it would reconsider the matter and take an appropriate decision.'To say that we recommended cuts—where do you derive this power? Where is your authority to make a recommendation to the Board to revise? Is there any authority available to you?' the court earlier court examined the Central government's jurisdiction under the Cinematograph Act, noting that it may only issue general principles under Section 5(2) of the Cinematograph Act or declare a film unfit for certification. The limitations of the government's authority were a focal point of the court's scrutiny, with an emphasis on ensuring that any action taken remained within the bounds of the Act."The only authority available to you is that you can issue general principles under Section 5(2) and the other power is sec 6(2). You can only say no, this film is unfit to be certified after consideration," the bench Delhi High Court on Friday directed all parties to submit their views to the Centre by August 4, paving the way for a timely decision ahead of the film's scheduled release on August court instructed the revisional authorities to conclude their decision by Wednesday without any delays. Questioning the Centre's earlier directive of suggesting six cuts to the film, Senior Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, counsel for one of the accused in the case said, "The Central government cannot suggest cuts, modify dialogue, disclaimer, basically become film board like in this case. The Central government does not have the statutory power to become a master director of this film by saying 'remove certain dialog, remove certain disclaimers, use these words in the disclaimer, change the content of this, I'm going to make a few cuts and you release the film."- EndsMust Watch

Kerala Film Policy Conclave aims to tackle long-standing issues in Malayalam cinema post-Hema Committee revelations

A decisive step towards addressing long-pending issues in the Malayalam film industry will begin on Saturday (August 2, 2025) with the opening of the two-day Kerala Film Policy Conclave organised by the Kerala government to frame a comprehensive policy touching upon all aspects of the industry. It is in a way a result of the churn witnessed in the industry after the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a popular woman actor in 2017, which led to the formation of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) and the constitution of the Justice K. Hema Committee to study issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality in Malayalam film industry as per the WCC's demand. The Hema Committee report, which was published in 2024, revealed not just cases of sexual exploitation, but illegal bans, discrimination, wage disparity and in some cases, inhuman working conditions. In the aftermath of the Hema Committee report, the lack of a proper policy to address many of these issues was highlighted. The draft of the film policy, which was prepared after several rounds of meetings with the various stakeholders in the industry, will be presented at the conclave over the two days. The Department of Culture has lined up several panel discussions on various aspects of the policy, with experts from the field taking part. Although 17 other States have film policies, a good number of these do not go beyond incentives for film production. According to officials of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, the proposed policy for the Malayalam industry will go beyond this to consider all aspects related to film production. The conclave will also address the lack of formal recognition as an industry, due to which regulations are not in place to govern most of the activities in the Malayalam film industry. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conclave at a function to be held at Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall inside the Legislative Assembly complex in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday at 10 a.m. Actors Mohanlal and Suhasini Mani Ratnam will be the chief guests at the function to be presided over by Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian. The opening session will be on gender and inclusivity in the industry, with a focus on building equitable workplaces in the film industry and implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) in sets and studios. The discussions related to other aspects will address several issues, including the lack of contractual agreements, lack of a centralised body for regulatory oversight in the industry and barriers to entering film associations and unions due to high membership fees and favouritism. Single-window system for permits Panel discussions will also focus on creation of a single-window online system for filming permits to streamline bureaucratic processes, ethical marketing practices, measures to protect against cyber threats and formulating ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in filmmaking for the future. Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on Sunday (August 3), while Mr. Cherian will present a detailed report on the sessions on both days.
